Dave Clarke - White Noise #796 (Techno) (2021.04.02)

BIO:

HYPERKARMA—the DJ alias of Minneapolis’s Jennifer Waege—knows from dark music. A regular at two of the Twin Cities’ most notable club nights, Dark Energy and Gothess, she began spinning in 2003: “Industrial, noise, ambient, goth, new wave, powernoise, stuff on the darker end of the spectrum,” she says, usually between bands for shows she promoted in Reno. When she moved back to the Twin Cities in 2014, she figured on DJing less, until receiving an invitation to play at a hot new Minneapolis party called Dark Energy—her debut was in 2016—where the DJs blended “that old school industrial sound” Hyperkarma loved with techno.

 

“It was an event that I was really digging,” she says. “The dark beacon of techno was calling my name and I didn’t even realize it was out there, you know? It was an immediate attraction: ‘Oh my god, you can play both of them together?!’”

 MIX NOTES:

For this mix, Hyperkarma has delved into straight-up techno. “Getting involved in the techno lifestyle—it was like jumping into the deep end of the pool. And I decided to swim. Nobody pushed me. I jumped into this willingly. This is the music that speaks to me. This music has changed me. Finding techno was like coming home to me.”

HoS 042: Stefan Goldmann

The 54th instalment in our FWP series arrives from Dublin based DJ and Producer, Mode_1. He has held residencies at Subject Dublin, District 8, Index and featured regularly at festivals such as Life Festival, Electric Picnic and Boxed Off. 

Having been resident at Subject for the past 6 years has seen him share the booth with some of the best in the industry, playing alongside the likes of  Ben Klock, Robert Hood, Dave Clarke and DVS1, even appearing on Ben Klocks infamous Photon event in Dublin.

At the start of 2018 he had one his tracks “OÍche” featured on Berghain resident Fiedel’s Double Mixpack EP named Appendix, which also had tracks  featured from Jay Clarke, Ron Albrecht, Noncompliant and Philippe Petit. 

In January 2019 he contributed his track “Twenty7”, alongside producers Tinfoil, Hybrasil and Moduse to commemorate the closure of the infamous District 8. 
March of that year saw the release of his debut E.P “Final Approach” on French label Knotweed. Later in the year his track “Return” featured on Fiedel’s new label Super Sound Tools. 

2020 has seen Mode_1 back on Knotweed with his EP “Mainframe”  and on Fiedel’s label FiedelTwo with ‘4x4 Series Pt1’ EP.  In May he was featured on Truncate’s ‘Missing’ remix compilation, which gained support from Rodhad, Slam and DVS1

July saw him release on esteemed label, Naked Lunch Records with his Pusher EP as well as his feature on the legendary Slam Radio.

A vinyl enthusiast, Decka's style of mixing is energetic and fast paced, yet tight and precise. He built up his a reputation as a producer, first making noise in 2015 on Darwin’s Berlin label SPE:C with the 'Begyndelsen’ Decka makes music that journeys through bare-bones techno, crafting hypnotic polyrhythmic patterns that look both to a tough, hypnotic sound and a sub-low pressure rooted in his home city, Bristol. 
Decka’s Unterwegs imprint that he runs with The Lady Machine translates to ‘on the move’ correlating with the label's vision to expand upon the idea that music is forever changing, evolving into new territories.
