You may have stumbled across @jonasfriedlich ’s debut solo 12”, a thrillingly forthright collection of hardware workouts that slipped out, unheralded, on Molten Moods late last year. Title track “Smartphonejungle”, where short bursts of junglist energy puncture another intoxicating, post-apocalyptic throb-job. It’s acid, but not as we know it. The classroom roared with laughter as the announcement was made. In the corner of the room the teacher watched on with a sense of thoughtful poignancy. Lou had finally beaten Sou and the schoolchildren were delighted by the result. It wasn't often that the class clown received their comeuppance. Often their dominance was what scared and inspired other children into laughter. Now, with a bashful look upon his face Lou walked slowly back to his chair to reflect on the loss. The teacher sighed. 

Leon Revol is set to release a new EP on Beats Of No Nation. It will be the fourth in their catalogue and comes from the24 year old Bordeaux based producer who has previously released music on the likes of Kolour, Secret Reels, Future Disco, and Monologues.

She was left alone once again, in the empty house surrounded by the walls that haunted and twisted between them. There was little left in her heart, she just wished that she could see him sometimes. Perhaps it was supposed to be this way, distant and sad. She sat at the table and watched the outside world float by through the glass. 

Tilman returns to release on Klamauk for the second time. He brings with him his golden take on deep house and orchestrates a careful assortment of charmed pads and samples.

Despite It All

He knew what she was thinking about as she paraded boldly across the room. Her provocative nature had always been one to entice suspicion and interest. It were as if a vast audience were observing her long legs march with power and eerie stealth. She knew, he knew and I know. The music began to play even louder in the basement as she began to dance. It was an elegant, slow moving feat which left little to the imagination. This was not what she had dreamt of but by heavens was she good. 

Hubie Davison appears on Needs, a new not for profits record label founded by Bobby Pleasure. The proceeds of the first release will go to mental health charity Mind.

The call of the night welcomed her home. She had ran for thousands of miles by day across the dandy dunes and the grassy plains but something always ensured she returned to her place of rest. "Ducue" echoed out across the night as the stars sparkled in a hazy glow up above. The sky was a pitch, deep black but it was not threatening like it once had been. Now it was still, peaceful and dreamy. Half the world was asleep whilst another roared and rioted. This was far away. 

Love Letters is an artist whom we have supported previously on Ransom Note, an interesting up and comer with a distinct sound reminiscent of the days when house was... better. Yeah, we said it. Anyway, here is a new track on Yield Records, listen to "Ducue".

Hackney-based post-punk outfit @aathenss were formed in late 2015, their early rehearsals taking place in the basement of Kingsland Road's now-defunct DIY space Power Lunches which closed shortly afterwards. That dark, sweaty, hallucinatory basement was where I first witnessed the band's incendiary live show, which bristles with tightly-wound energy.

Now, Aathens are releasing their debut album 'Virtue Signal' on East London imprint @blank-editions, and we're premiering the record's first track, 'Idiot Thing'. The taut, spindly guitar lines and acrobatic rhythm section call to mind a cross between Television and the Minutemen - and it's just the tip of the iceberg on an album which announces Aathens as one of the most exciting and substantial guitar groups in the UK right now.

Bad Tracking are a duo from Bristol, the latest project to emerge out of the industrious DIY hustle affiliated with Studio Tape Echo, rwdfwd and an array of associated labels run by Alex Digard and Daniel Davies aka Ossia. The second release on Digard’s own Mechanical Reproductions imprint after the sub-bass crossfire and detonative drum workouts of Via Maris, this release comes as a strong distillation of a boisterous live show that allegedly features all manner of lewd actions, including, thankfully, some obligatory full frontal for the pervs.

On ‘XP-3’ however there are shades of unexpected sublimation forming a signature balanced between hedonism and introspection. There’s plenty of heavy manners in the brute soundsystem discord that dominates proceedings – all crude, chattering percussion and industrial dub treatments – but the climactic and memorable element comes in the form of a purified ambient glow that suggests a clean break of euphoria as much as losing your mind with your head in the bass bin. If Shackleton’s ‘Soundboy Punishments’ were to have met the ‘Endless Summer’ of Fennesz, perhaps it would have sounded something like this.

Molten Moods releases another finely curated various artists record with tracks by Skee Mask, Kessel Vale, Jonas Yamer and Konrad Wehrmeister. Kessel Vales opening track "Voguing Geisha" is an unconventional breakbeat masterpiece following his sense of harmony and rhythm already shown through previous releases on Tanstaafl Records and Rhythm Nation. As the track unfolds it reveals musical storytelling by integrating a technoid polyrhythmic loop structure into melodic synth figures, slowly deconstructing in the end. Skee Mask collaborated with Molten Moods labelhead and Carl Gari member Jonas Yamer on "Fanta Ocean", it being the first release outside of his Ilian Tape homebase. The outcome is a moody IDM piece with cinematic qualities, complex but soothing. The B-Side begins with "Xenomorph" by Konrad Wehrmeister, who is known by his releases on Public Possession and SVS Records. This trancy yet distorted and detailed electro banger surely takes on the role of the records dancefloor highlight. The closing track "Insgeheim" is delivered by Molten Moods head honcho Jonas Yamer. Here groovy kicks, distorted chords and a psychedelic pad are woven into one compelling 10 am techno track. The common thread of Molten Moods 4 is four young Munich artists going on a joint trip into idiosyncratic electronic music. The resulting tracks intertwine as one modern and diverse techno record. Out on 12" vinyl and wav by the end of March 2018. Mastered by Manmade. In the tradition of Molten Moods' cost-conscious design strategies by Paul Bernhard, the record comes with a xeroxed low budget sticker set.
