If you know, you know: Mr. G is one of dance music’s true originals. From the early days in the legendary KCC crew and his influential work as half of The Advent, to decades of solo output under his own name, Colin McBean has never strayed from his roots. With releases on Rekids, Moods ‘n’ Grooves, Defected, and his own long-running Phoenix G imprint, his raw, bass-heavy electronic-tech-funk sound has moved floors and minds all over the world.

Now, for one of his rare mixtape appearances, we’re honored to share this special vinyl-only piece from his archive.

Recorded on two Technics 1210's and a Rane MP2015 mixer and mixed down to CD with added weight, the mix had been sleeping for years until Mr. G pressed play and surprised even himself. It’s meditative, deep, and packed with the personality you only get when the machines are running hot. It captures the raw energy, honesty, and unmistakable feel that only Mr. G can deliver: just pure groove, and even a cheeky cable cut halfway through that adds to the charm.

It’s not often he shares this side, so we’re grateful he let us dig it out. For us, it’s a perfect snapshot of where he comes from and what he still brings to the table today. A true original.

Today, we exclusively bring you the full live recording of @riva999’s set at our 100th UNFOLD.

14 hours deep into our biggest ever event, every nook and cranny of our building was busy playing host to bustling dancers from every corner of the planet. Just as the clock struck 06:00 and the earliest of arrivals began to show reluctant, tentative signs of tiring, up stepped our Resident RIVA into the booth to deliver the kind of set to power our dance floor deep into its second day. 

Treating the Steam Room with some of the sassiest sonics our sibling space has been lucky enough to behold, our Resident produced a masterclass in progressive house and trance for our centenary celebration. One you can now experience for yourself.

Jamie Anderson was born in London and raised in a musical environment, eventually relocating to Bristol in the mid 80’s, where he continued training in improvisation with jazz pianist Dave Buxton for several years. Whilst performing in local bands and working in a Bristol record shop during the early 1990s, he developed a deep love for electronic music and turntablism, fusing elements of acid house, funk, Latin, and Detroit techno into his craft.

In 1997, Anderson founded the label Artform, making his solo debut with the Prototype EP. In 2001, he released his first full-length album Blue Music on NRK, followed by the mix CD Nite:Life 013 and key tracks such as “Black Sun,” “Player Hater,” and “Rebel Sound.” His productions and remixes also appeared on respected labels including Rotation, Cocoon, Fossil Archive, 100% Pure, and Flash Recordings.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Jamie Anderson became a fixture on the global DJ circuit, performing at major international events and building a devoted following for his energetic DJ sets and live performances. He collaborated with fellow artists such as Jerome, Dave Angel, Jesse Rose, K. Alexi, Lee Pattison, and Owain K—releasing standout singles like “Body Jackin’” and “Cyclone,” and refining his signature groove-driven sound.

With his Artform Studio based in Berlin since 2014, Anderson continues to evolve his craft—collaborating with artists including Robert Owens, R.M.K., Daniel Haaksman, and Kapote on numerous high-quality studio productions. He remains active as a DJ, performing across Europe and around the globe.

SLAM  at the Arches 90's Techno Mix - Radio 6 Music

Scott McKay, better known as Fear-E, is a Glasgow-based DJ and producer specialising in raw, high-energy techno, electro and house. Shaped by the foundational sounds of Chicago, Detroit and the UK underground, his music channels the intensity and spirit of classic dance floors while pushing a fresh, modern edge. He also specialises in rave and hardcore music, taking heavy influence from the 90s UK rave scene and its uncompromising energy.

A longstanding figure in Scotland’s club scene, he’s played widely across the UK and continues to bring his sound to international stages. His sets are known for their driving energy and direct, floor- focused style.

As a producer, he’s released on respected labels including Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Dark Entries, Super Rhythm Trax and Dame-Music, while running his own imprints Posh End Music and Breakbeat Energy. His work has gained support from BBC Radio 1, 6 Music and Rinse FM, as well as artists like Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Marcel Dettmann and Leftfield, to name a few. Rooted in club culture and driven by authenticity, Fear-E continues to push a sound built for impact.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
