With their last anthem, Climb High featuring Danny Byrd still resonating in our heads and speakers, Viper Recordings very own Brookes Brothers waste no time bringing the goods once again with their latest single, Good To Me featuring Majesty.

Majesty, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from East London, is fast becoming known as an act to watch for 2016. Majesty’s current single, Conversation feat. Scruffizer was playlisted on Channel AKA the same day as Good To Me was premiered on BBC 1Xtra.

Good To Me is all about bringing the funk and soul back in to the D&B party, a welcome reprise amongst the heavy set flavour of late. The focus is musical with a subtle liquid approach, mixed with their impeccable production skills; Good To Me rolls out with that perfect feel good vibe with the powerful yet gracious vocals of Majesty. Already boasting a first play from MistaJam on BBC 1Xtra and premiere from UKF, there can only be more goodness to come as the Brothers continue to show off their diversity and broad approach to global Drum & Bass.  

Drafted in for remixes duty is up-and-coming Viper Recordings exclusive artist, BMotion. There’s a calm approach to the remix with crates of funk, but when the drop kicks in its instantly clear to see how BMotion is swiftly carving a name as a force to be reckoned with. Thundering drums and shattering basslines all pull together to create carefully executed, well-coordinated chaos.

The multi-genre songwriter, emcee, host, and singer Youngman has been taking us on a vocal drum 'n' bass odyssey over recent releases. Finding new boundaries to push, like with 2017's three-stage “Spinning” release or “Sorry”, his cover of a UKG classic, he's seemingly always able to come with another surprise. So, what's he got for us this time?

Right from the opening notes of “Special”, Youngman establishes that we're about to bear witness to a different side to his style. While his last few tunes have shown off a laid-back RnB influence, this time, there's a bluesy intensity right from the off. It's powerfully emotionally-charged, almost blending into gospel, and it's a path Youngman hasn't quite taken us down before.

As Youngman's timbre-switching falsetto drops us into stripped-back rolling beats and layers of harmony, we're in summer anthem territory. With enough bass punch to hold a rave crowd on the floor, but with all the sunlit vibes you could ask for, a lot of different audiences are going to feel this. The vocals, matched with those gorgeous keys and horns, make this a luscious, luxurious listen.

With Drumsound & Bassline Smith on production, in one of their most liquid soul excursions, this release is infused with class and sophistication. As suited for the radio as the rave, it's another glimpse into Youngman's vocal drum 'n' bass evolution.

Every summer since 2016, Technique Recordings have been bringing us an epically ambitious album project, combining multiple flavours and sub-genres of drum 'n' bass into a perfect soundtrack for the season. And, just glancing down the tracklisting of 2019's instalment, with its blend of battle-hardened veterans and next-to-blow new generation artists, it's clear that we're in for yet another DnB heatwave from Drumsound & Bassline Smith's label.

For one thing, there's the strength in depth. Scene originators like Aquasky and Ellis Dee, the latter making a victorious return to drum 'n' bass after taking some time away, rub shoulders with newcomers like Technique Music Academy student Delphi. Technique regulars like Tantrum Desire and L Plus line up alongside label debutants like Chrizz0r, Mindloader, and MIAVO.

And then there's the music itself. We've already heard the glorious single “Forever” by Smooth, and that beautiful essence of musicality runs through the LP. Tapolsky & VovKING deliver their typically twisted take on summer melodies, we've got atmospheric euphoria from Muffler, and there's the dark-tinged jazz vibe of Gradual's team-up with Deuce & Charger.

But there's more. A Technique Summer album isn't just music for chilling with, it captures those high-energy festival and all-day rave moments too. Tracks like Drumsound & Bassline Smith's “Time to Let Go”, Zeal & Exile's “Seeing Shapes”, and NC-17's “True Grit” add a touch of toughness to the sunlit sounds.
