London producer Slacker’s rise has been steady. First announcing himself to the scene with the flurry of wonderful SoundCloud uploads, the producer has since released on Lobster Theremin and his own co-owned Pseudonym Records, winning critical acclaim from publications such as Resident Advisor and Ransom Note, and support from fellow exciting up-and-comers such as Otik (on Midland’s InterGraded label) and tastemakers such as Berlin based selector CCL.

The title track is a hard cut of malfunctioning electro; frantic, screwface energy designed for small spaces with no windows, while ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ is a brooding, chugging cut of psychedelic dub-techno; something you might have heard Andrew Weatherall or David Holmes playing in the nineties. 

‘Mezcal’ sees the artist venture into newer, faster-paced territories as Slacker incorporates a Chicago juke aesthetic; sensationally bouncy, incredibly fun and captivatingly energetic, with just enough electro flavour for those who lack the ability to footwork to continue to dance. 

Rounding off the release is the most quintessential Slacker track on there - ‘Prototype’ - a cut of acid dipped, in-your-face electro; raw and uncompromising.

Also featuring on the record is digi-only track ‘Sacrifice of the Self’.

Acid Waxa are thrilled to embark on a new release series with Global Goon, titled Painting With Acid. Published across various formats with inspired artwork from Csenge Csató, Painting With Acid Volume 1 releases this April on limited edition cassette and download via Bandcamp, with more cassette and vinyl editions to follow throughout 2023.

Global Goon (aka Johnny Hawk) is a former shepherd and programmer from Merseyside, U.K. Having moved to London, for a multimedia company in the 90s, he began producing music for fun and as a side hustle while rooming with Richard D James (aka Aphex Twin). Following some encouragement from the man himself, Hawk released his debut album ‘Goon’ on RDJ’s Rephlex imprint in 1996. Rumours that Global Goon was an alias of Aphex Twin, persisted even after the release of Cradle of History and Vatican Nitez. He later formed his own label J-Hok Records, before going on to release more hard-hitting acid tracks with the dancefloor in mind under the Syntheme, alias for Planet Mu and WeMe Records. The Painting With Acid series on Acid Waxa continues in the same vein, while also delving into experimental soundscapes and more downtempo ambient numbers, reminiscent of Goon’s earlier tracks for Rephlex.

Juno's review : "Having established notoriety for his live hardware-based sets, Ben Pest's latest electro cut, 'Robotic Sales', out on Brighton-based label, Orson, sees the incredible energy of his live sets made flesh - or vinyl, at least. Opening track, 'Robotic Sales' (Acid Redux) kicks the EP off to a flying start. The perfect balance of blistering acid pads and powerful electro percussion, the roboticised vocal sample, paired with 80s-esque synths gives this an undoubtedly classic feel. By contrast, the relatively pared back 'Wobbly Eggs' explores a clever inversion of the typical dance track structure, with key melodic components emerging in the breakdown and disappearing out of view when the main body of the track returns. 'Beefcase', the most acid-heavy track on the release, is a guaranteed floor-filler while the final track, 'Charizard Dream', is perfect for those moments of peak-time, out-of-your-body elation. A seriously strong EP from Ben Pest."
