DC Promo Tracks: Hidden Spheres Ft Private Joy "Hold On Me" (Deep mix instrumental)

Hot on the heels of Manuel Tur’s heavyweight vinyl reissue of his cinematic downtempo long player ‘Intertextural’ comes this package of remixes of four standout tracks by DJ Counselling, All is Well and Japan’s Yuu Udagawa.

London producer DJ Counselling opens the EP with his energetic version of ‘Omina’, raising tempo and hands with an expertly executed arrangement, while the newly added filtered synth chords echo some of Tur's best-known releases of the late noughties. Next up is Montreal’s Frédéric Blais aka All Is Well.  After his recent album success on Drumpoet, and his current long player drop under his Fred Everything moniker, the Canadian master producer turns up the heat on ‘Flakon’ flipping it into a head-nodding groove masterpiece that recalls the subtle 90s trip-hop flavour of the original version. On the B-side, Tokyo native Yuu Udagawa - who has collaborated with Tur on several occasions - unleashes two shimmering, ethereal remixes of ‘Slow White’ and ‘Shadowgraph’ that guide the listener on a floating journey through Yuu’s signature sparkling sound.

DC Promo Tracks: Apollon Telefax "Blablaster"

The second edition of this vital series features world-renowned talents such as Benjamin Fröhlich, Venice Arms aka Curses, Massimiliano Pagliara, Zombies in Miami, label founder Jorkes, and many more.

Queer Base is a charity in Vienna that offers social and legal counselling to LGBTQI+ refugees who arrive in Austria, including providing help with court cases, finding housing, community events, organising German lessons, HIV/STI testing, and more. This tastefully curated selection traverses the electronic spectrum in style. Polygonia opens with supple and trippy minimal on 'Cheeky Seduction' and things build through dubby, stripped-back analogue grooves from HCL, typically bright, jacked-up, and synth-heavy sounds from Massimiliano Pagliara on 'Distant Memory' and retro-future disco-house from Benjamin Fröhlich. CYRK's 'Fade 2 Gay' is a slow-motion and moody dark disco chugger before Gunce Aci picks it up with some skyward arps and slap-funk drums on 'Whatever It Takes.'

Elsewhere Zombie Affair, aka Zombies in Miami & Mystery Affair, offer the body-popping electro-disco of 'Girl, You Got Me', Panooc's 'Pellucid' is a throwback and sensual vocal house cut and Lydia Eisenblätter brings all out piano house joy to 'What Is Love' before the closer from Mala Ika is another celebratory cut full of hands in the air synths and joyous drums.

This compilation is not only an essential listen but also an essential project that highlights and supports the vital work undertaken by Queer Base. The artwork was created by label creative powerhouse Daniel Rajcsanyi, and the LP was mastered by Blackheadstudios.

DC Promo Tracks: Bosq & Kaleta "Ariya Tide"

The 'Sail We Must' EP by Irish producer Signa Rust draws inspiration from Alfos, reflecting a mutual appreciation for slower-paced sounds around the 100/110bpm mark. Crafted primarily with analog gear, it's a track that embodies hope and is dedicated to Signa's late father. The saying "fail we may, sail we must," an old fisherman's adage, resonates throughout the work, honoring his lifelong career in the industry. The opening track unfolds with a 303 and a uniquely twisted synth arp, then shifts gears with the introduction of strings, infusing the piece with a sense of hope and serene joy. '13.0 TeV' begins with the characteristic 808 percussion sounds, mingled with dubby samples that create a Rastafarian ambiance, followed closely by the 303's simmering acidity, before escalating with a distorted pad sequence. The EP concludes with Will Flisk's remix of '13.0 TeV'.

Premiere : Signa Rust - Sail We Must [Elephant Gait Music]

French saxophonist Musina Ebobissé unveils ‘Armaun’, his third release under the Blendreed moniker.  Armaun is Ambient Resistance Music Against Urban Noise, taking a stand against the interference of invasive irritants with sublime slow-motion music.
 
It is four pieces evoke an ecstatic peace within, allowing both artist and listener to breathe deeply. As the compositions unfold, each exhalation resonates at the frequency of the human mind in repose. Layers of treated and reverberant saxophone fuse into a hypnagogic whole  - the space between sleep and awake - as elongated melodies interact with their own fragmented and transformed echoes. In a semi dream state, existence is experienced at a languid pace, as each phrase decays into a haze of cross currents. 
 
If ‘Armaun’ recalls the fourth world music of Jon Hassell and Eno, it equally finds oblique kinship with André 3000’s New Blue Sun. Likewise, it shares essential DNA with vaporwave and the tape-loop experiments of Terry Riley. 
Conceived as a confluence of acoustic and electronic elements, Blendreed explores the intersection of jazz, ambient, post-rock, and the experimental. This is work of exquisite beauty with a direct function. It provides an antidote to the bombardment of our senses. After unhooking your mind from temporal entanglements, ‘Armaun’ will absorb your soul.

Boulderhead debuts on Rhythm Section International with his most expansive EP to date: “ I Need Space to Dance”

The Bristol based producer, known for his intricately crafted, up tempo club records has long been a favourite at RS HQ and has, over the years, garnered much respect from a plethora of influential DJs. His most recent hit “ Bread, Butter, Noodles, Spice”, was a festival earworm and one of the most played underground tracks of 2023.

Existing in the sweet spot between tech-house, prog, broken beat and minimal techno - this EP sees Boulderhead widen his sonic palette with a collection of songs that showcase his versatility.

We are treated to contemplative, deep dubby moments (“Adapting”), glistening rollers ( “Saucy Hive Mind”) right through to the 146pm psychedelic tour-de-force of “ Sense Hyper”.

Boulderhead - real name Henry James, doubles down on his trademark shuffly ‘spoken word - tech’ recipe with soon-to-be club favourite “I Need Space” featuring frequent collaborator Overnite Oates, who over the course of 6 minutes, demands space - to dance!

“Dance and Dance Again” expands on this format with more chopped vocals increasing the bounce per ounce.

Equally appealing to the Ricardo Villalobos contingent as it will be to those delving into the history of progressive house and the golden days of minimal techno - we think there’s a bit of something for everyone here.

Despite the many different bases the EP touches on - the sound pallette and production are unified and coherent. Henry is at the top of his game, and much like contemporary artists like Adam Pits, Priori and Russell EL Butler - his style screams ALBUM!

A dream tree, Polly's tree:
  thicket of sticks,
    each speckled twig

ending in a thin-paned
  leaf unlike any
    other on it

or in a ghost flower
  flat as paper and
    of a color

vaporish as frost-breath,
  more finical than
    any silk fan

the Chinese ladies use
  to stir robin's egg
    air. The silver-

haired seed of the milkweed
  comes to roost there, frail
    as the halo

rayed round a candle flame,
  a will-o'-the-wisp
    nimbus, or puff

of cloud-stuff, tipping her
  queer candelabrum.
    Palely lit by

snuff-ruffed dandelions,
  white daisy wheels and
    a tiger faced

pansy, it glows. O it's
  no family tree,
    Polly's tree, nor

a tree of heaven, though

Mix of the Week #246 is "With the Dolphins" by ch00n!!

This guest mix was inspired by a week-long trip in the North Sea accompanied by visits to remote coastal locations in Scotland. It pictures an undersea paradise - exotic coral reefs, dolphins playing - huge galaxies of water flooded with the screams of humpback whales - the vast underworld transformed into an elaborate oceanic collage combining new age synth and hazy ritual atmospheres.

The essence of the mix is to be found in the gentle percussive resonances, where the combination of beachside ambience and submerged sonics build into an evocation of the rhythms and movements of the sea - a slow, continually evolving seascape, its borders infinite and invisible.
