Richmond-based veteran DJ Aakmael was born to a trombonist father and a singer mother, which inevitably led him grow up in a jazz-and-funk-led environment. At the age of 16, he got his start behind the decks, playing everything from hip-hop and RnB to jazz and reggae at house parties and school jams, before getting into house thanks to Inner City's huge tune 'Big Fun'. On a mission to steadily educate the ears of his audience, he could have easily been part of those Founding Fathers of House who have devoted their life to producing and curating some of the best house vibes to date. Aak is mainly known for producing underground hard-hitting deep and raw house, assuredly filled with a touch of melancholy and nostalgia. Today, he no longer has anything to prove as his track record is as long as your arm; he first started to release records in the early 2000s on top dance labels like Note Grooves or Axe on Wax, before creating his own imprint UnXpozd Entertainment. Besides, he has been regularly gracing worldwide dance floors such as ://about:blank (Berlin), Fáklya Klub (Budapest) or Output (NY) alongside house geniuses including Patrice Scott or Kai Alcé.

Living up to his reputation, Aak has been extremely picky when putting his tracks together for this mix in order to uphold his standards. Today, he is delivering mellow but serious house grooves from Demuir, Local Options or Satoshi Tomiie. This could definitely be your new summer chill soundtrack!

I've been asked by Melodic Distraction Radio to curate one of their 'Artist Focus' shows. It's a deep dive into musicians that have defined the sound of modern music; from stone cold classics, unearthed gems and forgotten B sides. I'll present a 60 minute tribute to a single artist who's had a notable impact on my musical life. For this edition I chose to focus on Larry Heard aka MR Fingers. Unquestionably one of electronic music finest pioneers and almost singlehandedly put the deepness in house music, his work sits at the very foundations of the genre. I'll take you through 10 of my choice tracks of his recording career, staying away from some of his more well known productions and digging deep into the back catalogue.

We've been admirers of Jimpster from afar for many a year. He's spent a solid two decades remixing and DJing, playing in the sadly now defunct The Bays, run his very own Freerange Records for 15 of those, as well as the offshoot, yet equally as interesting Delusions of Grandeur on the side. He's probably not someone who gets to spend an awful lot of time putting his feet up with a nice brew but his hard work certainly pays off as there's a mighty fine selection of records with his name attached to them in some form or another. In one of his brief, quieter moments we manged to cajole Jimpster into putting together a nice juicy Ransom Note mix for you to slip into as if it were a warm bath, filled to the brim with scented bubbles.
