As we celebrate our birthday this month, it seemed fitting to invite one of our beloved family members to kick off the first APECAST of 2022. 

Westy has stood as an Ape-X resident for just over 5 years now and has become a permanent fixture in the North-East dance community. We took a few minutes to chat with him about his early experiences of Ape-X, hip-house and what it means to be a resident DJ. Check it via our Instagram 

Over the last 5 years, we have watched the Durham-born talent develop his skills to conduct dance-floors and build atmospheres. Westy possesses an unteachable secret of DJing, which is the ability to inject his spirited personality behind the decks and project it onto any dancefloor. 

After picking up decks at the young age of 13, it explains how he has accumulated such a vast record collection. Taking influences from Afrobeat, hip hop, french house and Detroit techno, it’s sometimes hard to predict what Westy will spin. After supporting the likes of Anna Wall, Kornél Kovács, Mall Grab and Archie Hamilton. The young DJ stands as one of the finest in the North East.

Melbourne via London's Videosystem debuts on Streams of Thought with a new EP ‘System Start’. 

With the release taken influence from progressive techno, house and trance, we have the exclusive stream of ‘Pretty Sure The Noise Is Coming From In There’, an almost 7-minute shapeshifting journey. 

The Streams of Thought label arm was launched last year with a release from the founder Sloan. Before then, it existed as a party only, throwing events in Glasgow, London and Berlin, booking the likes of A Made Up Sound, Dr. Rubenstein, J-Zbel, Peverelist, and Shanti Celeste to name a few.

Twists are great - variety is truly the spice of life. Taking us ever so slightly off the beaten path and away from straight-line midweek monotony, Boorloo local Proc and Tape 88 deviates from classic acid house to jungle by way of rubber-band prog and echoes of dub techno.

There’s no obvious direction that Proc takes on “Plot Twist” and that’s a good thing. The mix sounds and feels instinctual, fun and flighty - pretension, chin scratching and dogmatic adherence to genre is disregarded while great tracks and personal enjoyment take centrestage. It’s all about the vibe, man.
