Eagles & Butterflies - We Get High Feat. J.U.D.G.E. (Henry Saiz Remix)

August 8th sees Intec’s esteemed label co-heads Carl Cox and Jon Rundell both put their own unique spin on Josh Wink’s illustrious 2014 hit ‘Talking To You’, distributed via the aforementioned imprint.

This impressive two-track offering follows a whole host high quality 2016 Intec releases including the Beatport chart topping ‘Intec 100’, which last saw Carl and Jon team up to deliver a release well worthy of its billing. 

Carl Cox’s interpretation commences the release, boasting the original’s ‘I’m Talking To You’ vocal sample set to a driving Tech House rhythm with a looped-up manipulated chord riff and an abundance of squelchy acid bleeps. 

Jon Rundell’s re-work follows and ventures down more of a darker Techno route, utilising the original’s vocal sample and acidline but adding a pounding TR-909-laden groove, sinister sound effects and a clever arrangement.   

You can catch the Ovum Records label boss Josh Wink perform alongside Carl at his final ever season at Space Ibiza (every Tuesday until September 20th) on August 16th.  

‘Talking To You’ (Carl Cox & Jon Rundell Remixes) is available exclusively via Beatport from August 8th and everywhere else two weeks later.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, in his teenage years Mike quickly became infatuated with electronic music. It was the likes of Cassius, Daft Punk and DJ Falcon that pulled him towards the French House realm. The uplifting melodies and funk driven bass lines inspired him to dive in to audio production for himself. Through his work ethic and passion for the craft, Mike powered through a few other genres before arriving at his true love: dirty, gritty, Tech House. The trademark French filtered break downs remained, but today are accompanied by bass heavy and filth covered beats. His credo: "if they move, they approve", allow for some pretty straightforward 4x4 productions.

Fernando Pulichino is no stranger to Leng Records. The bass guitar-wielding Argentine made his first appearance on the label five years ago via the cosmic disco/psychedelic rock fusion of Blue Impala, returning two years later with the similarly inclined brilliance of Giant Desert. Pulichino then resurfaced on Leng late last year with a superb, digital-only three-tracker called Natural 77.

Now he’s back on wax, buoyed by the success of the acclaimed Shining EP on Is It Balearic? Recordings. This time round he’s in Search of Indigo, shaping hazy, sun-baked soundscapes around his distinctive basslines, echo-laden synthesizers, meandering Fender Rhodes solos, gentle dub vibrations and glistening, early morning jazz guitars. This is music for the heads, hips and feet, soaked in Fernet and left in the afternoon sun to slowly ripen.

Arguably the most arresting of the four cuts is the title track, a head-in-the-clouds vocal number rich in bubbly electronic riffs, laidback electro beats, ricocheting percussion hits, swirling wind effects and rubbery funk-rock bass.

Pulichino’s penchant for intergalactic disco shufflers once again comes to the fore on killer “Sundown Visions”, a saucer-eyed chugger that simultaneously throbs, pulses and sparkles thanks to sparring synthesizer motifs and eyes-closed space rock guitars. We suspect Daniele Baldelli and Andrew Weatherall would approve.

Elsewhere, Pulichino indulges his passion for sofa-surfing jazz-funk on solo-laden EP closer “Frontera”, a relaxed and undulating jam rich in cascading electric guitars, fluid electric piano, delay-laden flourishes and deep space synthesizers. You won’t know whether to lie down, dance enthusiastically or wearily shuffle; either way, play at sunrise or sundown for maximum enjoyment.

The EP also boasts a first vinyl outing for the title track of last year’s digital-only EP, “Natural ‘77”. Seemingly partly inspired by legendary West Coast funkateers Steely Dan, it’s a lazy, low-slung affair full of languid guitar solos, freestyle vocal improvisations, bongo-laden drums and one of his most inspired and elastic basslines to date.

The car raced towards the finish line at a hurtling pace. In pursuit there was a squadron of motors parading proudly in the wake of the smoke trail which blazed up high amidst the sky. Burning rubber lingered in the air and the crowd of spectators watched on in awe at the sheer speed and scale of the display. Some had disputed the validity of the race, some had even claimed that the sport was for suckers and cheats. What did they know about speed anyway? This was it. 

Dormir are an Australian group from Melbourne, they are set to release a new EP on Pelvis Records & Burning Rose, new wave, dream like electronics with a sense of nostalgia. The EP is rounded off by two remixes by both Cop Envy and Leo James. It is the first which we bring to you today.

The computer screen flashed abruptly and the light went out beneath the thick dense glass. The old machine had potentially blown its fuse for the day but there was still significant hope that the track might not have been lost to the depths of the ether. Vanishing into thin air it had the potential to revitalise itself from the beyond. Reloading the machine there was little hope or life in the old box, the tin can rattled beneath the desk as his foot tapped abruptly upon the floor. 

Now here's a secretive one, an unknown artist with an unknown track. Discodromo however are familiar faces, the pair behind Cocktail d'Amore remix the mysterious alias on Me Me Me.

The machinery was piled high inside cardboard boxes which towered high towards the ceiling. The warehouse was a place of militant storage and not somewhere expected to be of any sort of interest to the outside world. At least so he thought... Inside however, there was a playhouse, a fortress of solitude by which nobody else knew of. The palace of Xenon was his big time place of fun and after dark once all the staff had gone he was quite simply left to his own devices. He was the king of the castle. 

Ludwig A.F. Röhrscheid is set to release a new EP on Exo Recordings on the 19th of February next month. A wonderful blend of elegant electronics, blissful pads and tricky rhythms.

Sitting upon a sunbed he looked out at the peaceful world and took a drink from his tall glass of coco loco. The cold moisture which stuck to the side of the glass felt icy and  chilled to the touch, the sand in between his toes rustled below. The sun was scorching hot and the heat was almost too much to bare, retreating into the shade he lay down and closed his eyes.

The sky was exceptionally dark but for the faint dim glow of the distant moon. It was not as bright as it might have been on another evening but for the clouds had restricted the view and hindered plain sight. There was no a star to be seen beneath the haze of the midnight hour as it had spent most of the day raining with little pause. He couldn't remember the last time it had been anything but damp, the ground was laden with water and the puddles were deeply entrenched. 

Odd Beholder have intrigued and captured the imagination as of late. The/Das have remained consistently impressive and their recent album on Life And Death was distinctive and inspired.
