Nikita von Tiraspol the enigmatic DJ, producer and visionary behind Kontrapunkt has formed a distinct sonic identity from the heart of Leipzig, Cologne and Vilnius’s underground. For years, Nikita shaped his ear as a vinyl pressing engineer at r.a.n.d. muzik, a position that immersed him daily in the cutting edge of unreleased music. This job lead to a deeper passion and in 2017 Kontrapunkt was born - a label defying boundaries, weaving through a spectrum of genres from the industrial cadence of techno to the freewheeling spirit of house, tribal rhythms, trance and ambient and breakbeat.

Nikita's own productions reflect this restless exploration, a journey through sound. His discography includes the deeply introspective album Entscheidungen via mystictrax, the evocative album Iki Pasimatymo! released with Noorden, a trippy 3step dance floor remix for MARIA Die RUHE, Ibiza-Mykonos-Carribean made-for beach vibe track Daddy I Want To Go To Bali and a club version of Peperu with Ugandan singer Amah Dripper. Nikita von Tiraspol’s sets are rooted in the genres house, techno and afro house, while seamlessly incorporating touches from all over the world when the moment calls for it. This versatility allows him to adapt to different environments while maintaining a clear, compelling sonic narrative.

We’re premiering Superpitcher’s MAD DECENT 10 minute signature opus of a remix. Cor listen to that bassline on some good cans…
On the flip Pilooski’s turned in a  “big room IDM” belter. But you’ll have to buy the release to get hold of that.

Nestling somewhere between the sideways slant of a sepia Sunday morning and the electrostatic seduction of a Saturday night, Tim has carved out a cultural niche that is his, and his alone. 

Through his label Marketing Music, Tim has spent years pushing out some of the most distinctive and unconventional house records around. His long-standing collaboration with Ivan Smagghe as It’s a Fine Line is a testament to his ongoing hunt for the unexpected – always a step away from the obvious.

His own productions stretch from the fiercely original (It’s a Fine Line – Woman) to the beautifully restrained (Outback, Stones & Vinyl), and his remixes – for the likes of Metronomy, Polo & Pan, The XX, Silicone Soul, Salif Keita, and Telepopmusik – show a producer who never plays it safe.

Off the dancefloor, he’s made just as much noise: over 50 international performances with Belgian choreographer Nicolas Musin, plus work for France TV, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, and the Philharmonie de Paris have all borne his unmistakable sonic fingerprint.

Now, Tim’s back with a new solo release on Live at Robert Johnson – That Boy. A return to the club, yes, but also a reflection of everything he’s soaked up along the way. Rough-edged, refined, and unmistakably Tim Paris.

In his own words, The song “Otdavali Molodu” (“They Gave the Young Bride Away”) is one of the first and most striking hits by the Soviet VIA (Vocal-Instrumental Ensemble) “Ariel,” arranged by Valery Yarushin based on a traditional Russian folk tune. The foundation of the piece is a traditional folk melody, but Yarushin infused it with rock intonations, which gave the ensemble its distinctive and recognizable style. Thanks to this song, Yarushin earned the respect of rock musicians, folk enthusiasts, and even academic audiences.

Why is the song important?

It’s a perfect example of the synthesis between folk motifs and modern musical forms: folklore + rock, an unconventional genre for a VIA. The song captures the spirit of its time, the 1970s, the heyday of Soviet folk rock and a period of musical boldness.

Thanks to this track, “Ariel” transcended the borders of Chelyabinsk and even the USSR, becoming recognized both across Eastern Europe and within the Soviet Union.

“Otdavali Molodu” is not just a hit by “Ariel” — it’s a symbol of an entire era: the beginning of the ensemble’s musical evolution, a successful example of folk-rock fusion, and a song that truly influenced listeners and the development of the Soviet music scene.
