The Lake

I've always loved the prayer quality of Main Man, and somehow I thought I could do that justice.

I recorded a lot of vocals first, exactly as I remembered them.

And not having a lot of access to my instruments right now (see "No Room") I opted for a guitar track I had laying around. Just 2 notes. What 2 notes? I have no idea! (Footnote, I'm guessing G and E, that's the notes I played later on the synth as a sort of support)

And so, the guitar at a totally different rhythm from the original Main Man, I had to space apart the vocals, and also I thought I wanted computer vocals again, but it's so funny, I can't get the newer better vocals with my newer better computer, so I have to settle for these older sounding and pretty much unpredictable ones.

The funny thing is I *say* I want to work with limitations, but I always think I know what that means in advance and I never do, and then I wind up with something like this crazy track, which is no particular key in no particular rhythm, has mangled vocals and I guess is half prayer, half shit-crazy transmission from your crazy uncle.

Oh well. Thanks Marc Bolan, thanks friends everywhere.

Main Man

I've been trying to use that percussion for months- it's from a machine Maddie Fix has, delightful analog foxtrot and other settings. 

This song turned out grouchier than I initially intended. Originally it was about staring at simple things- bottles, etc and letting that be what moved you, but it became about misanthropy. Oh well, it always seems to go there, doesn't it?

This song unfortunately maligns Bahrain, a country I have no beef with.

Deep Fade Mix I - Fading

This one, after the last song which was very clearly in either G or Gb, was me playing and trying to understand KEY a little bit better. 

I found this old riff I played a long time ago, realized it was a lovely gentle thing but not somber enough for me. After deciding it was in D major, I realized it sounded like an uplifting ending to something. 

So thinking that, I thought it should start in D minor, and as such, I started playing around with D minor chords (Dm Bb Gm F Am C, I think) . From there, some of these riffs came about, and it sounded/felt like walking on pebbles to me, a pebbly shore. Orkney, in Scotland, where I've never been and only know via my friend Tim Miller, whose podcast saved my pandemic. He wrote long poems about this ancient place, and longs to return to there. I opened his book and started marking it up, and trying to find some lyrics.

From there, well, here you go. This is for Tim, and features about 1/4 - 1/3 his words.

SWLD explores the process of mind over mayhem, trying to make sense of scattered parts of an experience with a strong emotional dominance in place. It's like catharsis; eliminating a complex, bringing it to consciousness and affording it expression.
The album revolves mainly around the Piano, telling a story and connecting to the listener, while using electronic elements and syncopated dominant beats, portraying the urgency of expressing the feeling behind the whole experience.
