Following his collaboration with Nicolas Jaar's Clown & Sunset label, Cruz has self-produced and self-recorded this landmark album. 

‘Prender el Alma’ is a new strain of Latin American music Cruz calls ‘Andes Step’. Influenced by new digital technology, blended with local influence, Cruz builds his tracks layer by layer, instrument by instrument, drum by drum, exploring local indigenous and Afro-cosmologies in a modern setting. 

From atmospheric opener ‘Sanacion’, the 10-track album journeys through short, sharp acoustic guitar riffs on ‘Puente Roto’ and the percussive ‘La Mirada’, to the electronic ‘Prender el Alma’. Down-beat ‘Equinoccio’ gets a vocal kick from Ecuadorian singer Huaira, ending with the blissful, lo-fi ‘Cocha Runa’ featuring Tanya Sanchez. ‘Prender el Alma’ ebbs and flows through a range of production of local sounds, feeling like a digital awakening.

This digital revolution is spreading through Latin America like wildfire, and nowhere is this more exciting than in the heart of the continent's bustling music scene, where Nicola Cruz is leading the way. 

Led by forward-thinking young producers and musicians, Ecuador is beginning to experience its own digital folklore revolution.  A new crop of producers and musicians are using homeland traditions and rhythms to build on a vibrant history of visual and sonic art, catapulting them into the 21st century.

ZZK are at the forefront of this burgeoning music scene. With artists such as Frikstailers, La Yegros, El Remolon and Chancha Via Circuito, they are defining a new and exciting Latin American music culture.

After the release of Amansara, the third LP from Argentinian neo-folklore producer and one of the leaders of the new Latin electronic sound, Chancha Via Circuito returns with Amansara Remixed, featuring brand new and inventive re-imaginings of the tracks from the albums artists hand selected by Chancha from Latin America and beyond. Artists include Frikstailers, Thornato, Tremor, Maga Bo, King Coya, Psilosamples, El Búho, El Remolón Nicola Cruz, Rafael Aragon, Blocktreat, Prisma, Reptilian Commander, Barrio Lindo, Sidirum and Chancha himself, under his previous alias "Universildo".  The result of this selection is a powerful and experimental album where the unique sounds of Chancha dare to travel to new latitudes, catalyzed by the wide ranging vision of the remixers.

The album also features the special participation of Acampante, an Argentiniam multifaceted artist, who was encouraged to remix the original artwork ( Paula Duró's "Madadayo" ) in a fresh and fun way.

The cult of Multi Culti expands it’s horizons to include Nicola Cruz, backed by remixes from Xanga and L_cio.

Nicola Cruz’s music beautifully invokes the landscapes and rituals of his homeland, Ecuador, a country that contains both the majestic Andes mountains and the mighty Amazon jungle.  His sound is an amalgamation of folkloric traditions and ancestral mythologies, crafted with fine detail and slick production techniques. 

In 2012 Nicola collaborated with Nicolas Jaar on Clown & Sunset, and has since worked towards his debut album on ZZK Records.
Between past and present, traditional and modern, Nicola fits into a growing scene of South American artists exploring local indigenous and Afro-cosmologies, among fellow artists and ZZK label-mates like Chancha Via Circuito. 

For his debut on Multi Culti, Nicola has created Mantis, and it is arguably his most accomplished club record to date, a 105bpm tribal chugger that flexes shamanic authority over hearts and minds. Invocacion goes even deeper into the new, new age, presenting traditional instrumentation and mysticism in a modern framework. Australia’s Xanga joins in with a super lively, rhythmic remix that is as joyful as it is deep. Finally, Brazil’s L_cio presents a version that strips things down for club play, upping the tempo while keeping the characteristic flavour of the flute.

"Moodfamily’s favourite four-piece returns home after many journeys.
Impatient, as we are, we had to hear their stories. Skillfully combining influences, sounds and experiences from east and west, they translated their stories to a new EP, oozing with drama, melancholy and determination.

The EP describes itself as the soundtrack for an adventure to mysterious outskirts around the globe, starting with 'Whale Parade'. This prelude brings you to a hidden land after wandering through forests for many months. Guitar, piano and percussion gently move in and carry you away. By the second track, All Day I Zama, a slow beat dictated by a banket of percussion evolves to a vigorous and groovy track with moaning vocals as the main theme.

In title track Gold Town, you will settle yourself in a covered wagon, heading for dodgy settlements on a misty mountain range, accompanied by a grieving trumpet.

As the wagon slows to a crawl, Ghajar emerges, a downtempo emotion-filled song, where the piano and a scorching synth interchange melodies and tales."

Populous is Andrea Mangia, a producer hailing from Lecce, a small city on the heel of Italy's boot. In 2003, he made his first jaunt into the music world with the album Quipo (via Morr Music). In 2005 he released Queue For Love, influenced by his reggae/hip-hop-infused surroundings (Lecce is known as Italy's Jamaica, as reggae and dancehall are extremely popular there) and in 2008 he released Drawn in Basic. Both albums were widely received by international critics, earning him a spot on the global music map. He became known for the way he seamlessly blends digital sounds with the analog warmth of soul/hip-hop/whatever else he's influenced by at the time.

Azulejos, his forthcoming release, has a South American tinge to it (and is even partly in Spanish). He moved to Lisbon, Portugal to start work on the album bringing with him only a laptop, a small MIDI keyboard, and a microphone. "Lisbon became both my studio and my muse," he says. He wandered the city collecting field recordings— from trams to people singing on street corners. He sifted through flea markets for records to use for sampling (exclusively Portuguese and South American). Populous describes Lisbon as a city 'halfway between South American soul and European modernity, African in some aspects, and dramatically melancholic." He channeled these poignant fusions into Azulejos, named for the typical tiled facades in Portugal— simultaneously bright and decaying. The album features collaborations with Nina Miranda of Smoke City and Ela Minus, among others. It's a love letter to Lisbon, and a dreamy quilt of sounds he both grew up with and heard for the first time during his influential stay in Portugal.

We asked close friends and long time idols to play their part to the full to complete the third edition of the label’s Family Horror compilation series. The outcome is a clear snapshot of the musical inclinations of the three label founders, Sevensol & Map.ache (aka Manamana) and Bender, encapsulating an idiosyncratic, modern house sound that demands an emotional response.

Classically trained instrumentalist and Cocoon alum Malandra Jr. kicks off proceedings on a dynamic note with a pair of blissed-out tracks featuring blossoming synths, supple drums and whirring glitches. Citizen Kain follows suit with two energy-loaded numbers, the more dreamy and spaced out 'Crush', followed by the vocal-heavy 'Balance'. Next up is German producer Heerhorst who takes a turn for deep and pensive melodies with 'Centaurus', while 'Hydra' stands out with powerful synths and a rattling beat. Bold, intense synths are also at the core of Transcode’s 'String Theory' and 'Molecular Cloud', with the former offering a massive breakdown fit for peak time, and the latter a more resolute atmosphere overall. In the release’s final quarter, we find Olivier Giacomotto with two tribal-tinged constructions, the slow burner 'Moonshine', and its more unhinged counterpart, 'Bonobo'. Made in Paris rounds off the Trip with a couple of stirring slices brimful of radiating synths and spacious breakdowns.

All in all, a steady trickle of dancefloor-primed pieces setting off sparks of all the different types of energy needed to sustain a coalescent set.

Dee Montero is next up on the ever reliant music tastemakers that are Do Not Sit On The Furniture Recordings. 

Montero is a UK artist with an international profile. He is a former resident at Cafe Mambo for eight years and has some serious skills in the DJ booth. His productions skills are renowned and revered too, with recent releases on the likes of Lee Burridge's Tale & Tones, Hot Since 82's Knee Deep In Sound, and Solomun's Diynamic, where his 'Halcyon' track spent 5 weeks at #1 on Beatport, and was Pete Tong's #1 Track of 2017. Here he goes deep and emotional on his four latest and great tracks. 

Chakra opens up with spine tingling xylophones dancing over rubbery, rolling grooves. It's a late night cut with a real sense of musical spirit that burrows deep into your brain. Ventura then picks up the pace but stays just as seductive, with supple kicks and more busy but enchanting new age melodies floating up top next to draped piano chords that are full of feeling. Bahia then traps you in a trance, with more sustained pads and chanting vocals that are utterly uplifting. It's a magical cut once more. Last of all, Samsara is another hands in the air, lighters out kind of tune with dreamy pads and superbly crafted melodies that are soft and shiver inducing. 

This really is a classy house EP from one of the best labels in the game.

Sabo’s label Sol Selectas has an ethos of releasing music that moves mind body and soul with melodic grooves intertwined between tribal percussion, and this new release is from Spanish artist Mark Alow.

Mark Alow is already a valued member of the Sol Selectas family with his track “White Tusk” being one of the label’s bestselling tracks also charting # 1 on Beatport, and his original tracks on this release are complimented by a remix from Hraach.

Other labels to have also championed the deep atmosphere and haunting beauty of Mark Alow’s music include Little Helpers, Baile Musik, When We Dip XYZ and Solar Distance. He also recently collaborated with Gab Rhome for an EP on Bar 25 Music.

On remix duty, Hraach has previously featured on Sol Selectas working alongside Armen Miran, but this time he returns in a solo capacity to remind us of his exceptional musical skill. One of the most successful artists of his genre he has also featured on the likes of Earthly Delights, Underyourskin and Sudbeat Music.

Opening the release “Temple of Time” is a blissful journey that explores the different timbres of the Skahuhachi flute, and the Kora string instrument. The playful interaction between these two instruments and the steady flow of the percussion has a mesmerising effect that transports the listener to ancient times.

Hraach’s interstellar approach to “Temple of Time” adds blissful pads and spacious ambience to the track. Hauntingly beautiful, the wispy textures build an ethereal atmosphere that complements the original’s percussion, and instead of looking to the past this version has us gazing up at the stars.

Third on the EP is the sensual “Astrophilia” which blends spiritual chanting with wind-instrument flutters and submerged breathing to create a ritualistic dance floor experience, and the irresistible tribal elements keep us on the path through time like a shaman guiding the trip.

Finishing the selection “Yugen” turns up the funk with its simple but effective bassline, swirling pads, and fluttering flute. The jovial breakdown is an oriental soundscape painting pictures of geisha dancing at a traditional party in a Japanese garden.

The artwork by Helia Jamali portraits the passage of time upon the Earth’s magical landscapes, and into a parallel dimension where sunsets surround a sacred geometric temple of time, with an archway leading us into the future.
