Rhys Fulber, a key figure in the industrial and electronic scene for his work with Front Line Assembly and Delerium, presents his new solo album, Memory Impulse Autonomy, under Artoffact Records. This work bridges his roots in the dark sound of the '80s (inspired by Cabaret Voltaire, Portion Control, and his fellow Skinny Puppy collaborators) with his evolution into contemporary industrial techno.

The album captures the creative essence of his early years, when he experimented with analog equipment in improvised sessions. "The title reflects those memories of musical discovery and the freedom to create without constraints," Fulber explains. The album features collaborations with avant-garde vocalists: William Maybelline (Qual) lends his signature brooding voice to The Abyss, Barkosina (Years of Denial) shines on the club track Only Love Will Save You, and Konstantin Unwohl adds depth to the industrial ballad Nichts Dafür Getan.

The cover art, designed by legendary artist Steven R. Gilmore (longtime collaborator with Skinny Puppy), pays homage to the genre's classic aesthetics. The album alternates between powerful cuts like Exlavier and more atmospheric moments like Further Back And Forward, showcasing Fulber's versatility.

It's a gift that producers as influential as Rhys Fulber continue to enrich our ears with new work, while also sharing their personal reflections on their current creative phase and new album.

Sounds From NoWhere is pleased to premiere a new Rhys Fulber' gem on 'Artoffact Records'.

Fêted electronic artist Rhys Fulber takes you further back and forward with his first solo release for Artoffact, Memory Impulse Autonomy. 
The album harks back to the music that Fulber made in his youth inspired by bands such as Cabaret Voltaire, Portion Control and fellow Vancouverites Skinny Puppy but blends those influences with the brutalist rhythms and harsh industrial techno that he has been pioneering in recent years.

Thematically, the record explores his joy of creating music for the first time in the Eighties using primitive equipment with a freedom of expression driven only by his imagination.

’‘The title refers to fond memories of my roots in making electronic music and the excitement and passion I had for these sounds that were new at the time,’‘ Fulber says. 
‘‘That style is embedded in me.  Going back to them allowed me to make music on impulse, and many of the instrumentals were created from studio jams.’‘

While there are distinct nods to the past in the gnarly Richard H Kirk-esque cut ups of All Of You Go To Heaven and Baaderzeit’s eerie Tangerine Dream-like sequences, the album is also very much a modernist collaborative effort, utilising voices from the forefront of contemporary electronic music including William Maybelline (Qual/Lebanon Hanover), Years of Denial’s Barkosina and Hamburg-based aufnahme+wiedergabe recording artist Konstantin Unwohl.

In 1998-99, I along with Christie Elizabeth, Jason Adams, Rob VocTave Nagy, Eric Alleman, Jamie and Daniel Raible and several others went to work in an office space converted into a recording studio above a wig shop in Lorain, Ohio on many musical projects. Among them was an album for my band Bath. We recorded a 6 song album called Endpoint Fireworshiper and played several shows in that incarnation. We released one of the songs, "Redshot" on 12" vinyl through ArchETyp's 2122 Corporation label under the name 1954. Then we split the release and even some of the tracks into two EPs, Fireworshiper on Andréas Marchal's Vaatican Records and Endpoint on Jon Seven's Timetheory netlabel. The album was never released in its entirety... until now.

We had a quick chat with Pinkman Records founder Marsman this week alongside this stellar addition to our mix series, 75 minutes of fresh, unplanned selections for the club, recorded at Operator Radio HQ. We'll leave it to Marsman to go into detail... 

"I really had fun recording this session, thanks so much for this opportunity! Because almost the entire Pinkman tour we had planned for this year got cancelled due to the virus, I hadn’t touched a DJ set for over 2 months. I went to Operator with an USB stick filled with music I’d never played before to record the mix. My approach was to do a set I would play at the club, because I truly miss that at the moment. The selection is a mixture of upcoming Pinkman releases, promos I received from befriended artists / labels and stuff I recently bought."

Textbeak has been producing and spinning dark music for a quite a while now. Influenced by artists such as Coil, Cabaret Voltaire, and Skinny Puppy, he started creating music in the late 80s with his longtime friend Todd Sines. Together, they worked on various projects and eventually formed B/Re (Body Release) with Titonton Duvante and Charles Noel. Textbeak (as his project Bath) later signed with Jevan Records (run by Lestat) and recorded with producer Kramer. He has since released solo works under the name Textbeak on various labels.   

Textbeak has performed at numerous events nationally and internationally, opening for notable artists such as Modern English, Merzbow, Nitzer Ebb, The Legendary Pink Dots and Meat Beat Manifesto. He has also remixed tracks for various artists including Architect (aka Daniel Myer of Haujobb), ∆AIMON, Blush Response and Bestial Mouths. His recent release, Sick For Songs A Season Eats, on Cleopatra Records featured collaborations with Mark Stewart (The Pop Group), John Fryer (This Mortal Coil) and more.  

His latest release VIBROFOLK will be out April 23rd on ClanDestine Records (Glasgow) under the artist name BLOODBEAK🩸
