@djbone debuts five new tracks made exclusively for his Mixmag mix, going heavy on Detroit-style techno.

"For this mix, I actually did something really special. I’m premiering the remixes from my Subject Detroit compilation, and I’ve also created five new tracks specifically to play in this mix. There are a couple of other tracks from some amazingly talented artists in there as well. The focus is an uptempo, danceable, but super funky techno mix – not sleepy, not slow – just Detroit style. That’s what I love to do. It’s got to be funky, but it has to have that pace and danceability."

Rolando grew up in south west Detroit, a Hispanic district, he was heavily influenced by his cultural Latin rhythms and percussion. Inspired from an early age by his musician father, he pursued his own interest in music and became well known and respected within the community. It was later when he heard Jeff Mills in 1985 as "The Wizard" that he discovered the innovative sounds of Techno. 
Through a mutual friend he was introduced to Mike Banks and joined Underground Resistance in 1994.
In November 2004, Rolando left both Underground Resistance and his Los Hermanos project behind. 
2014 saw Rolando launch his own label R3 ( Roland Rocha Records) and has more or less exclusively released his own music on his label since. Rolando now a Dj for more than thirty–five years continues to work internationally as a Dj , producer and Remixer with an eclectic clientele such as Marcel Dettman, Kraftwerk, D’Julz, Ben Sims, Skudge, A Sagittariun. Rolando continues to hold his residency ( 2006 ) at Berlin club Berghain.

The Advent needs no introduction – he’s been one of the underground scene’s most ardent and long serving soldiers, simultaneously connecting techno with its b-boy electro roots while pushing the sound forward. In support of his ‘Elektronically Minded Part 2’ EP, made in collaboration with his son Zein Ferreira no less, he’s created an electro-slanted mix especially for us.

Jamie Anderson was born in London and raised in a musical environment, eventually relocating to Bristol in the mid 80’s, where he continued training in improvisation with jazz pianist Dave Buxton for several years. Whilst performing in local bands and working in a Bristol record shop during the early 1990s, he developed a deep love for electronic music and turntablism, fusing elements of acid house, funk, Latin, and Detroit techno into his craft.

In 1997, Anderson founded the label Artform, making his solo debut with the Prototype EP. In 2001, he released his first full-length album Blue Music on NRK, followed by the mix CD Nite:Life 013 and key tracks such as “Black Sun,” “Player Hater,” and “Rebel Sound.” His productions and remixes also appeared on respected labels including Rotation, Cocoon, Fossil Archive, 100% Pure, and Flash Recordings.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Jamie Anderson became a fixture on the global DJ circuit, performing at major international events and building a devoted following for his energetic DJ sets and live performances. He collaborated with fellow artists such as Jerome, Dave Angel, Jesse Rose, K. Alexi, Lee Pattison, and Owain K—releasing standout singles like “Body Jackin’” and “Cyclone,” and refining his signature groove-driven sound.

With his Artform Studio based in Berlin since 2014, Anderson continues to evolve his craft—collaborating with artists including Robert Owens, R.M.K., Daniel Haaksman, and Kapote on numerous high-quality studio productions. He remains active as a DJ, performing across Europe and around the globe.

Music has always been a vital part of my life.  I got into the electronic music scene about 15 years ago and a passion sparked inside me.  The trance and progressive sounds of the early 2000s surrounded me with joy, so I taught myself how to DJ on a pair of cheap vinyl turntables.  Fast forward 10+ years and my love for electronic music has developed even more.  When not working a 9-5 job, I spend my time picking apart and infusing all types of - deep, dark, tech/house and techno. The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
