This week on The Guest Mix, we welcome Admin!

Based in Bristol, Admin is a seasoned producer and DJ who has released music on labels including Futureboogie, Kolour LTD and Omena Records. One of my highlights was his self-released beauty of a 45 ‘Step Into Light / Reflect + Heal’ which was released last year with support from DJ’s, Luke Una, Moxie and Mafalda.

Founder of the label and party crew Community Disc-O’s Admin is a resident at Bristol’s Crofter’s Rights. His parties have welcomed DJs including Mike Shawe, Frederika & Yadava . Admin is a regular on the Bristol scene and has played clubs across the UK alongside the likes Andres, Moxie, Tone B Nimble & Nightmares on Wax.

For Guest Mix 013, he’s delivered a killer mix of underground disco, latin and funk which I’m sure you’re gonna love!

A hypnotic live set recorded at Brooklyn’s Public Records.

Amelia Holt is a mainstay in Brooklyn’s electronic scene, known for her experimental and shapeshifting sets and community projects including In Your Dirty Ears and Cute af series on Movement Radio. 

The former is a weekly music newsletter that started out as an audio-visual program blending cross-genre music with a collage of visuals designed as experimental sensory therapy. The latter, which she curates with Noff Weezy, focuses on various micro-communities worldwide making an impact in the electronic music scene. It’s one of our favourite series at the moment (the latest one with Ura is especially good).

As we’d hoped, Amelia’s recording doesn't adhere to any preconceptions about what a Theory Therapy mix should sound like. It’s a live recording taken from a recent Public Records event that spans trip hop, deep house, IDM, and bunch of other unbelievably good, mind-bending, bass heavy club music.

LUXE is a DJ and producer who's firmly on the rise. Real name Lucy Hopson, she cut her teeth in Manchester as part of the B.L.O.O.M crew, later making the move to London where her skills both behind the decks and in the studio have quickly piqued the interests of promoters and DJs alike. 

There's a correlation between both ventures; her DJ sets are full of hefty bass, crisp breaks and driving trance sounds, while her productions so far have followed much of the same influences. With a few self-releases and compilation tracks under her belt, she recently made her solo debut for HAAi's Radical New Theory imprint, and Belonging is just as you'd imagine: hypnotic, chugging trance and breakbeat dripping with tittering percussion and warm sub bass.

There's plenty more to come for Lucy this year and beyond but first, she takes us through the gears on today's mix, launching at 100bpm and transporting us all the way up to 160...

You never know what you're going to get if you see the name Hieroglyphic Being on a record or a flyer, but there's a good chance it'll be some of the best, most jacking house you've ever heard. Jamal Moss embodies the the spirit—and the past, present and future—of Chicago's house music scene, but he also carries the torch for Afrofuturism, free jazz and avant-garde music. He follows in the footsteps of important figures like Sun Ra and Ron Hardy, his work blending these traditions with a healthy dose of post-punk, too. 

For over two decades, Moss's Mathematics Recordings label has been one of the premiere sources of raw, analogue house music, helping put producers like John Heckle on the map. He has a sprawling solo discography, encompassing projects like I.B.M., Members Only and The Sun God. He also put out one of our favourite albums last year with Thank U 4 The Tracks U Lost, released on Modern Love under his given name.

Live, Moss usually jams on a few pieces of gear, to fantastic and sometimes bewildering effect. This RA Podcast is a two-hour recording of a live set from public records in New York. It features all the raw, powerful house music you'd expect—made with two iPads and a MIDI controller—but it's also loaded with gorgeous, ghostly melodies and an opening section that touches on trance, trip-hop and '90s electronica. This is a rare live recording that captures a genius at work.
