“Friday On My Mind – Reggae Infused” by The Jamaica Band vs The OUTpsiDER is a reggae-fusion reinterpretation of the 1966 rock anthem “Friday on My Mind” (originally written by George Young and Harry Vanda, and performed by The Easybeats). In this version, The Jamaica Band transforms the song’s youthful energy and working-class optimism into a reggae groove, while The OUTpsiDER adds electronic textures and experimental modulations. The result is a vibrant cross-cultural collaboration that reimagines a rock classic as a reggae-EDM hybrid.

I haven't done a serious mix in a while and somehow it ended up being a blend of melancholy blues, swing and heaps of tropical courtesy of some of my favourite producers at the moment. 

The last time I did a mix I was still using vinyl so I wanted to experiment with sorting one out entirely digitally. It's not as easy as it should be...mostly just difficult keeping the quality up after having had to rerecord MP3s at altered tempos for the mixes. If any of the artists featured in the mix feel like sending me full wavs or aifs of their tunes then I'd be delighted to slot them back in at higher quality. Here's the tracklist.

"Linton Kwesi Johnson was born on 24 August 1952 in Chapelton, a small town in the rural parish of #Clarendon, Jamaica. He came to London in 1963, went to Tulse Hill secondary school and later studied Sociology at Goldsmiths’ College, University of London. Whilst still at school he joined the Black Panthers, helped to organise a poetry workshop within the movement and developed his work with #Rasta Love, a group of poets and drummers. In 1977 he was awarded a C Day Lewis Fellowship, becoming the writer-in-residence for the London Borough of Lambeth for that year. He went on to work as the Library Resources and Education Officer at the Keskidee Centre, the first home of Black theatre and art."
