The human tone engages with the secret world of pond sounds. The orchestra, surely, is complete. It certainly doesn’t need me. But I take it as a place from which to begin. Interspecies musicians want to ensnare music out of the surrounding sounds.

This soundworld is busy, beating, thrumming, pulsing, all on its own without any transformations. This is a single piece that convinces me that playing along with ponds is a proven thing. Yes it does work. So much is going on beneath the water. Its bustle implores me to slow down, relax, get lyrical for once.

This is a magical sound forest right around you, usually ignored. Drop the hydrophone down, plug in, hear it for yourself, imagine what you want to add to such a thing.

This is the pond of ponds.

Little Pond Beasts With Clarinet

The third year in a row a pair of Blyth's Reed Warblers will nest at Salsta Castle, just north of Uppsala. Always a pleasure to record with all its imitations. At least 15 species are discernible in this recording: Chaffinch, House Martin, White Wagtail, Linnet, Common Swift, Goldfinch, Bluethroat, Blackbird, Yellow Wagtail, Blue Tit, Redstart, Fieldfare, Barn Swallow, Wheatear and Redwing. Blyth's Reed Warbler - the master mimic!

A remix of part of the soundtrack of the film SONG FROM THE FOREST, www.songfromtheforest.com , coming to theaters in the USA this spring, which tells the story of Louis Sarno, who came from New Jersey to live thirty years with pygmies in the Central African Republic, recording their music.  In the film je comes back to the USA with his 12-year old son Samedi, to show his son the world Louis came from.

The text comes from a section of the film where Jim Jarmusch, once Louis Sarno's roommate, explains a view of the world that he and Louis have always shared.

Two Thrush Nightingales in song.  Recorded at night beginning at 2.05am on the 20th of May 2013, in Soomaa National Park, Estonia.  This is the third of three recordings.  Some months ago I uploaded this same recording but a shorter version in 44khz/16bit, this recording is the full-length 48Khz/24Bit version.  Equipment; A matched pair of Sennheiser MKH8020 microphones, a Sound Devices MixPre microphone pre-amp and a Marantz PMD661 solid state recorder.

Since they’re now scattered throughout the U.S. and Europe, the four band members assembled when possible to write and record, piggybacking those sessions onto gigs in Istanbul and Madrid and Paris and New York. Despite the distance, Brazilian Girls consistently found their chemistry as kinetic as when they first started out. “It’s a little astounding to us because we’ll go so long without playing, and then we get together and things just happen in this very harmonious way,” says Sciubba.
