Rome-based producer A-Tweed lands on our sub-label Human Endeavour with a four-track EP of hypnotic, leftfield chuggers. Well known for his cocktail of crawling, lysergic beats and low slung acid mutations, the Italian producer follows outings for labels like TRESOR, Multi Culti and Hard Fist, with the wonky, tripped-out rhythms of ‘Riot Disco Punk’.

Shunning conventional dancefloor tropes, A-Tweed brings his signature punk attitude to this self-proclaimed “personal musical riot”, launching with ‘Kabuki Spin’, a steady beat awash with reverberating synths and whispered vocals that take us out of reality. 

The off kilter wonk of the title track follows with a smattering of bleeps, bloops, crunches and vocal stabs, setting the scene for the intoxicating, skewed rhythms of ‘Akira Danse!’ and psychedelic tribal beats of ‘Dusty Rumble Fish’; each track serving as a reminder that it's always more fun to colour outside of the lines.

Opening proceedings is the Acid tinged Just One, a masterclass in making people dance at under 80bpm. Achingly gorgeous polysynth chords rain down, hovering like a film overhead the saturated 303 line that wobbles along in the low end. First single On The Nose enters next, with a delightfully soft, round bass that feels like bouncing around a padded room. Inside a Zorb. On MDMA. More echoed, analogue motifs dart from left to right, confirming with strong conviction that our chaps from Paris put the Dub in Indubitably Fantastic.

Digital Pond closes side A of the 12”, a low slung, nonchalant piece of mood music. Idiosyncratically “French” , brittle chords piece the sound stage, evoking past Italo Disco spaces, but remaining conscientiously chug-dubbed out. Second single Control (Special Mix) opens side B… with a capital B. For Banger. Another Space Echo heavy workout in the lower frequencies of the audio spectrum, this is testament to the old adage that less is often, a hell of a lot more (to paraphrase).

The titular Tears Maker glides into view next, with its frantic 808 patterns and spacey melodica, setting the scene for the majesty to follow. This epically proportioned tune is probably going to be a little passe come the end of summer, because it’s going to be played at festivals the world over relentlessly. Be warned! Finally Terri’s Dub brings matters to a close, with its angular, stands and woozy vocals, we’re given the space and tie to contemplate what has just happened to us on two mere sides of vinyl.

PREMIERE: FROID DUB - Tears Maker [Ransom Note Records]

'Pixel Rain' marks the debut release from Moscow-based musician Dima Safronov, originally hailing from Bryansk. Dima brings fourteen years of DJ experience on his shoulders, he has organized numerous parties, and he's also curator of 5/8 Radio, a music station he founded eight years ago.

'Pixel Rain' doesn't aim to be conceptual, but rather captures the mood of a specific moment, capable of sending listeners drifting along waves of memory. Four compositions feel like brief flashes of emotional impulses, joined together to form a unified whole. Two original tracks (including the title track, created in collaboration with Safronov’s close friend robsn), seamlessly flow into two dance-oriented remixes, each reflecting and reinterpreting the mood of their originals.

The opening track - 'Pixel Rain' immediately immerses the listener in a world of rich and soft digital textures, delicate rhythms, and subtle sonic architecture. The music is both anxious and pure, like raindrops trickling down an evening windowpane. The second track - 'Shinichi Atobe, I am Your Son' is imbued with a dense, sun-drenched melancholy that unfolds gradually and unhurriedly, through an elegant counterpoint between a deep dub-inflected bassline and a ghostly, mist-like melody in the upper register.

The second half of the release shifts the emotional landscape into a dance music setting.
robsn transforms the pensive soundscape of 'Shinichi Atobe, I am Your Son' into an airy, self-assured anthem, one that’s easy to imagine echoing through the early hours of a large open-air rave. The final remix by Dima Studitsky darkens the overall palette, making the rhythm more insistent and imbuing the music with a distinct nighttime energy.

'Pixel Rain' is a story told in the language of electronic music, crafted with attention and love for fleeting emotional states that are never meant to return.

The album is released by Elephant Gait Music, a Spanish label based in Gran Canaria that specializes in visionary electronic music resistant to easy genre classification.
