The mad man howls in the kitchen down the phone to his midnight mind magician,
He says, "I've got a clockwork jaw and my head's an empty cupboard.
I've got to come down, where's my late night lethargist?"
And an eighth knocked him out, with an indefatigable fist.

This room smells like lust tinged regret,
the shadows pirouette around a lit cigarette.
The mourners in the corner escape into their minds,
the battering dawn cannot break down the blinds.
There's a notion in the bed between a writhing set of sheets
A notion of affection that replicates a heart that beats
Not for one another but for the memory of a lover,
Lost under the cover of the psychedelic colours.

Stained into the mattress just like all the others.
