‘Taking the Veil’ is the debut solo album on Kitchen. Label by Berlin-based musician Hior Chronik. Originally from Athens, the new album is a follow-up to his previous work on the label as the duo Pill-Oh in ‘Vanishing Mirror’. The established foundation are intact on ‘Taking the Veil’: the bitterly romantic strings and gentle electronics whisper melting over plaintive piano scores. Hior Chronik has a penchant of producing subtly immense and cinematic compositions which are remarkably chilling in its beauty.

The latest release follows Hior Chronik’s distinctive compositional path with the pairing of a collaborator on each track. This time the instrumental colors are most intimate, honed to evocative perfection with each collaboration bringing its own nuances to a permeable set of motives. Through the contemplative moments, what give it life is the varied scoring which goes from solo piano to string orchestra, opening up a space that shimmers with stirring melancholy. Featuring classically aligned contemporaries such as Field Rotation (Denovali Records), Sophie Hutchings (Preservation), Luup (Experimedia) and Japanese composers Yasushi Yoshida (noble), Yoshinori Takezawa (Schole Records) among many others. The biggest change in this new album is the addition of vocals by Amber Ortolano and Fabiola Sanchez (Familiar Trees) on four songs. Figured centrally in the soundtrack as recurring lyrical voicing, the Amber Ortolano and Hior Chronik pairing also produced a rearranged version of ‘Twice’ originally written by Swedish electronic band Little Dragon.

‘Taking the Veil’ is presented in a 16-page art book format, also featuring the New York based Amber Ortolano as a photographer. The subject in the visual narrative of ‘Taking the Veil’ is of young women imprisoned by their flow of thoughts and their dark imagination. The delicate beauty and ambiguous gestures of feminine protagonists serve as powerful metaphors of the veil as the title of the album reflects – They reveal and conceal all at once, reviving emotions conjured by a sense of mystery. The album underlines this atmosphere that probe the consciousness imbued with burnished hues of something half-remembered and half-dreamed. ‘Taking the Veil’ is the best company for late hours and memory searching in a world of mist and shadows.

Working, living and studying in the city that loves to smoke (or maybe it's just the tourists!), Sidney presents the Edward Said show on Redlight Radio. You can catch him playing an array of records both from his personal collection and taken from the soon-to-be-in-the-bins shop stock. FHUO Records or For Heaven Use Only (@forheavenuseonly-records) is a new record label founded by @Folamour, who is also a co-founder of the widely successful @Moonrise-Hill-Material and a very talented producer in his own right. The forthcoming first release is a various artist EP and is titled "L'Homme ne descend pas du singe mais du bruit” translated to Man didn’t descend from monkeys but from noise. The tagline on the Soundcloud page reads “no informations needed”, which we assume means let the music do the talking.

One of the four tracks on the EP is by fellow MHM co-founder Victor Dijoud aka @kaffecreme, who released Moonrise Hill Material’s highly sought after second record. “Baciami Subito” is proof again that the Lyon based producer and multi-instrumentalist is able to elegantly merge samples with his own sound to create something unique.

The release will be out in November, be sure to add this one to your collection as soon as its available!

The White Tapes EP of new @secretreels features three original tracks by Kian T (@kiantmusic) and a B side remix by Dutch wizard Daniel Leseman (@danielleseman), which we have the pleasure of premiering here today. 

Daniel takes the original, raw vibes of “Flughafen” and flips it on its feet into a clean-cut, sanguine affair. His signature warm chords and brassy synths are front and center, turning the spacey, atmospheric elements and twinkly keys taken from the original into complementary background pieces. A not too busy, club-oriented groove with hand drums, muted cowbells, crisp hats and jazzy rides gives the melodic elements room to breathe and helps solidify the track as one you’re sure to dance to in the near future.

True to form, Tlim Shug sticks to the lo-fi sound that has made him one of the well known names in the now booming trend. A DJ Smokey sampled and looped hip-hop vocal with a simple yet contagious and haunting keyboard melody form the backbone of the track. Low-passed hats and claps paired with crushed toms and snares form the no-frills four on the floor beat while a beefy bassline drives the song. The Fin are an ethereal pop band originating from Japan. This summer saw them release "Through The Deep": now a re-imagined EP sees the likes of The Field, Ten Fe and All We Are step up to remix the group.

Fur Coat return to Crosstown Rebels - the label that launched and empowered them to grow into the major techno force we know today, with their ’Numbers EP, featuring a remix from US native Vin Sol. This is music that keeps you guessing. Initially it appears dark and forceful, and suddenly a sound appears that results in a smile, a warm feeling that only the highest level of production can deliver.

Fur Coat’s schedule is unrelenting. The last couple of months involving a standout set at DGTL Festival, releasing on Watergate Records, remixing Nicole Moudaber & Skin on Mood Records, combined with numerous festival appearances over the Summer. Resident of the popular night Club Lonely in San Francisco, Vin Sol, founded an imprint with the same title earlier this year. A self confessed lover of the drum machine and regularly collaborating with Matrixxman, Sol has previously released on Soo Wavey, Clone Jack for Daze and Delft among others.

Hotflush are proud to introduce an exciting young artist, PYUR, along with her singular debut LP Epoch Sinus. Despite her relative newness, PYUR meets the world with fully formed and unique signatures in both visual and sonic work, revealing a deep artistry that transcends medium.

Growing up in Munich, in and amongst the same fecund scene that spawned artists like the Zenker Brothers and Skee Mask, PYUR cut her teeth from a young age as a guitarist and singer before becoming spellbound by the electronic world’s endless scope for sound design. Endowed with innately strong synaesthesia and reared in a shamanic household, she tells how music “played the biggest role in my growth. It alone had the purpose to help me dissolve boundaries, discover the beauty of life’s mechanisms, create freely. It talked. Soon I felt like the music was making me, not the other way round.”

Epoch Sinus is a seamless and heartfelt whole, a life-like being unto itself, describing the disintegration of barriers between the self and the all. Here PYUR offers an intimate and personal statement, combining knowledge of universal harmony with electronic music. She states: “I'm mainly influenced by my inner visions and nature itself, yet also a lot from club culture, which is undoubtedly an important space of connection and freedom for so many people”. The record dances playfully between supposedly incompatible qualities: moments of brutality turn to softness, new life embraces decomposition, while explosive rhythmic and melodic structures are tempered with gentle and subtle percussion.

The album is accompanied by a video piece for each track, translating the sonic messages into a visual body. Her goal was to show as accurately as possible what she felt during the making process of Epoch Sinus, to put the music into context and make it more accessible for the public. Light, water, reflections and colors of nature all feature strongly in these distinctive visions.

“Music showed me that, in the sweet spot between nothingness and existence, one is empowered to fully understand energetic connections and able to initiate extraordinary transformations through all grids and layers of self. Especially now at this time music has the enormous potential and responsibility to become a transformative entity, providing truthfulness and support.”
