MM Cast 02: COYOTE

Is it Balearic? Recordings' capos Timm Sure and Ampo have been on the "Balearic Scene" even before the word "Balearic" got fashionable some years ago.  They started as djs in the early 90's becoming residents at the historical "Venus" in Nottingham, it was in 2002 when they became producers and from then on they started producing tracks under the moniker Coyote, being responsable of notorious works signed on "International Feel", "Needwant" and "Music for Dreams" to name a few, and of course on their own imprint "Is It Balearic? Recordings"

Was in 2006 when "IIB?" started and since then, and a long with the sublabels "Über" and "Magic Wand", 15 years of pure Balearic Bliss where the "brithish-downtempo-maestros" have featured artists from the likes of Max Essa, Danielle Baldelli, Dj Rocca, Bonnie & Klein, Mori Ra and Anton Klint to name a few.

2021 has been a very prolific year for Coyote, delivering an amazing EP "Return to life" and another remixes ep of their LP "Buzzard Country", both records on "Is It Balearic? Recordings". They also have been working for MM Discos doing a magical rework of Bonnie & Klein's Albatros

The contribution of the Nottingham based producers to the scene is unquestionable and crucial, being a constant influence for dj's and producers who decided to move forward with the sound that artists like Dj Alfredo, Paul Oakenfold or Jose Padilla discovered back in the days from the "white Island" to rest of the world.

When we talk about their sound, a question comes to our head,,"Is it Balearic?", of course it is, but more than this, this is COYOTE Sound!!

Welcome one of the most expressive Polish producers of electronic music.

Originally from Koszalin, Marcin Łukaszewicz started his adventure with music in primary school. The first live performances appeared in the mid 90s. At the beginning, they were sets played from cassette tapes, and then from vinyl records. As Das Komplex, Łukaszewicz made a debut in 2007.

The first release of Das Komplex was the EP Nowadays, which was released in 2015 by by Father & Son Records & Tapes.
Years passed and Łukasiewicz did not intend to change his approach to creation. He regularly recorded and presented new productions.

Late 2021, he appeared on the Pikes Hotel compilation by DJ Harvery.
His next offering will be an EP released on Prins Thomas Internasjonal label.

About Max's mix, he prepared a small presentation of what he recorded : " It’s partly a typical soundtrack to my day, but also a ‘travelogue’ of sorts. The music sparks memories and daydreams, causing my mind to wander to far off places, both experienced and imagined :-)"

Mix of the Week #345: Tigerbalm - Eternal Boogie Mix

Next up in our mix series is Automaticamore (Diana Chan McNally): Toronto’s authority on esoteric Italo/Disco/New Beat/Synth-Pop, & purveyor of weirdy dance-floor capers at her LJ residency ‘Body Heat’. Diana holds down several nights here and afar and can be found carting her eye-watering rarities from spot to spot to share live with lucky punters in Canada, Euro-land and South of the border. 

Here she transports us to a misty Montreal disco playing Canadian tracks/rare Canuck pressings exclusif. It’s a hook-down/off the ground twinkling piano lift-off, into cronky Quebecois sleaze, riding the slap bass into that gitchy-ya-ya goblin voiceover. The cowbell/laser/buzzsaw party invites sensuous saxaphone narration to the function and caps it off with a vocoded appeal to sway. 

Descend the narrow stairway and bathe in the fog machine fumes…
