So what can you tell me about the circle then?

Over the past year as Peder Mannerfelt has shed the skin of The Subliminal Kid, we've only had small samples to taste of his new brand of musical sorcery. Lines Describing Circles changes all of that. Ten tracks deep, this is not so much an album as it is a declaration. From the opening, harrowing crackle of "Collapsion," Mannerfelt's intent is to crush the listener into a perfect, metal cube.

Lines Describing Circles, like the EP before it, is laser-focused. It's the sound of a man fully in control of his machines. Throughout the album, though, there are respites. The title track settles into a hypnotic groove while a simple, infectious melody repeats into the darkness. This is music you'll hear at a club after the end of the world. "In Place Of Once Was" has a melody lurking, too, but it's constantly overwhelmed by sub-bass nihilism. Mannerfelt presents the small bit of light as an illusion, knowing full well that by this point we're all wrecked.

This is heavy music, but not without purpose. As sequencers compete in unison on "Alpha Waves," there's a hint at the real meaning of Lines Describing Circles. Mannerfelt is searching for truth through electronic escapism and he's willing to take down anyone in his path to do it. "Gulo Gulo Caesitas" is the pinnacle of the firestorm. Cacaphonous beats pummel into submission while feedback and seemingly endless layers of aural mayhem rain down like sonic acid rain.

As the computerized voice repeats "Barren" over and over on "Evening Redness In The West," the end becomes a myth. There is no horizon left to long for. There is no blood left to bleed. Peder Mannerfelt's transformation complete, he is off to find new trails to blaze as the melancholic pads of "Rotterdam Anagram" are obscured by distorted filth. Everyone rejoice.

Bambi and Beatrice M. chose the plant Mint (mentha) for their mix. 🌿

Here’s some insight about why they chose their plant: 
Bambi and Beatrice M.’s musical palettes intersect in a very specific zone, with some key words like psychedelia and dub. This can apply to the club interface, but as the summer surfs by, their need for freshness and a soothing soundtrack for the season translates in this mix’s selections. Therefore the choice of plant felt pretty intuitive : mint. A plant that stimulates several senses at once : its vivid green evokes lushness and renewal, its scent is sharp, almost cleansing, and its taste - cool, tingling, slightly sweet - lingers like an echo… Just like their selections, mint stands at a sensory crossroads - refreshing the body, teasing the mind, and awakening something just beneath the surface. 𖧧

About Bambi & Beatrice M.

Beatrice M. and Bambi are two french DJs who met through intersecting music circles, which is what their duo is all about. Take a venn diagram with on one side, Bambi’s library ranging from deep techno to trance to house to triphop, and on the other side Beatrice M. with mainly dub and dubstep. The crossing point of the two circles is always somewhat a little dubby, a little psychedelic, sprinkled with friendship and fun.

welcome to the abstract sonic world of seoul-via-paris dj and producer k.o.p. 32. taking us a journey through the depths of the murky underworld, the hyper minimal session flips the switch between immersive, introspective sound design and grey area influences. 

drawing from his parisian roots and his current base in seoul, this diversity of influences lends itself to k.o.p. 32’s output. his productions lean towards meticulous drum grooves and textured atmospheres spanning across deep techno, halftime, drum & bass and freetek with releases across annulled, de rio, a-biotic, metaphore industrie, de rio and qilla records. i’m completely obsessed with his productions! they’re so deep and easy to get lost in. that feeling of being neither here nor there whilst you listen, away in another world. pyramid of knowledge is another alias of k.o.p. 32 and in 2021, he embarked on a new journey, launching his own label beyond the bridge which has released records from some of our other favourites including spekki webu and gi. well worth the dig through to get to know the world that k.o.p. 32 orbits in better as well as reading our interview below : )

“This is a picture I snapped on a recent hike (very close but lucky safe from the Altadena wildfire destruction zone). The tangly dense vines hugging around a grove of trees symbolize to me an ecosystem free from the stains of humankind. In this set, I imagined the sounds of before, during, and after the Anthropocene. This set was cathartic because, in the process of layering these sounds, I reflected on feelings of climate grief and solastalgia. I hope you are able to listen on a walk or somewhere quiet 🍃”

Mary Lake: a sonic adventurer. With an international upbringing in Algeria, France and The Netherlands, she seeks a voice through her music, translating inner dynamics in both club and exploratory settings.

In the world of Mary Lake, music comes under the medium of storytelling. Her signature is an ever-evolving and forward-thinking sound that pushes the boundaries of genre. Adding to her repertoire, she counts several releases, with her debut EP being released on Nous’Klaer.

Peder Mannerfelt splits the difference between playful immediacy and daring experimentation. You’re as likely to find him premiering a live show at Berlin’s Atonal festival as pulling apart fabled techno meccas from Berghain to Fabric with synapse-frying precision. One minute he’s being asked to remix Björk, and the next he’s dropping EPs of non-conformist techno for Karenn’s Voam label. 

As a prolific collaborator throughout his career, Mannerfelt has veered from the orchestral tension of Roll The Dice (with Malcolm Pardon) to the anything-goes maximalism of Aasthma (with Pär Grindvik). As a producer, he’s worked on every one of Fever Ray’s acclaimed albums and live shows, as well as projects from alt music heavyweights such as Smerz, Blonde Redhead and Glasser. His Peder Mannerfelt Produktions label has become another outlet for his singular approach, presenting his work alongside similarly experimental operators like Sissel Wincent, Machine Woman, Klara Lewis and Hodge. 

More recently, his PM+ series celebrates the immediacy of club-focused tracks, and Mannerfelt thrives on the energy and community of contemporary club music. What makes him different is his response to that energy, as he pushes the music’s possibilities in wild, unpredictable directions.
