'The Mumps make kind of light, wandering post-rock with down-mouthed new wave guitar tones and ‘dancey’ drumming. It’s pretty damn excellent; nodding to cloudy ‘Australian’ sounds while also being fascinating and mightily accessible. Their debut EP, I Wish I Was You, is on iTunes and features the song getting a heap of airplay on FBi, Strange Telegraph, which does have vocals, if that kind of thing matters.' - Timeoff Review

'Strange Telegraph is a haunting slice of clean guitar pop, the band’s tight rhythm section sitting high in the mix while choppy 80s guitar lines intermingle with guest vocalist Nick Van Breda’s achy, slightly quavering delivery which blends in perfectly.'

Strange Telegraph

Skyball begins with an icy ambient section recalling the brilliant Tim Hecker record Ravedeath, 1972, building up slowly until it bursts into a haunting instrumental rock track. The simplicity of the lead guitar enhances its impact while unintelligible samples of voices on the telephone roll around it. The track is probably the highlight of the EP, showcasing an effective combination of the band’s strengths - Faster Louder Review

Skyball

The mellow, downtempo 'Young Boys' is another instrumental track by The Mumps, featuring reverb-laden, ethereal guitars, cello and a sweeping background soundscape, held together by a slow, steady brushed snare drum to create a stunning piece - Faster Louder review

The Mumps make predominantly instrumental tracks with a driving, hypnotic and visual sound. After a time of hiatus they return to breath new life into the post rock genre. 
 
Mostly instrumental, the group know how to take the most minimal elements required to turn out a serious jam that goes beyond the usual boundaries of freeform jam outs.
