Drumcode returns with its 6th installment of the internationally celebrated A-Sides series. Renowned for fostering a shared space between industry tastemakers and rising talent alike, the careful curation that goes into each volume is a fine example of why Beyer’s brand continues to go from strength to strength.

Techno titan Adam Beyer has grown Drumcode into a force to be reckoned with; the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking, functional techno and even after 20 years, Drumcode continues to find new boundaries to push, and ways to solidify its legacy as the world’s number one techno label. 

2017 is no exception, with Beyer’s imprint hosting it’s first stage at Tomorrowland, not to mention the expansion of the critically acclaimed Junction 2 where the Drumcode stage is the centrepiece and Adam plays the key role of festival director. The Drumcode phenomenon continues to grow each week, chiefly fuelled by Drumcode Radio, Adam’s radio show that’s broadcast in 57 countries via 86 stations and to a global audience of 16 million techno fans per week. 

The A-Sides series acts as a perfect vignette of Drumcode’s cutting-edge sound; functional yet inspired techno, all tracks tried and tested by Beyer himself. Vol. 6 continues this tradition with a collection of 16 multi-faceted cuts from a mixture of both emerging artists and experienced label friends. 

The heart-throbbing bass in Amelie Lens’ electrifying piece ‘In Silence’ sets the tone for the dark and dance-floor-ready energy that Vol.6 carries the whole way through. Other standouts include Mars Bill’s rough’n’ready ‘Mohave’. Pulsating and precise, ‘Mohave’ has highlighted many of Beyer’s sets recently as has Wehbba’s monster track ‘Fake’, which fans have been anticipating the release of all year. 

Label-favourites Dense & Pika also feature on ‘A-Sides’ Vol. 6 with their hard-hitting ‘Just a Beat’ and a huge track from Beyer himself who has joined forces with Enrico Sangiuliano to bring us their undeniably infectious ‘Preset Heaven’. 

With many more notable selections from the likes of Julian Jewell, Timmo, Tiger Stripes and Pig&Dan, A-Sides Vol. 6 is another impressive addition to the label’s prolific release roster and a testament to why Drumcode remains at the forefront of the electronic world.

Franz is a 25 year old Italian DJ and Music Producer, currently living in Berlin. He started studying musical theory at the age of four, but his passion for music means that he is constantly improving and learning new artistic skills.

Chopin, Mozart, Liszt and Bach were crucial for his artistic growth and he now draws inspiration from these classical musicians’ work. Playing music and composing tracks quickly became Franz’s religion, who, in time, has become appreciated for his style (deep / progressive house but also with vintage sounds) and for his skills behind the decks.

Now, he usually composes deep, tech house and techno tracks, but he also enjoys “vintage” and “electro” mixes such as remixing tracks by famous and emerging artists in an old school style.

In August, 2013 he released his first EP “K8” on the german label Trapez Ltd (Traum), that in two days reached #46 place on Beatport top 100. K8, the main track, has been played and supported by many artists and has also been included in the Trapez Ltd selection mixed by Pavel Petrov. Just a few months later, Franz released his second EP on Poesie Musik, a division of the famous label Get Physical Music. The main track, To survive has been played by several artists and even on BBC Radio 1 (UK).

This year, he has already released on Traum, Get Physical and Parquet as well as remixes for Fritz Kalkbrenner and Alle Farben, with a few more releases expected before the end of the year.

Aside from producing new tracks, Franz is building his reputation by playing in clubs both in Berlin and in the rest of Europe.

Hailing from the heart of Eastern Europe, Anii (real name Ania Iwinska) has made the long journey from Poland to London to master her skills in music production at the renowned music school, Point Blank. Ańii's love for the city has grown since graduating and she proudly calls London her home. 

Today, having found her heart and soul in the techno/house scene, Ańii demonstrates her passion of music through deep, dark techno and soulful deep house. She has previous releases on Stil Vor Talent, Polymath, Sincopat, Parquet and Making You Dance.

Rebūke returns to Drumcode with a trio of timeless dancefloor weapons.

The Irishman’s ‘Rattle’ was a standout of 2019, judged by DJ Mag as their no.22 top track of the year and is etched in the Drumcode discography as one of the most original releases to date. A valued part of Adam Beyer’s extended collective; he would have made his Drumcode event debut at WMC in Miami this March. Without a doubt, a sophomore EP was always on the cards.

‘Instatik’ kicks the work into gear, a rugged, reverb-heavy cut with industrial drums that pump like pistons and an undulating synth effect that makes you feel like you’re on a turbo-charged rollercoaster. ‘Livewire’ has the trademark Rebūke brain-scrambling stamp on it, a flurry of steelyard percussion bring the track to life, before a low-end melody swells to attention, rubbing shoulders deliciously with driving drumlines, for an uplifting second half. The title track ‘Obscurity’ is a dark slice of techno funk, filled with synapse-tickling arpeggios, before a rollicking groove takes hold and launches the track home at full-flight. Another thrilling and innovative release to add to the Rebūke canon.

“I think 2020 will go down in history as the craziest year of our lifetime. The future is still pretty unknown right now and things are drastically changing week to week. With that in mind, I felt ‘Obscurity’ would be a fitting title for my second Drumcode EP. It represents the state of being unknown, unclear or difficult to understand – feelings I’m sure most of us are going through right now.  Most the tracks aside from ‘Livewire’ were written in quarantine; ‘Livewire’ was written right before the virus shut the world down, in a hotel room in Lima, Peru in January. This EP is my favourite to date as I think it shows a different side to my musical palette, whilst still developing the signature sound heard in all my music.” - Rebūke

Legion IX embodies the synergy of new-age and original Techno by forming it into a multifaceted construct.
The Various Artist EP of Legion IX is the first impression of this project, which ascends out of the depths of Berlin’s underground scene. This Legion of modern age unites various participants, who are forearmed to incorporate their musical talent into the sonic vision of Legion XI.
The tri-national compilation represents 13 different perspectives of energetic techno and merges those into one unity.
The first composition on Legion IX’s Various Artist EP is a creation called ‘Fuck the System’ by Thomas P. Heckmann. The underground techno legend created a track with old school nuances by combining rhythmic rims and deep snares while clashing crashes add extra energy to it. The contribution of Legion IX resident SWHR called ‘Red Snow’ resembles a drama, which acquires its dark atmosphere through deep and distorted synth-pads and induces an emotional tension. For their creation ‘Morgul’ the next Legion IX resident VINYA joined forces with Rezystor to combine voluminous kicks and ringing cymbals for evoking a raucous and dark energy, which is underlined by sinister vocals. ‘Judgement’ by the Lyon- based DJ Oposition illustrates his artistic finesse through early variations of rhythm and it elicits a slamming warehouse vibe.
The swiss talent Unconformist produces powerful and shifting dynamics through the mechanic and rattling elements in his track ‘Uprising Terror’. In Basswell’s ‘Silver’ the dark pads accompanied by light rides and passive claps cause an unique tension. The french producer Mac Declos contributes the track ‘John Hoovy’, which convinces with tribal hinted beats and a drone break sound caused by sharp hats and siren-like cuts. Through unrelenting polyrhythms Draugr creates a heavy drum tool in his composition ‘Störtebeker’. The duo Sound of Suicide consisting of the artists SWHR and LNDO represents its raucous versatility through their work. Therefor used digital voice cuts function as a battle cry for the  ́Satanic Soldiers ́.
The expressive interpretation of the Parisian duo MOTH acquires its deep sound through the pervasive synths and the accentuating acid parts, which make it hard to ‘Don’t forget to go Home’. ‘Overdrive your Speakerz’ by YÅ is defined by playful pings and stabbing synths. Due to its straightforward drum set the track results into a pure and uncompromising rave statement. One of this year’s most uprising producers LULU finds  ́The lost Happiness ́ due to drum-roll cuts and

gated pads throughout the upbuilding, which turns out to an epic twist in the second half. The last legionnaire standing is the Berlin DJ Tilman Riddelt, who contributes ‘Arak’ as the final anthem to the Various Artists EP, which contains playful trance parts.

Lenske is delighted to welcome back Ahl Iver for his second EP on the label, containing four cuts of percussive heat. Belgian DJ/Producer Ahl Iver returns to Amelie Lens’ Lenske for his next EP. Following on from 2019’s ‘Haunted Patterns’, ‘Down The Void EP’ begins 2021 as the fifteenth release on the highly regarded Belgian techno label.
Starting off strong is the robust ‘Danger Close’. An authoritative kick drum sets the pace and is quickly accompanied by a number of jolting rave elements. High pitched echoing synths ring out and strident keys
punch their way through the chaos. A modern techno-rave hybrid that blends the best of both worlds. Continuing with force is ‘Lights Out’, a galvanizing rave cut layered under scattered detuned vocal samples, thundering bass and a pandemonium of drums. Ethereal keys bring a joyous emotion and balance to the track. ‘Down The Void’ is up next on the record, with a squelchy baseline and razor sharp hi-hats providing the foundation. An arpeggiated synth injects cunning hints of trance while still retaining a commanding techno ferocity.
Rounding off the record is ‘Say Goodbye’, led by a thumping kick and snare drum combination that pushes the tempo. A scattering of synth sounds build together before the lead takes hold. Once into the flow of the beat, a jolting breakdown seizes our attention. A mischievous vocal sample lingers over stabbing keys before cutting back into rhythm until close.
