Insult To Injury head honcho, Timothy Clerkin, returns to the Ransom Note Records sub-label with four Acid-infused slices of analogue vulgarity, aimed squarely at the newly opened dance floors!

We kick off with the eponymous Plasticity; beginning as a fun, bouncy, Acid number, the vortex soon opens up before us & we’re sucked into a black hole of sound, where time & space is stretched to its limits, disorienting all those who enter. However, we’re spat safely out the other side, landing on luscious bed of warm analogue synthesis, towards home.

Lead single from the EP, Would? is a collaboration with ITI alumni, Buran. Created remotely during lockdown, this reinterpretation of the classic 90’s Alice In Chains anthem has aggressive 909’s thumping & distorted 303’s squelching, as the guitar riffs & vocal melodies of the original are replayed for the club. All proceeds from this single will be going to Mind UK, in tribute to Alice In Chains singer, Layne Staley, who sadly died of an overdose in 2002.

Mercurial is so called due to its ever changing direction: a hard one to attribute to any one genre, it was recorded live with four synths and an 808; proof that sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. Order 66 closes us out with a shotgun blast of Hardcore / Breaks - a nod to the lofi sampling culture of the early 90’s UK scene, the classic orchestral rave stabs take us back to the golden age of the warehouse party… Whistles at the ready, ravers!

Mijo and Rodion are the perfect couple. They share the love of food, analog synths, cats and live perfomances.

This Ep is a perfect combination of all the things they love and much more. Recording live most of this EP they display a very interesting set of skills that runs trough all the tracks. Looped vocals, deep basses sequences, weird melodies and intense drum beats.

Canadian and Mexican forces are on remix duties. Von Party and Iñigo Vontier are also food lovers that with their dise project "Salsa FIngers" give a delicious turn to "Criminal" that is full of psyichedelia and a lot of spicy Salsa.

Performing only live shows, Idolos Futuros have been playing all around Mexico for the last years and we are proud to be the first label to release a litle of the music they have been doing during those intense perfomances.

We have something special for our next release. Mickey Dagger, who previously released a track on our Spiral compilation, sent us a whole EP jam-packed with incredible remixes. 

For his cover of the ‘80s kitsch track "I Want To Be A Cowboy,” he adds his signature dark and slightly sarcastic spin.
On the remix side, we have Antoni Maiovvi, who did a big room mix, Thomas Von Party, who made a breaky one, Ortrotasce, who contributed an old-school industrial/EBM version, and label head Facets, who was convinced by Mickey to provide his own take.

All the proceeds will be going to ISKWEU Project an indigenous women's shelter in Canada.

Her brow furrowed as she narrowed her eyes and studied the lines on his face. He surveyed the creases around his eyes, the way his mouth turned at the corners and his eyes glazed over. The face that had stared back at her for the last 30 years. She’d always been able to read his expression but things had changed - he’d changed. From one day to the next his temperament was different; at times she felt as though she no longer recognised him, as though he were a stranger in her home. 

It’s been a little while since Timothy Clerkin took centre stage on his own Insult To Injury imprint, one of our very own RSN sub-labels. A certified collection of club tackle, the four acid-driven tracks on ‘Plasticity’ are a firm reminder that dance floors are very much back in action. Kicking off with the morphing acidic title track, the EP then brings a tribute to Alice In Chains - a reinterpretation of classic anthem ‘Would?’ alongside Buran, of which proceeds from the single will be donated to Mind UK - before the stripped back 808-laced ‘Mercurial’ lands and the rave-indebted hardcore of ‘Order 66’ rounds off proceedings.

Leng Records has long admired Andrew Meecham’s work as The Emperor Machine. Last year, Meecham made his first appearance on the label via a fine remix of Harks & Mudd favourite ‘Susta’. 12 months on, Meecham returns to Leng with his first Emperor Machine outing of 2021, a typically eccentric, heavily electronic dancefloor outing featuring the seductive vocals of rising star Séverine Mouletin.

Meecham is one of British dance music’s most experienced and lauded producers, with a packed history stretching right back to the acid house era. He first rose to fame as part of Bizarre Inc and Chicken Lips (both alongside long-term studio partner Dean Meredith), but over the last two decades has devoted far more time to solo work as The Emperor Machine. In the process, he’s developed a sparse, hypnotic, heavily electronic trademark sound that combines analogue and modular synthesizer sounds with nods to post-punk disco, new wave, trippy proto-house and the mind-altering experiments of the Radiophonic Workshop.

‘Dance Par Amour’, his first solo single on Leng, is typical of his now familiar personal sonic style, with echoing, alien-sounding synthesizer motifs (some reminiscent of those that marked out Chicken Lips’ club classic ‘He Not In’), with bubbly sequenced bass, unfussy machine drums, rubbery slap-bass riffs and flashes of post-punk disco guitars.

Sparse but weighty and pleasingly trippy, the EP-leading ‘Extended Vocal Mix’ is classic Emperor Machine: a near ten-minute workout in which Mouletin’s tender but confident vocals rise above Meecham’s stylish and note perfect backing track, which sits somewhere between early ‘80s ‘no wave’ New York disco, lo-fi European synth-pop and the trippy late night dancefloor dubs that were once a feature of American boogie and proto-house records.

Meecham further explores his love of these sparse, effects-laden “synth-dubs” on the accompanying ‘Erotique Dub’, a thrillingly heavy, heads-down affair awash with echoing vocal snippets, hypnotic drums and synthesizer flourishes that attractively echo across the sound space. Like the best DJ-focused dubs of the early 1980s, the remix is propelled forwards by a strong bassline, around which other elements – guitar, bass guitar, sparkling synth sounds and mind-mangling electronics – appear, make their mark and then drift off into the ether. With key passages of Mouletin’s vocal appearing periodically to encourage people to dance, it’s the kind of delightfully wayward revision that will keep people dancing well into the early hours.

If you’re an electronic music fan the chances are you’ve heard of The Ransome Note. An online music, arts and culture magazine based out of London at the very forefront of online music communities. 2018 saw birth to a collaborative label between The Ransome Note and Timothy Clerkin in the form of Insult To Injury, with the likes of Rico Cassaza, Dark Circles and Buran in particular releasing some exceptional EP’s on the platform.

Timothy himself has previously graced the label with several of his own releases and ITI#016 continues in that fashion with his Plasticity EP. Analog rich and pumped with nostalgia, the release explores the timeless sounds of the 90’s through warm analog synthesis, iconic driving drums and the squelch of indistinguishable acieeeeed. The opening title track, Plasticity, sets the tone for things to come and eases the listener gently into the soundscape. The second track, Would?, is a collaboration with Buran which was interestingly enough was produced remotely during the lockdown. That fact is the only thing relating this thumper to modern day as a hefty dose of 909 and 303 give essence of a time 30 years ago. Bravo to Buran and Timothy on an amazing reinterpretation of the 90’s Classic ‘Alice In Chains’, with all proceeds of this single donated to the amazing charity, Mind UK.  Closing off the release is a chunk of Hardcore bliss, Order 66. Expect disorder on dancefloors, more so as we begin to see the world slowly open back up once again. Breaks, orchestral stabs and a hefty kick drum... need we say anymore? A true tribute to the greatest decade of music, for dance use only!
