Following releases on E-Beamz, Natural Sciences, and Who’s Susan, the German-based DJ Swagger returns to Nerang after appearing on the label’s ‘Freaky Friends Volume 1’ compilation earlier this year, bringing yet another bout of high quality, high energy output to the table.
Merging influences from Dance Mania through to UK Garage, ‘Bass Hysteria’ sees the DJ Swagger at the top of his game. 
‘Atomic Fear’ galvanizes the pure energy of early DJ Funk, with air raid sirens and glitched out hi-hats punctuated throughout, while ‘Drybones’ nods towards early dubstep and UK flavours, with gurgling basslines and skippy drums bubbling throughout as occasional glimmers of
gorgeous synth work allow the listener to come up for air.
‘Trail of Destruction’ encapsulates golden age electro, with effected vocals, crisp percussion, and gritty basslines coming together for a late night groover. 
‘Noseblunt’ is a fast-paced whirlwind, aimed for fog-filled dance floors, perfectly wrapping up the eleventh release on a label pushing diverse sounds from artists around the world.

Ritmos tribales y vocales hipnóticos combinados con melodías celestiales nos invitan desde un comienzo a adentrarnos en un viaje tanto melódico como psicodélico.

Gizmo is the first EP from London based argentinean DJ and producer. The 3-track EP is clearly dance-floor oriented. As soon as you immerse yourself in the first track you will immediately feel the influence of nature on Blixa’s sound palette and his passion for generating dense and vibrant atmospheres. Tribal percussions and ritual-like vocals blended with celestial melodies will invite you to get on a trip that is as melodic as psychedelic.

London producer Slacker’s rise has been steady. First announcing himself to the scene with the flurry of wonderful SoundCloud uploads, the producer has since released on Lobster Theremin and his own co-owned Pseudonym Records, winning critical acclaim from publications such as Resident Advisor and Ransom Note, and support from fellow exciting up-and-comers such as Otik (on Midland’s InterGraded label) and tastemakers such as Berlin based selector CCL.

The title track is a hard cut of malfunctioning electro; frantic, screwface energy designed for small spaces with no windows, while ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ is a brooding, chugging cut of psychedelic dub-techno; something you might have heard Andrew Weatherall or David Holmes playing in the nineties. 

‘Mezcal’ sees the artist venture into newer, faster-paced territories as Slacker incorporates a Chicago juke aesthetic; sensationally bouncy, incredibly fun and captivatingly energetic, with just enough electro flavour for those who lack the ability to footwork to continue to dance. 

Rounding off the release is the most quintessential Slacker track on there - ‘Prototype’ - a cut of acid dipped, in-your-face electro; raw and uncompromising.

Also featuring on the record is digi-only track ‘Sacrifice of the Self’.

OS Premiere: Ronan - En La Malla [Eternal Ocean]

Adam BFD first burst onto the scene with his colourful, emotive driven productions; making a name for himself as an artist bridging the gap between electro, breaks and house. Now based in Paris, his work continues to put a nostalgic and animated spin on his far-reaching influences, from London to Mexico City and beyond. In the time since Adam’s introduction a series of singles and a recent EP on Running Out of Steam has seen the musician further refine and develop his sonic palette and Embrace coming by way of Distant Horizons is no exception. The five track EP covers many life cycles and no matter how mature, Adam’s tracks never lose the ability to make people move. 

Adam starts by embracing the unknown in Le Voyage with its frenetic breaks and glistening melodies opening up a pathway to the stars, before space opens and time resides in Flotus; a special heart-searching moment, balanced by springly, danceable grooves. I Mean It gently unravels with tangible percussion and daydreaming textures, vocal loops becoming increasingly hypnotic as time stands still. 

It’s not just Adams pacing that’s impressive, but his ability to turn real world sounds into fully functional elements heard in title track Embrace. Water moves freely over tightly packed drums and arpeggiated synths; a piece of tranquility ready when needed. Which Gate follows with pensive field recordings and cloud-formations; jerking breaks leaping back and forth in another special EP from a producer just getting started.

Polyrhythmic percussion taken from the Glasgow duo's debut solo LP on Hong Kong-based imprint 宀 or 'Mihn'.

The trees taunted the wind, swaying sarcastically as it did everything in its power to dismantle them. Their underbellies exposed, the leaves stood erect and looked like little tongues sticking out. This is a battle they'd fought many times before and today it came right on cue. This time they would lose a few troops but their roots would maintain solid so as to prove their endurance. Now, each branch is a trophy.

'Hypopompic' is taken from General Ludd's third release on a Hong Kong label. The eponymously titled album comes four years after their last solo release on Rub A Dub records and continues the duo's focus on razor-sharp sound design and textural complexity. With an otherworldly remix from Shanghai's Laughing Ears, the album leaves little time for respite with 9 hard-hitting tracks exploring the abstraction of rhythm and genre.

The track takes its rhythm from the rattle of two complex drum patterns which compete from either side of surface level: one sharper and more tangible and the other submerged in water, doused in reverb. Delivering themselves at full force in a competitive yet playful exchange, their dialogue makes for incredible complexity and dynamism and is an irresistible tease of what to expect of the full release early next month.

As the weekend approached, the anticipation of the activities that would soon ensue began to take over. For 48 hours, there would be no mention of work, no thoughts of the daily responsibilities that came with it, only freedom mattered, and they were going to take advantage of every single moment. The club was the destination, a place to escape the outside world. When they descended down those stairs and into the darkness, they knew they'd never want to leave.

Roy Mills launched his Local Knowledge label, as a platform to celebrate community and club culture, towards the end of September 2020 and since then he's welcomed Hed Ardennes for an EP and a slew of artists for a charity compilation. Now, following appearances on Room II Records, Pressure Dome and Elkka’s femme culture, he takes care of the third release on the imprint with three tracks aimed to be played at different times in the club. From intricate drum patterns and hypnotic bass lines to off kilter percussion and meticulous sound design, the EP demonstrates Roy's knack for capturing different moods and feelings, whilst saluting the thrill of clubland.
