For yet another seminal release, Ignescent Recordings have proven their ability to deliver only the most unforgiving cuts. Whether it’s newcomers they’ve spotted across the huge expanse opened up by cyberspace, or for more renowned neuro pioneers, Ignescent have continued to add talent after talent to their ever-widening roster. And with that comes a stellar back catalogue, one littered with releases like the one forthcoming from production outfit Gydra. And alongside Gydra, a group who always offer up a formidable selection of cuts, Ignescent is set to continue their unadulterated takeover, one which has seen them rise to prominence against even the most intimidating heavyweights within the scene.

‘Tranquilizer’ and ‘Epoch’ present a double sided single which is sure to roll through club systems mercilessly, and first track ‘Tranquilizer’ is an atomic bomb to the aural synapses. A foreboding, cataclysmic introduction rolls you through guttural bass rhythms and a cutting groove which snaps with a formidable bite throughout each carefully layered segment. Bit by bit the record begins to pulse with power, channelling a bassline which grabs hold effortlessly and carries you alongside. The masterful production standards held by Gydra are presented from beginning to end; once again smacking you face first with the reason why Ignescent have pulled them into their groundbreaking roster. Gydra aren’t afraid to cause collateral damage with each one of their outputs, hitting harder and harder every time.

On the flipside, ‘Epoch’ throws itself out with grabbing claws, snapping violently at your synapses with every fresh stab of sonic. With each subsequent tide of clunking percussion and powerfully punching drums, Gydra go for the main sound arteries, showcasing their undeniable affliction for the darker worlds they take pride of place in. Having already detonated releases on the likes of definitive imprints Eatbrain, Renegade Hardware and Bad Taste, they’re here to make their mark on the independent which is currently slicing their way into the genre’s fabric. Together, their invasion is imminent and these two tracks from Gydra go on to demonstrate that fact. Ignescent and Gydra are about to filter their way throughout the genre’s consciousness.

It's summer time, It's hot out there... and DJ Patife is about to make it even HOTTER. Directly from the sun soaked beaches of his native Brazil, SUNANDBASS & V Recordings are proud to bring you DJ Patife Presents- Viva Brazil: SUNANDBASS Sessions.

DJ Patife has compiled new and exclusive music from some of the most exciting producers in Brazil including names such as L-Side, Alibi, Drumagick, Andrezz, Simplification & Translate, Drumagick, Level 2, David WS, Vangeliez, Critycal Dub & DJ Chap along with new music from himself and guest appearances from top class talent such as Command Strange, The Levels, ArpXP & MC Fats...

This project is an important one. Its represents Patife's re-found love for the game that was re-ignited by a trip to the SUNANDBASS festival. In his own words, DJ Patife tells how and why he felt so inspired.

'From 2009 to 2013, I was away from the industry due to marriage, kids and other personal stuff, but also I'd stepped away from the scene because at that time I wasn't so happy about the music that was out there. A lot of things was changing and it seemed like a natural time for me to take a break.

Then in 2014, I had my first SUNANDBASS experience, it was a game changer for me in so many ways! As a Drum & Bass lover, it was hard to believe that for a whole week an event took place in a paradise named San Teodoro in Sardinia (Italy). An event full of people who love this music from all around world, all alongside those legends who've been in this scene since the beginning.

As a person who loves to share, I thought about my boys in Brazil who have been following and supporting D&B all these years. I was trying to find a way for all of them, or at least a few of them to come to SUNANDBASS, and to see and feel what I was feeling.'

... and thats exactly what he did. Viva Brazil: SUNANDBASS Sessions is a beautifully compiled ode to the SUNANDBASS festival, but also Patife's love of Drum & Bass. This exciting project kicked off last month with 'The Vibe Is Coming EP' EP that was released on both digital and vinyl on SUNANDBASS's own label with a selection of tracks that can also be found here.

The tracks on this compilation are fresh and new but they also manage to capture the essence of the first time you went raving in the sun. This album is a labour of love for Patife, SUNANDBASS & V Recordings.

‘Give It Up’ combines liquid feeling vocals with groovy beats and hearty basslines. With a glistening, cinematic opening, the tune opens on a really gentle note, complemented perfectly by the gorgeous vocals of Cammie Robinson. The delicate nature of the tune draws you in before J Majik hits you in the face with a hearty dose of bass that is guaranteed to have you groovin’.

Individually, T-Phonic and Deadman have achieved some monumental musical feats. For example, T-Phonic's featured on a 200,000-selling compilation album, had airplay from the full spectrum of deejays from Friction to Fearne Cotton, and released on a raft of the biggest labels DnB has to offer. Equally, Deadman (aka Al Storm, Eat Rave, and several other aliases), has made a name for himself in hardcore, breaks, and even TV soundtracks when his music was used for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Basically, these two have pedigree, and the combination of the two is already pushing on to even greater heights.

This release opens with “Maniac”, which goes to places you might not be expecting from a Technique Recordings release. As old skool hip-hop vibes combine with dark strings and octave-switching basses in the intro, this track could go in any direction. The drop, however, delivers the closest thing to straight-up jump-up that Technique's given us so far. But, look beyond the head-nodding beats and the skank-out pulses of mid-range bass and there's more going on. The techy edge to some of the modulations plus those siren and rap vocal samples mean that this has more in common with nineties Urban Takeover than a lot of contemporary jump-up. What we're hearing is the classic sound of the sub-genre as it used to be, but given a 2017 makeover. In short, this is going to kill off raves across the spectrum.

There's another nod to the nineties in “Open Your Eyes”. The string stabs in the intro have an unmistakeable G-funk flavour, then when that break and thorax-disturbing jungle bass roll in, we could be forgiven for imagining this is a new re-lick of some forgotten 1995 cut, vinyl crackles and all. That's just the preamble though. As the drop strikes, with gorgeous velvet tendrils of bass pushing the tune onwards underneath the body-blow punches of kick and snare, with the ethereal fragile soul of the vocal clips, this becomes absolutely epic. Emotion and musicality meet black belt production skills, and people are going to get hurt.

If you didn't know already, you might have guessed that T-Phonic & Deadman are veterans in this just from the sound of their music. They aren't following the herd, they're twisting DnB into the shape that they want it, and the results are special. This duo have got a lot to show us and we should all be paying close attention.
