Spectrem – Supernova EP

Release Date: 11th August 2013

Label bosses Drumsound and Bassline Smith have done it again. On their mission to bring through the freshest D&B talent from all over the world, they've found another winner. This time it's a twenty-year old production prodigy from Perth, Western Australia who goes by the name of Spectrem.

For his debut Technique release, Spectrem has put together four tracks to show the multiple interlocking pieces that make up his style. First up, the title track, “Supernova”, combines crisp, clean production with sci-fi riffs and an off-kilter chord progression that reveals the musicality at the heart of this artist.

And that musicality comes to the fore with the next track, “Trust”, a collaboration with fellow-Ozzie Spillage. This is where Spectrem's soulful side comes out. Haunting strings and a laid-back vocal provide a  counterpoint to rolling drums to provide an essential dose of late-night liquid.

While you're in the mood for soul, Spectrem delivers another injection with “Mind's Eye”, although this time with a twist. An uplifting piano sequence and gentle ethereal pads swirl around the rhythm and bass to add a mid-nineties atmospheric vibe.

Just in case you thought that you'd heard everything this guy has to offer, he flips it again with the final track, “Catch Me if You Can”. With his now-trademark soulful flavour intact, Spectrem adds in some punch from Beckon on the mic before unleashing the grime with a dangerously raw drop.

Over these four tracks, Spectrem shows exactly what he can do. From pure soul and atmosphere to grit and toughness, he demonstrates that his moniker isn't false advertising: he's got the full spectrum covered. Now that this artist is signed to Technique, you know you'd better watch out.

Wunderkind Eptic has it all planned out – the upstart Belgian DJ returns on 6 May 6 with the release of his latest EP 'Mastermind'. The new EP will be released on powerhouse dubstep label Never Say Die Records and it features four filthy new tracks.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2011 Eptic (Michael Bella) has released three well-received EPs and has honed his skills through non-stop touring and by collaborating with and remixing established artists such as Habstrakt, SKisM, Excision and Datsik. He continues to play gigs around the world and will be touring Australia later this month.

'Mastermind' picks up where 'Like A Boss' left off (the 'Like A Boss' EP spent almost two months in the Top 10 of Beatport’s dubstep chart in 2012). The energetic first track 'Bust ‘em Out' (accompanied by an equally vibrant video) features a collaboration with Virus Syndicate. Dubstep stomper 'Mastermind' is classic Eptic and on the drum & bass 'Space Business' he branches out and shows his diversity. Lastly MRK1 turns up the heat on 'Bust ‘em Out' with his trap remix. The EP will be released worldwide on 6 May.

Just as summer finally dawns, Survival steps in with those perfect Dub vibes to compliment the glorious rays of sunshine and at the same time issues an absolute blinder of an E.P.

As the title suggests the “Dub Soldier E.P” takes everything back to those all-important, essential elements of killer drums combined with plenty of low-end frequency, and with no added unnecessary clutter Survival’s technical prowess is allowed to shine through across an all round more stripped back 5 track outing on this EP. All crafted with stunning results.

With a heavy helping of that all too often lost breathing space, all of the qualities that make this music so great are brought slap bang to the forefront, every track centers not just on technicality, but as it should be - on vibes, the EP encompasses five killer tracks all capable of destroying any dance floor.

Now it’s time for a twenty-year old DJ and producer from Perth, Western Australia called Ben Polson to step into the spotlight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Spectrum.

Spectrum took his first steps into music production at the age of fourteen, but it was hearing Shock One’s track “Polygon” a few years later that inspired him to take this hobby more seriously. Quickly graduating from Mixcraft to Ableton and buying his first set of CDJs, the young producer dedicated himself to the art of bass. He began DJing at as many parties as he could and putting the hours in in front of his DAW to hone his original sound.

Having established himself in the bass music scene of his home town as a DJ and as a producer of dubstep and D&B, he’s caught the discerning ears of Technique label bosses Drumsound and Bassline Smith. Now it’s time for Spectrum to take his place on the international stage.

With a style that encapsulates multiple influences into a style that’s all his own, Spectrem’s productions are set to blow up in raves and on airwaves worldwide. So, get to know. This

After another successful remix competition with some very good entries it was that time to create something new and exciting to go with the 'I Need You remix EP'. I push myself with each new creation and I'm excited about this one, a lot of production went into it including careful thought about instrument choice and sound design with over 120 channels of audio that I've painstakingly made to work as a finished track. Charlotte also got some input from sir Paul McCartney towards writing the lyrics!
