Discern, to be able to distinguish between something or someone.  The main lyric in the song is ‘I can’t discern’ - meaning in the current environment marred in COVID & racial injustice, I am finding it hard to distinguish left from right, right from wrong.  This songs captures my fear, anxiety & anger, the frustration of not being able to discern.

Currently working on a project for my dIploma and for this I needed something to record. Couldn't come up with anything but then I realised that I love this song and The Man In Black, so I ended up with the intro that this is. Really happy with how it's turning out and I think I will upload a few more drafts (maybe) until I've got the finished version.

Days Awake has a few meanings for me, all which seem to contradict each other. On one plane there is a great joy, music has really offered me a new lease on life, and Days Awake was the first time I realised I could actually write a song. But on the other hand, it hangs heavy on me. It's a reminder of how dark things really got, whether that was with the medication, chronic pain or manic depression, it's a time I'm often longing to forget. I didn’t expect people to be able to relate to the song, but suffering seems to be universal and everyone has got their story to tell.
