I’m pleased to give you Episode 8 of the Lowering The Tone Podcast, as always expect a broad mix of electronic music & chat.


This time round I had the pleasure of talking with Steve Young AKA Hedflux about his journey into music & the up’s and downs of life in general, it's a long conversation which I decided not to edit down Iv'e just extended the show to fit it all in! 
Steve is an interesting and intelligent character that I am sure you will warm to.

I try hard to make these shows honest & representative of my personality and my tastes, I hope by now that is coming through in each show & I genuinely love doing this, but I’m not the greatest at online promotion, in fact I become a bit self conscious about ‘over doing it’ (no one wants to be accused of Spamming), so if you can lend a hand by sharing the link via your social media platforms it would be a massive boost to the awareness…. and I won’t have to look like a dick that just talks about the same thing all the time ;-)

Josh Lee and you.are debut with a sterling single release entitled 'Radical'. This track has been going down amazingly well in any club the guys have been testing it, not to mention the faces people pull off the B-side 'Sonos' when it drops! Hopefully this will be the first of many releases from this new House duo, with residences at Lancaster's Infamous 'The Bass Race' and the city's own Mint bar along with being part of the LUEDMS party squad and playing out in the great city of Manchester whenever they're back home these guys are definitely ones to watch in the UKs House scene. Come On Music, the first collaboration between Cognitive artists DJ D-Xtreme and Devine Noise, is the Tenth release on Cognitive Music, and these two have delivered an amazing track. The song is a dark, heavy breakbeat journey that has elements of both progressive and electro, a perfect collaboration between these two artists. The track starts out building a fat, distorted, kick driven breakbeat with several percussive elements while adding beautiful arpeggiated rhythms as we head into the first break. The melodic side takes over and calms the mood for a moment as we build back into the beat. A very strong bass line pushes the dark nature of the track as rhythmic synths and an ever present distorted vocal keeps the song moving toward the big break. As the beat drops, rhythmic chords and a myriad of pads and effects help build the energy back to a bass heavy break while the melodies and effects reveal themselves. This track will fit into any breakbeat DJ’s crate, appealing to fans of all tastes. 

On remix duty, Bass Ballers come out of the gate with an 808 driven version that keeps the dark feel of the original while bringing a funkier side to the track. Boom is the name of the game as this remix comes hard from the first beat, hitting the lower frequencies while bring the melodic content of the original. As their remix builds toward the big break, a sub boom bass line and driving melodic elements really make the remix bounce. The break brings things way down with a gated pad and keys as the energy builds into a huge bass line driven beat, bringing the earlier elements together into a killer finish. This remix is build to destroy subs and dance floors alike.

It's been a long time in the making. From their early days as label-mates on the legendary Gigolo records, these two dons have remixed each other, DJ'd back-to-back, even worked on the same motion picture together (Ivory Tower), but not until now have they teamed up so completely, or to such devastating effect. On the eve on BNR's 10 year celebrations, where the two will headline a series of 6 shows together, Turbo proudly presents '100.'

Both producers come through clearly: the slamming drums and acid Boys Noize has so thoroughly mastered, the clever vocal hooks, catchy basslines and ravey breakbeat flourishes that are the feathers in Tiga's boa - the best of both artists are brought together here, with a distinct nod to their electro roots. It's an immediate winner, asserting it's sonic prowess through a flawless arrangement, confidently proclaiming it's perfection in a slick, round triple-digit. One-hundred.

The magic, as in Mind Dimension, Let's Go Dancing, or Bugatti, is for packaging true pop into a compact, techno power-punch that leaves underground cred intact. Both Tiga and Boys Noize are outstandingly versatile DJs who consistently yearn for something more than the obvious tropes of EDM, embracing extremes, fitting in the esoteric, being connoisseurs of a multitude of micro-genres of electronic music. 'Jam #1' is an ode to these low-slung techno roots, a stripped-down bonus beat that lays down the law of the drum machine, and sets the stage for the forthcoming '808 IRAQ' pulled from the same Berlin studio-session, soon to be released on BNR.
