Adam Ten and Rafael land on DFTD with the modern club heater ‘Call 911’. The Beatport #1 also attracted much attention for Rafael, with a recent US and Latin America tour cementing him as a heavy hitter internationally. Now collaborating once more, this time on London’s DFTD, the pair unveil ‘Call 911’, a techy, frenetic, and powerful club track that is sure to make an impact.

This track is one of my favorites that I’ve made recently because it’s so different from what I usually do. I made it live on Twitch and just kind of went with the flow, not overthinking too much. The concept was inspired by Gesaffelstein’s set at Coachella. I caught about 30 minutes of it and loved how he layered weird, huge sounds over deep, fat low ends. I kept that in mind while making it and made it my own.

I really wanted the track to progressively get more and more intense as it goes on. That helped create anticipation and curiosity, so the listener doesn’t get bored with the repetitive low end and lead. The track is fairly simple, with around four major elements, but the way I placed them makes it feel like there’s way more going on than there actually is.

The vocals are from a genre called Brazilian phonk. I ended up choosing them because I felt they matched the other elements well and helped the overall vibe of the track hit that next level of intensity I was aiming for. I was fine using Portuguese vocals because, when I play it out, I’ve noticed that people who don’t speak the language tune more into the major elements and movement rather than the lyrics themselves.

This one does really well in my warehouse/underground sets and I’m excited to be back baby
