TM8 Q: How do you go about putting a mix together?
A: "I start creating my sets with an attitude, often visualised in similar colors and translated to feelings, that I want to explore based on the music Ive recently found. This attitude can be found in tracks that differ in their genre, but share similarities in texture and design.  A lot of tracks have elements from multiple genres, where the track can seem like minimal techno because of its arrangement, but the kick is mixed in a way that resembles tribe or gabber. I always struggle with choosing a genre for a set, but I find that I can still create a continuous story by taking an element from the current track and gluing it together with the next song through a similar element in the upcoming song. But in the end the most important way for me to work is intuitively, always being emotionally present and aware if the upcoming track is leading away or towards the core attitude of the set."

Oslo-based DJ and producer IRA delivers a psychedelic, warped-out mix brimming with other-worldly melodies, minimalistic harmonics and industrial soundscapes. Having started out a few years ago in the Oslo rave scene via Enter Tribe, she has since co-founded the club concept Sirena alongside artists Vilde Wahl and Samuel Feste. As a talented producer, IRA has released her dark and dreamy productions on labels like MUSA, Global Pace and In Orbit. We're so excited to add her to our own label later this year.

MIDDANGEARD II 
Social media have changed the way musical subcultures develop and spread, often limiting their growth and authenticity. Algorithms favor viral content, which promotes mainstream genres and reduces the visibility of niche music. As artists seek visibility, they often feel pressured to conform to trends, sacrificing authenticity in the process. Musical subcultures, which were once a form of resistance or social commentary, are often commodified and reduced to aesthetic trends, losing their original meaning. Algorithms create "bubbles" that limit exposure to new genres or movements, making it harder for subcultures to evolve or connect with others. The rapid consumption of music through social media also makes it harder for subcultures to develop organically. What once took time and physical spaces to grow is now constrained by the speed of online trends. Subcultures are sometimes reduced to superficial modes of consumption, losing their deeper cultural or political significance.
Finally, the sheer volume of content online makes it difficult for smaller subcultures to stand out, leaving them overshadowed by larger, more popular trends. While social media offer new opportunities for music discovery, they also limit the ability of subcultures to maintain their identity and evolve naturally.
