After three years of throwing parties, the Berlin based event series collective was thrilled to announce something they have been dreaming of for a while now, the launch of new label and the first Awkwardly Social record release.
Similar to events and mix series, their goal is to use the label as a platform for exciting, up and coming artists from within closest community and beyond. Working together with a good friend, the very talented Greek-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer Aroent therefore was a real pleasure for the label guys.

PREMIERE #1119 | Aroent - Smomber [Awkwardly Social] 2020

The computer screens flickered, omitting a bright glow that lit the small dark room. Shoulder to shoulder smartly dressed men sat hovered over the screens, intently watching the information that shot across the screen in a rapid bursts. Illegible code and indecipherable numbers; blink and you'd miss it. From the outside, little was known about the operations taking place in this building. Many speculated but all were too afraid to ask...

Under his Pleasure Model alias, Bristol born producer and film composer Antoni Maiovvi explores his love of wave, synth and Italo disco. Having previously released an EP and two albums for Budapest's Dalmata Daniel, he now makes a return to the label ahead of his new LP on 100% Silk, delivering a four tracker titled Update 2.1. Written during a period spent living in The Hague, the release is a batch of freaky Italo jams, complete with weighty drums and soaring synths.

Liquid fell from the sky in small droplets, each raindrop was multi coloured and sweet to taste upon the tongue. Delicate and moist they were a blessing from above, fruit pastel acid which was sent from the heavens like a radiant kaleidoscope of liquid fluorescence. The night was young, his dreams were wild as he careered amidst the city streets in search of his next adventure. Who knew where he might end up come morning, perhaps by then his fears would be long gone. 

Miss Represented is set to release a new EP via Edinburgh based record label Paradise Palms. A slow moving acid tinged affair for heads down dancers.

Embarking the train to her destination she felt a pang of nerves, her belly churned frantically. After months of virtual back and forth, she'd built this face to face meeting up in her head, playing out all possible scenarios over and over. In her mind everything depended on this going well, she'd already decided this was her last chance.

Eltron's Dom Trojga imprint shares a sentiment about this year that will ring true with many: "despite it all, it was music that kept us going, that held us together while we were apart, that lit our hope, that coloured our days." In that spirit, for their fifth release they've brought together some friends and label artists, past, present and future, for their second V/A in the Domownicy Różnoracy series. Eltron's fellow Seltron 400 member SLG is back again for volume 2, and this time he's joined by several other talents from Poland's electronic music scene; jamaszka_FT, Evius, Botanica, and two debuts on the label from We Are Radar co-founder Olivia and Szum boss Charlie.

Chicago Jack tracks and subterranean electro flow through the newest Rough Cuts 03 like smooth sine waves by Konerytmi. What makes this Kalevala EP so pumping is the Finland-based producer aka Kirill Junolainen ability to blend these familiar regions of Detroit electro and Chicago house into reimagined worlds of futuristic club bangers. As the founder of multiple labels (Lasergum Records, Dvatri Records ), Konerytmi flexes his experience and versatility with style and depth across this 6-track diaspora for the Berlin-based label Too Rough 4 Radio.

This mini LP is an explicit message from Lustpoderosa's sonic continuum. These 7 tracks show the deep connection of Marlene Starks' work as a writer and an artist to her role as mother and DJ in times when there is an urgent need to dismantle the patriarchy in our society and rave culture. Marlene Stark is telling us much more than a great musical story with the symbolic title “Hyäne”. Marlene wants to direct our attention to a reviled creature while she refects on its literary and symbolic meanings. Although hyenas live in a matriarchal society, its transmutation can be perceived as the ongoing struggle of the non-male body in an androcentric world view. Marlene Starks reinterprets the fgure of the hyena in a very poetic, self-ironical and honest way, as shown in the tracks ‘Hungry As a Hunter’, 'Hyäne’ and ‘Language Of Old Woman’. It's a neo-ceremonial call to rethink established structures without missing out the turbulent landscape of today's politics. From early trip-hop to post-rave elements, Stark combines her sonic adventures with an impressively nonchalant and colloquial vocabulary. Her voice, as well as the voice of guest singer Stefanie Mader, achieves a remarkable vocal structure that goes beyond the mainstream. This is the contemporary body music for the next generation.

INDEX:Records presents its four year retrospective, as INDEX:Vol.3 - a collection of stylistically unique tracks that come together to form a cohesive anthology. The 14 track compilation features a diverse set of artists from all over the globe (Incl. Berlin, Manchester, Auckland, New York, London, Barcelona, Preston and Belgrade,) that have been fundamental and/or inspirational to the label’s artistic development.

OTOMATT is an audio-visual trio based in Manchester consisting of Aleksander Brayanov, David Pani and Fred d'Emilia. A project that explores the symbiosis between real and virtual, making use of electronics for sound and image production.

Obviously, my selection for a gloomy disco and made me grateful that Italo Moderni reached me out to make this mixtape. Synth music has always been a fine baseline for me, can be perky, moody and individual at once or totally the opposite.
