With this mix Heidi asks to please learn more about and consider donating to: I would love to highlight a new initiative called Synth Library NYC that I am helping to launch, together with the talented Brooklyn sound artist Cy X.  Synth Library NYC will open in May 2021 as a community education and music hub providing access to synthesizers, modular gear, recording equipment and other electronic musical instruments for people of all experience levels with priority access to BIPOC and those of marginalized genders.  Individuals will be able to ‘check-out’ an instrument and take it home for 3 weeks, just like one would borrow a book from the public library. Synth Library NYC also plans to have virtual and in-person workshops, synth meet ups, collaborative performances and other engagement activities to foster connection and help encourage those with less experience. We are grateful to be consulting with the founders of Fem Synth Lab in Los Angeles who have paved the way in this concept of community building, and Powrplnt, a network of Brooklyn artists dedicated to providing equal access to digital arts education, where we are currently residents. Kata Mercado developed strong interests in fine arts during her childhood and started her professional career in 2006. After moving to Europe, specifically Berlin, her sound took a radical change morphing into more acid and industrial beats, which were heard at the legendary Tresor. Then she focused exclusively on her own musical production developing an unique timbre. It is characterized by dark, fast and gritty sounds among fleeting glimpses of light and melody.

We are delighted to welcome Chapter records curator Anika Kunst. Hailing from spain, Anika has started her career 15 years ago and has broadened her definition of Techno since then. The search of developing a distinctive style led her to what it seems to be a natural step in a dj career, the introduction in the production scene.

In early 2014 she launches her vinyl imprint, facing the techno in all its forms, and teaming up with great artists such as Architectural as a remixer.

Currently, she is a resident of The Pharm party in Pacha Ibiza, has her own party in Macarena club, called Technológica, and has just joined the team of one of the best techno parties in Spain, Insert.

Thanks to a finely sorted selection, Anika comes out with this amazing tension-generating and floor-oriented mix. Enjoy and don’t forget to share it if you like it!

Venezuelan born Berlin based Hyperaktivist it's been shaking the scene in and outside Berlin with her characteristic energetic sets, oscillating between faster Techno and House with big influence in the 90's and old school tracks.

She started working for the development of club culture in her native Venezuela since an early age, where she co founded SOLO the first club dedicated exclusively to electronic music in her hometown.
After finishing a degree on Mass Media and journalism she relocated in Berlin where she did a diploma in sound engineering at the studios of the infamous Funk Haus and were she continues working for the
development of electronic music as a resident and organiser of Mess, Mindful Electronic Sonic Selections a forward thinking club night with a focus on women and transgender artist from diverse cultural backgrounds, dedicated to the celebration of diversity and supporting DIY club culture around the world happening at Ohm and her newest, Mala Junta events with a focus on old school faster/funky techno.

Since selected as one of the Shape Platform for innovative music artists in 2016 she's been touring around Europe playing both festivals and underground spaces such as: CTM in Berlin, Uh Fest in Budapest, Amsterdam Dance event, Insomnia in Norway, Off Sonar in Barcelona, Skaņu Mežs in Riga, Red Bull Music Festival in Moscow and Brutaż in Poland, Cxema in Kyev, Herrensauna in Berlin, Fast Forward in Copenhagen to name a few.

You can find her playing from Tresor’s closings sets to the Berlin’s most renewed clubs bringing her characteristic energy and commitment to the dance floors, merging genres with ease she takes influence both in her time spent in Berlin and South America.

Driven by strong emotions & moved by fast, hypnotic & disturbing sounds, her sets can begin with noisy Experimental/Industrial Techno and transform into early 90's Gabber and Hard-Trance. 140-180 bpm is definitely her comfort zone! 

Having already entered the cage of Tresor and played her favorite Endurance Rave in Copenhagen, the city of her current musical inspiration, she is soon having her debut in London and Prague!

Minneapolis has been a driving force in American techno, and delivered several artists to the world, but back home in the purple city, Centrific is regarded as one of the godfathers. Steve Seuling has been DJing throughout the Midwest since 1998, he's also been throwing some of Minneapolis’ best parties with various collaborators, under the name Intellephunk for the last 20 years. In 2018 he also added co-promoter of the Even Furthur festival to his list to an ever growing list of accomplishments. Centrific is considered one of the cornerstones of the Minneapolis dance music community, and he is just as likely to be seen dancing in front of the speakers, as he is behind the decks. 

As a DJ, Centrific can be called upon in many situations. Whether mixing darker warehouse techno at one of his Intellephunk parties, or spaced out funky jams at his open air Communion Sundays events, he lays down a hypnotic groove designed to lead the listener into the centrifical vortex…

She is known in the Philadelphia region and prefers to play along side local talent in the underground techno scene. Starting in 2017, she created and continues to host a techno event called The Labyrinth Movement. 

She is currently working on producing music and becoming a radio host for her own show featuring all female talent. Delivering you dark-seductive techno tracks, Miss Chloe strives to take you on a journey away from chaos through a labyrinth of sound & captivating energy.

Akanbi is heading a new generation of dedicated underground ravers in NYC. Raised in Lagos, Nigeria, with limited access to internet but a huge thirst for new music, Akanbi moved to NY in 2010 and immersed himself head on into every corner of dance music, as a serious dancer and eventually a DJ. He cultivated his own style that delivers whipcrack bangers, insistent percussion, pounding breaks & slow-burning experimental descents. In 2016 he started New York’s GROOVY GROOVY parties, a judgment-free atmosphere for wild dance floors, radical politics, and a much-needed dose of fresh young talent. Akanbi has quickly made an impression with incendiary sets at New York’s Mutual Dreaming & Fourth World, and internationally at Tresor & ://about blank in Berlin. In 2017, he was featured on the Fader mix series, and has been highlighted by Resident Advisor as a key performance at the New York DIY festival, Sustain-Release.

Iranian born Mozhgan has a love of dark and ghoulish sounds that always play out when she’s on the decks. In 2011, she started her own We Are Monsters party in San Francisco and it very much went against the grain, mostly thanks to her own definitive sets which draw on 80s synths and vintage hardware as well as exotic and ethnic rhythms, cold wave sounds and industrial textures. Since then she has established herself on the global circuit with sets at cult places like Burning Man and Panorama Bar.

She will join us at Dekmantel Festival later this summer and tastes us with what to expect with this new mix. It’s a rugged and low slung affair with jerking body music and frosted synths making for an alien vibe throughout. While often abstract and desolate, there are moments of sci-fi beauty and heady depths along the way that make this mix a cinematic experience from start to finish.

NYC-based singer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer Heidi Sabertooth has a serious love for hardware. Grit-laced drum loops, vintage acid and a tide of unruly sound clatters forth from her studio. She's been creating her unique brand of avant electronics since 2012 and she shares it with the world as a resident artist of the Lost Soul Enterprises collective and record label, through her Newtown Radio show Deep Dive and her Techno Support Group residency at Bossa Nova Civic Club. Her highly lauded live hardware performances and vinyl-heavy dj sets have cemented her own place among NYC’s techno community and beyond, sharing the stage with Ellen Allien, Broken English Club, Umwelt, Lucy, Drvg Cvltvre to name a few. She has releases on Lobster Theremin, Lost Soul Enterprises, Kraftjerkz, Serotonin, and Motor Records (Seattle), with forthcoming releases in 2019 on New York Haunted and Dusk & Haze. As a DJ and artist, Berlin-based Hayden Payne, known predominantly by his Phase Fatale alias, has developed into one of the leading names taking EBM and post punk-informed industrial techno into raw and exciting territory the last five years. With his father involved in the music scene in the ’80s, his fascination with new wave and industrial bands stems way back, with him gravitating to more dance floor sounds as he was introduced to the Wierd parties on the Lower East Side of New York as a teen. This week sees him newly signed on by the Ostgut Booking agency, in a move that seemed all but confirmed with Payne’s now regular residencies at Berghain and the release of his debut outing on Ostgut with ‘Reverse Fall’ last year. Payne’s monolithic and immolating sound have always upheld well against the backdrop of Berghain, but he’s quick to stress that his work fits beyond just one side of the club, with his influences in synth wave, new beat, electro, and italo lending themselves to Laboratory and Snax too. 

We caught up with Payne to discuss his label BITE, telling us how him and his partner Florian had started the label with aims of operating beyond the borders of common preconceptions in techno. In the space of a year they’ve released debuts from Vulkaniski and REKA, a record from Teste, who celebrated their first record in 25 years, and a long-time-coming collaborative record between Payne and close friend Silent Servant. Falling by sheer coincidence on Truancy Volume 242, this serendipitous addition to our series has Payne digging through a lot of his current favourites, creating a sonic whirlpool of selections that pulls in electro, industrial, EBM and techno in a genre blurring manner. At an hour and forty minutes there's a substantial amount of music to get stuck into.

NYC-based singer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer Heidi Sabertooth has a serious love for hardware. Grit-laced drum loops, vintage acid and a tide of unruly sound clatters forth from
her studio. She's been creating her unique brand of electronics since 2012, pushing out beautiful noise, from the delicate to the jarring. She is resident of NYC-based Lost Soul Enterprises, host on The Lot Radio and curator of Bossa Nova Civic Club’s Techno Support Group party. Her highly lauded live hardware performances and vinyl-heavy dj sets have cemented her own place among NYC’s techno community and beyond. She has music releases on Lobster Theremin, UFO Inc., New York Haunted, Lost Soul Enterprises, Kraftjerkz, Dusk & Haze, Blankstairs, Serotonin, Oramics, Fifteen.PM, Cultivated Sound and Motor Records (Seattle), with forthcoming releases on Jacktone and New York Trax.
