French DJ and producer MZA shares a rippling mix with us, loaded with silky trance and pulsing techno. MZA neatly balances brutal and beautiful textures throughout her DJ sets and productions. Her back catalogue includes releases on labels like @taapionrecords, @maisoncloserecords, @coupprojekt and @sindextechno, spotlighting her signature sound and consistency as a producer. Based in Paris, MZA has played the local circuit, including Rex Club, La Machine du Moulin Rouge, Glazart and many more, and recently debuted in Berlin with the @ismusberlin crew. Podcast - Keep Us Acid

Introducing to you "U-Topic Guests": a series of mixes from national and international artists, who's art we admired and want to share it to the world.

Our first local guest mix for the podcast 12 is Venus Melissa.

Venus Melissa is a visual artist, curator, and DJ. She has a multidisciplinary proposal that seeks new expressions and finds a medium in music. Her staging provides a sound journey between genres, in which house, electro, Italo funk, techno and trance predominate.

She's co-founder of the Vimana party, a collective that promotes safe spaces for women and dissidence within electronic music. She's also a member of the T4T collective, a movement that seeks the inclusion of trans people in the local artistic scene, being Melissa a key piece in the underground queer scene of the city of Asunción.

In 2022 the artist had several presentations at various events and clubs in the capital of Paraguay, including Tango Asunción, Café Salazar, Palo Santo, La Serafina, and Peach Club, in the latter being in charge of curating and organizing line ups.

MZA / Exclusive Mix for Electronic Subculture

Here’s my set from RSO, recorded on the morning of October 12, 2024, during the closing of the Summe stage.

This set was built like a story — weaving textures, tension, and release, always with the after-hours energy of RSO in mind. I like to blur the lines between techno, trance, and emotional storytelling, creating a journey that feels both physical and internal.

For me, a set only makes sense when experienced in full — every track has its place, and the narrative unfolds from beginning to end. Techno and electronic music are my life; they are where I put all my passion, joy, and obsession. This mix reflects that devotion: intense, dreamy, and deeply personal.

Artiste phare de la scène parisienne, la DJ et productrice MZA performe autant en DJ set
qu’en live. Faisant des ravages dans les clubs de tout le pays(Rex Club, Virage, Cabaret Sau-
vage, La Machine du Moulin Rouge, Macadam, Le Sucre,
Le Bikini, Slalom...) elle délivre son univers fast, bouncy et trippant, mélangeant influences
techno et styles modernes.

Après des EPs sur Maison Close et Extra Energy, 2024 est l’année d’un nouveau tournant où MZA lance sa série de singles Z Series, qui met en avant les nombreux genres et collaborations qu’elle approfondit. A la manière d’un label, les singles auront un lien et respecteront son univers musical, imagé et hors des normes. Elle collabore aussi avec de
nombreux labels européens tels que Hotmeal Records ou MUSA et sillonne les clubs européens (Rote Sonne à Munich, UEG à Hambourg, RSO à Berlin, Module à Copenhague ou Lofi Amsterdam..). Engagée dans le milieu queer, son titre«Your love» sort sur la compilation Bar-bi(e)turix au milieu de 20 artistes femmes dans la musique électronique (Chloé, Olympe4000, Belaria, Minuit Machine...).

Elle participe aussi activement à la transmission de son savoir-faire dans des formations Ableton en non-mixité, avec des collectifs comme @_connecther.

UK-born, Amsterdam-based writer and DJ LNR has recorded a FLINTA-focused mix for us. Inspired by the collective dialogue between her journalistic research surrounding dance music history and her obsession with collecting old-school vinyl, the multi-disciplined artist translates pen to wax by creating journeys centred around fluid iterations of sound system culture. Exploring refractions of music in the hardcore and psychedelic spectrums and integrating technological rawness with dissociative coils, LNR has played alongside 90s legends like 69db from Spiral Tribe, Eat Static, Felix K, μ-Ziq, and Scion, and has DJ'd in Amsterdam's Garage 
Noord and for Belgium's free party collective, V23. 

In this mix, however, LNR has ditched her usual vinyl-only format to highlight a talented array of FLINTA artists, including music from the feminist freetekno collective Witchcraft rec, and producers Nkisi, Azu Tiwaline, Saskia, DJ Sofa, c00, gi, Laura STZ, Freeman 713, Kan10, DJ Spice, and Liza N Eliaz. The latter was the earliest trans woman in hardcore, according to LNR's research. "She co-produced the first ever Bonzai record before Jones & Stephenson's 'The First Rebirth' came out and made the label go crazy," LNR told us. "Sadly she died in 2001 but it felt important to me to include her music in this mix. Shout out to other old-school female techno, hardcore, and jungle legends who didn't make the mix this time: Ixindamix, Laura Grabb, Miss Djax, Kemistry & Storm, and DJ Rap."

Composer, producer, and DJ dragongirl has recorded a mix for us featuring some of her own tracks too. Having released her critically acclaimed debut album 'hot blue' on the Norwegian label Sheep Chase Records in 2023, dragongirl has since brought her vibrant sound to some of Northern Europe's most well-known clubs and festivals including Denmark's Den Anden Side, Berlin's OST and OXI, and Kaleido Festival. Her sets blend trance, techno and happy hardcore with influences from Eurodance, gabber and EDM, inviting her audience on a playful and unexpected adventure. And that's exactly what dragongirl mirrors in this week's mix.

Uruguayan DJ and producer YOZY supplies a shape-shifting mix for us, oscillating between experimental and broken rhythms to 4/4 techno and irresistible trance classics. The Barcelona-based artist also includes tracks from her upcoming album, dropping June 5th. Having released several contributions to VAs on Clan Destine Records, low income $quad, and Last Love Records, they have also delivered music to Human Club; a label based in Barcelona's Razzmatazz, where they are a resident DJ and run their own party CALIENTE. Additionally, YOZY has played for parties and festivals like Boiler Room x Primavera Sound, Raiders, Suicide Club, Voight-Kampff, Latineo, and many more. Plus, their monthly radio show on HKCR called 'Messages from the stars' has recently transformed into an IRL ambient showcase.

Having established their profile within the Barcelona scene by playing parties like Latineo, MUSA, Deprerreo, and No Tags, puxo has since released an ambient EP as a parallel exploration to their artistic output, revealing a more introspective side of their sound.

We are a trio in our own way, always looking at the sound system, talking about our favourite artists and productions. Bristol-based duo Field Case share a winding mix for us, snaking through slow-burning rhythms, meditative beats, and mystical soundscapes, exploring the deepest and most cerebral shades of techno. DJs Petrachore and Ohana are behind Field Case and began the project after meeting by chance in early 2023. They then formed Bristol’s first-ever queer community radio station, Transgression.fm, to showcase artists in the city’s creative realm. These days, Field Case are residents of Bristol events RTN and Queerky, where they continue to meld their differing musical backgrounds and sonic palettes. Their journey together has defined their sound, character and mystery, and we’re delighted to share a taster of that on this week’s mix.

Live is what they are whether in or out of the studio, they are spontaneous. Improvisation with hardware is the key element of their performance and is impossible to replicate.
