Samiyam is Sam Baker, hip-hop producer working out of the same dusty corners of Los Angeles that brought us Flying Lotus, Jonwayne, Gaslamp Killer, Ras G and so many others.

Sam Baker's Album was his debut, released on Brainfeeder in 2011. More
recent credits include production for Captain Murphy's Duality and Earl Sweatshirt's Doris.

Wish You Were Here is his first release with Leaving Records & Stones Throw. It's sixteen tracks ­ instrumentals with three rap tracks featuring
Evidence, The Alchemist and Samiyam, making his debut on the mic. "I'm just trying to show where I'm coming from," he says, "I'm not about futuristic spaceship beats, just straight forward hip-hop."

Working across a variety of media John Lemke explores all things sonic through live performance, sound design and his work as a documentary film composer. The Walizka EP is his latest solo release on Denovali Records.

Three items in a suitcase, a clarinet, a looper and a microphone - is how it all started. 

A free improvisation with friend & collaborator Łukasz Bernacki (on clarinet) sparked John’s desire to bring his compositional and production approach back down to the most basic elements. Creating simple, yet distinctive rhythms only through tapping contact microphones run into noisy guitar amps became the base for the EP’s three tracks, consequently inspiring its live, lo-fi feel. Written and recorded between John’s native Berlin and his adopted home of Glasgow, Walizka (Polish for ‘suitcase’) somehow absorbs the defining atmospheres of both cities in its core.

Previously released digitally as a teaser for John’s debut album, the Walizka EP actually presents newer material, progressing the electro-acoustic nature of ‘People Do’ towards more dub drenched territories. Refining John’s blend of prepared piano and field recordings with hand crafted beats and swampy bass lines, this deeply moody and danceable release bends genres with refreshing ease.

The EP is furthermore enhanced by a second half of remixes by fellow Denovali artists Piano Interrupted, SaffronKeira and Petrels and the ever elusive Everyday Dust. Far from conventional remixes, these pieces fall more in the category of re-imaginations, complementing the EP’s first, more rhythm anchored half with a coherent ambient counterpart.

"When I get asked to do mixes I often take that as an opportunity to put together a selection of my favourite pieces from a specific era, genre or composer. In this case I compiled a number of my favourite Japanese electronic tracks as I have been listening to a lot of that stuff for the past year or so."

Throughout the last decade Ulrich Schnauss has produced three albums which perfectly captured his vision of taking the 90's 'Shoegaze' aesthetic - very uncool at the time as we'll discuss below - and placing it into an electronic context. With the new album 'A Long Way To Fall' Ulrich felt the need to change and explore new avenues. And it's another beauty.

On the 3rd July, German born musician and producer Ulrich Schnauss will play an extra special live A/V show at Electrowerkz. We decided that this was the perfect time to have him create his Ransom Note Mix and we caught up with him to find out a bit more about his background, his mix and his general thought on music;

With a multitude of musical influences, Submerse’s music has shimmered with flecks of J-Pop, drum & bass, 90s slow jams, and sweet r&b, always containing a subtle referential tone towards his love of Japan. With his recent releases on Apollo and Project: Mooncircle, the Tokyo based beatsmith’s beautiful blend of sounds has had us desperate to get him in as part of the Slumber Sessions family. Kick back, and drift off into the sounds of Submerse.

- Our research group is leaving for a remote planet. We are supposed to take some samples and bring them back. I will be leading the mission.

Her:
 - Do you have to? Please stay! I'm begging you!

She couldn't hold back tears anymore, he couldn’t find the right words... He understands that this mission is a way to nowhere...

Every day they talk. He tells her stories about infinite and incredibly beautiful Universe, about countless stars. He ends every story with words of love and a promise to come back soon. She weeps every night — heavy thoughts are haunting her.

Time flies... He is a lot like a boy again — enthusiastic, passionate about stars. Thoughts of home diminish, and less place in his heart is now left for her. She is suffering, she is growing older...

Space! We know so little about it. It seems magnificent and yet alien... Something terrible came across their way, leaving the crew's hearts gripped with horror. A planet is vanishing right before their eyes — a black hole is about to consume it...
