FIRST OFF, THIS FOR ME ANYWAY, IS TRULY CLASSIC HARD HOUSE NRG FROM BACK IN THE DAY - ALL TUNES THAT I MISSED FIRST TIME ROUND, IN THE VERY LATE 1990s EARLY 2000s!!

GOING BACK YEARS LATER WITH A WANT LIST OF BIG TUNES THAT GAVE ME AN UNDERSTANDING OF HARD HOUSE ALMOST FULL CIRCLE, IT WAS A REAL EDUCATION TO GET AN ARCHIVE OF EARLY ACID SYNTHS, HOOVERS & PURE STRIPPED BACK BUT SOLID UNDERGROUND HARD HOUSE SLAMMERS, NOT ALL OBVIOUS OR INDEED OFTEN DROPPED BUT STILL HAVING A NOSTALGIC EDGE WITH TRACKS KNOWN TO MOST WHO KNOW THEIR HISTORY OF NRG.

FIRST BEGAN TO MIX IN 1998 AT AGE 15, I CERTAINLY HAD NO HOPE OF GETTING INTO A NIGHT CLUB WITHOUT ID BEFORE I WAS 18 SO HAD TO SIT IT OUT BED ROOM DJING MY HEART OUT - CLUB MIXING REALLY WAS LIKE A DREAM. 

I HAD BUILT A PASSIONATE LOVE FOR TRANCE, WITH NO CLUE WHAT THE UNDERGROUND PARTY VIBE STOOD FOR, I WAS WELL AWARE OF FOR YEARS & YEARS BUT LOOKING FROM OUTSIDE, DESPERATE TO BE A PART, DID NOT FIT IN WITH POPULAR CULTURE AT SCHOOL, BRIT POP ERA WAS THE BIG THING BUT FOR ME IT WAS ALL ABOUT THE HARDCORE - BASS GENERATOR FROM 11 YEARS OLD, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A TUNE HEAD & PROUD OF IT!!! 

TRANCE TUNES CAME ALONG AT A TIME WHEN MY HARDCORE FLAME BURNED OUT, JUST BEFORE I STARTED DJING FOR VARIOUS REASONS BUT I STILL WOULD BUY HARDER VINYLS NOT REALISING THE DIFFERENT SCENES THAT TRANCE & OTHERS HAD FROM EACH OTHER, 2001 I TURNED 18 SO THAT WAS BIG FOR ME - MY CLUBBING ADVENTURES HAD KICKED OFF, WITH MY OLDER FREINDS RUNNING A NIGHT ALREADY, THAT WAS WHERE MY BOUNCE BEGAN. FRESHED FACED & CLUELESS, THEY REALLY LAID A FOUNDATION WARMING UP WITH HOUSE, PROGRESSIVE, TRANCE THEN ENDING WITH PICOTTO STYLE COMMERCIAL ANTHEMS - LEARNED LOADS, REALLY INSPIRED ME & IT WAS GREAT FUN!!

I WENT TO A CLUB CALLED DRUM IN ABEREDEEN WHICH WAS FAMOUS UP HERE FOR BEING A SPIRITUAL HOME FOR THIS HARD AS NAILS, BANGING JOURNEY THAT I WAS REALLY UNAWARE WOULD CHANGE MY LIFE FOREVER, IT JUST FELT RIGHT & STOOD OUT BIG TIME!!!! 

THE UNDERGROUND SCENE I WOULD BECOME ONE WITH WAS GOING THROUGH CHANGE WHEN I ARRIVED, HARD TRANCE BURST INTO MY LIFE - FRANTIC, Y2K, SUNDISSENTIAL, IMPACT, BXR, HONEY POT, FLASH POINT RECORDS BLEW MY MIND, IT WAS PERFECT WITH A HARD EDGE & TRANCE EDGE TOGETHER IN HARMONIOUS WONDER, THEN TIDY 2 & GOODGRIEF TO NAME A FEW BIG PLAYERS, KNID OF PUT THE HARDHOUSE NRG/HEAVIER STYLE O THE BACK BURNER FOR A WHILE, THERE FOR I MISSED OUT ON THIS OLD SKOOL NRG TUNES UNTIL I STARTED DIGGING THE HOOVER SOUNDS & BECAME AN NRG FULL ON FAN!!! 

THE IMPACT HARD HOUSE & IT'S SUBGENRE BRANCHES HAD ON ME WAS SO IMPORTANT, ALTHOUGH I STILL LOVE TRANCE, TECHNO, EVEN FREEFORM & LOADS OF GENRES BETWEEN, THE VALUE OF BEING PART OF A COLLECTIVE GROUP AT THAT TIME IS SOMETHING I AM THANKFULL FOR & IT LAID A REALLY SOLID FOUNDATION, GAVE ME TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF THE FUNDAMENTALS & ALLOWED ME TO PUT MY OWN SPIN ON IT WITH REAL CONVICTION THAT HAS MADE ME NOT JUST THE DJ BUT AS A PERSON ALSO.

JUST WANT TO ADD THIS TO MY STORY, I STRONGLY BELIEVE IN KEEPING THE VIBE ALIVE & HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A CHAMPION FOR FUTURE PROGRESS -

Matt Adam - Production Mix 2024

This is the audio of the livestream I did with Wellybob, where we recorded number 11 in my Balls Deep mix series Live on Twitch.

The intention was to lay it down as a live recording, blemishes and all(!) It's not perfect, but putting it out this way was the original intention. I think we fared pretty well given a couple of stream interruptions which luckily didn't affect the recording itself. There's the odd slip-up you'd expect with live conditions, but apart from that, it came out really great overall. No tracklist currently as we worked from multiple sources, but if I can sit and work it out across the 3hrs, I will add it later.

As with all the mixes in my Balls Deep series, this one does not hold back... and dare I say it, I think Wellybob actually out-filthed me on this one, and I couldn't be prouder! I will definitely be doing more of these with Welly and other DJs in future.

At 15 years old his DJ journey had began although his love for dance music was born years before, at the age of 11 he found Hardcore & never looked back. His passion for dance music grew & before  long he saved up himself for a set of Numark decks & a cheap mixer, going on to teach himself how to play & dedicated his time & money to his art, it was clear by age 18 it was a matter of time before a night club came calling.

Trance music was the biggest influence & is still such an important part of his sound - the foundations were laid!! 

After playing a few gigs at a local club in a town outside Aberdeen, The Craigmile hotel was the first venue he played at. At age 21, DJ EGG had now found Hard house & quickly became part of the scene. Meeting influential people who would go on to give him a residency, 

He became a regular at Taste night club then went on to run nights every weekend. Taste was a real learning curve & a baptism of fire. 

Setting out to bring cutting edge music & DJs to Aberdeen has been his mission & still is - he introduced Technikal, Barry Diston, Paul Glazby, Ilogik - & many others. With a mind set that is all about the music, he continues to seek out the sound that will change & evolve Aberdeen's clubbing mantra - not always easy but it is a worthy cause.

With many tough, heartbreaking & difficult times along side amazing dream come true happy moments, his DJ path has been testing & really defined him as a person in so many ways, a fresh outlook was required to inject new life into those creative attributes, after a year or so away from it, he is ready rock!!!

The dawn of a new era with more cool grooves, nicely formed beats, melodic breakdowns, chunky vibes, cutting edge bass lines, uplifting energy, slamming power mixes, cuts, fx, spin backs & digging into more styles, tring new things but with a different outlook & healthier state of mind, his musical journey is now going down a different path.
