Hot on the heels from releases on Ivan Smagghe’s Les Disques De La Mort and Cormac’s Polari; Zillas on Acid prepare their debut EP for Jordan Nocturne's Belfast based label, featuring three impressive acid-drenched cuts and a stellar remix from Vanessa Worm - an artist whose impressive debut album on Optimo Music was one of the stand-out releases of 2020.

The clue’s in the name, and while acid may be the centerpiece of the EP, each track varies in sonic sensibility as we delve deeper into the duo's futuristic sound palette.

Title track Sorry I Was In VR is a serotonin-boosting chugger with earwriggle synth stabs that highlight the pair's ear for melody, while From Afar - futuristic and bold - blends other-worldly sounds with brooding percussion. Vanessa Worm's rendition goes back to basics with a muscular drum-led approach; punchy kicks and bouncy aesthetics churning out a hypnotic wobbler that highlights the euphoria that can be discovered in simplicity.

He Wasn't Afraid... is a downtempo voyage drawn in distinct and vivid colour. Deep bass notes and twangling synths hang in dark space while an acid arpeggio glides through the twinkling vortex. “He wasn’t afraid” cries out in the distance, giving us the push to move forward, one step at a time.

Nocturne has a holistic approach to each release - combining art, music and meaning at every turn. With its roots firmly planted in Belfast and one eye on the rest of the world - 2021 is set to be a busy year for the young forward-thinking imprint.

Nothing seemed to work; she'd tried every suggestion under the sun — medicinal, herbal, holistic... the list went on. Though a few of these familiar and strange remedies had brought momentary relief, it wasn't long before the pain returned in full force. There was just one more option that she had yet to explore, but with this healing power came much risk...

Drawing influence from the uncertain times we've found ourselves in over the last year, Logical Rec bosses Ivan De La Rouch & Mike Sacchetti release their 'Cúrame' EP, which translates from Spanish as ‘Heal Me’. Coming via Play Pal Records, it marks the pair's first outing on the Madrid label and sees them merge hypnotic guitar riffs with analogue electronics, all delivered with a punk attitude. On the flip the two originals get the rework treatment from label affiliate Rigopolar, Italian producer Amarcord, Fucanglong Files boss Mufti and Berlin's Skelesys.

Life had become nomadic; they travelled from place to place, finding shelter for a day or two before moving on to new climes. It wasn't the life they'd chosen for themselves, but they had no choice in the matter. This existence had been forced upon them by powers far much greater than their own; now their only mission was finding a safe space to inhabit.

Milanese label Nothing Is Real took a brief interlude from showcasing what Italy's fertile music scene has to offer with their 'Made In Mexico' compilation earlier this year, and now they return their attention to their stomping ground through the sounds of Gabriele Lori, aka Astroloop. Marking his debut solo outing, following collaborations on Freerange Records, the three original tracks touch on several sonic influences—from hypnotic house to mid-tempo grooves and driving synthwave—and are bolstered by a remix from Mexican producers Theus Mago and Moisees.

"Benedikt Frey and Naia d’Alò's Init project received great initial praise through two well conceived pieces for John Talabot's Hivern disco back in 2015. Now the pair are back on Les Disques De La Mort with a four track EP rich with their moody techno delights.

"Stereometric" sees a swollen electric base gently plume as ghostly vox and slowly eroding artefacts are scattered through the mix; landing somewhere between Bay Area minimal wave and the taut techno meanderings of Marcel Dettman. 

"Nuts" is an anthemic slice of darkwave electro; tense, a little bit menacing and cinematic as hell - conjuring images of late night mutant car chases through guttural cityscapes. 

"Wheels" sees us dive down smacked-out electro-post-punk rabbit hole; landing in a drug stained bedsit around Hulme Crescents circa '89 with next doors party still in full swing two days since it began. 

"Mindwork" invites said neighboring crusties to an all-night post-Goa-trance rave up on some moonlit beach and populated by shady drug dealers and Mad Max type characters all locked into its full-throttle stomp. "

Daniel Monaco is whispering on the track, the tune is very carefully produced by the duo.
 
A deep warm yet cold and sharp feeling is running thru the whole track both results of Futuristant sound design skills and Monaco’s synths touch.
