I’m BALAI, a techno artist from the Netherlands. My music is raw, hypnotic, and deeply emotive. Every track is a piece of my existence, a story told through sound.

My journey began in 1994, deep in the gabber and hardcore scene where pounding kicks and raw energy shaped who I am. Since then, I’ve grown alongside the evolving electronic music landscape. From the raw intensity of early rave culture to the golden era of techno and beyond. Over decades, I’ve ignited dancefloors with uncompromising power and honesty. Every track I produce is a reflection of my life. Moments of struggle, freedom, and truth woven into driving beats and hypnotic rhythms. My music is my voice, a vibration of my being.

I don’t follow trend, I’d rather build one. I have my own sound and I always push myself to experiment, to stay ahead of the curve while staying true to what I believe music should be: raw, real, timeless.

I believe in quality over quantity, depth over hype. I’m open, honest, and always ready to connect with other artists who share the same fire. My mission is simple but powerful: to create music that echoes through time. Tracks that outlive the moment and stay under your skin long after the lights go out.

Music has always been a passion for Richie Dio since the age of six, when he began his musical instrument training in piano, drums and percussion. Since then, his music performance has taken many forms over the years, from jazz groups, rock bands and orchestras to DJ'ing and music production. Since his first big DJ gigs at NYC's Tunnel and Limelight the 90s, Richie Dio has played at many mega-clubs and supported such acts as Todd Terry, Chus & Ceballos, Joeski, Oscar G, Harry Romero, Saliva Commandos, Jonathan Peters and others. His movement into music production was a natural outgrowth of his many years of musical training and DJ'ing, inspired further by his cousin, a Grammy-nominated songwriter and former American Idol Judge. The music comprising Richie Dio's productions incorporate driving drums and percussion, immersive melodies, chord progressions and arpeggios, and various vocal elements. Across several record labels, he has released multiple singles, EPs and remixes within the genres of House, Afro House, Tech House and Melodic House, with tracks on labels including Jackies Music, Kevin Saunderson's KMS Records, Sektor Rekords, Homewerx, Mavek Recordings and R-Trybe, a label formed by internationally-renown producers Huxley, Ramin Rezaie and Bakkis. Richie Dio's energetic vibe, infectious beats, immersive sounds and wide-range versatility have electrified dancefloors both locally and internationally and have inspired and garnered the growing attention of audiences and fellow artists.

Electronic Musician from the Chicagoland area combining elements of house, techno and synth pop in a blender and seeing what comes out the other end

Jo grew up in Herzogenrath, a town in Germany near the imperial city of Aachen, where he still lives and works.

He started DJing at parties while he was still at school. Despite the fact that it remained mostly private events, even here as a DJ he felt this energy that developed between him and the audience as he pushed the dancers on and on and thus gave them joy. And it was exactly this joy that you feel when you dance for hours through the night to house music that was the reason for him to start producing his own tracks.

In the middle of the 90s, he started to buy the necessary equipment to be able to make music himself. At that time, it was a Roland R8-MKII drum machine, a Korg DW-8000 synthesizer and an Atari 1040 STE. With the help of a borrowed 8-track mixer he was able to record his first and at that time only house track 'NYC' in 1996, but he never released it. 

Although he enjoys listening to music from other genres and certainly counts some of them among his influences, house music is the genre he feels most comfortable with. It's simply where he feels the most of that same energy and joy of life.

Jo is a big fan of the Roland TR-909 and loves it when the kick drum is slightly distorted. The whole thing paired with groovy arrangements of some other TR-909 sounds as well as various other percussion elements round off his beat. He also loves the sound of the Korg M1. Many of the classics from the 90s already used these sounds and for him they are simply timeless and contribute a lot to the above mentioned energy.

Having grown up with Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk in his childhood, there was a phase towards the end of his Sturm und Drang period, in the early 90s, with a focus on electronic body music. Musically, the band Nitzer Ebb set the tone for him during this phase. This period was seamlessly followed by a short acid techno phase, which then led to house music in the mid-90s, where he has located his musical home ever since.

In the second half of the 90s, Jo began his professional training, after which he started his career. From then on, he only played occasionally at private events, but did not produce any music of his own. It wasn't until 20 years later, in 2020, that he started again.
