This RTÉ Radio One music documentary recorded in Athens, Georgia and North Carolina in the US by Ken Sweeney takes the listener on that journey with R.E.M. out of Athens (Georgia). Without slick videos for the new MTV, or support from mainstream radio, R.E.M. built their following playing an alternative circuit of
gigs across America as evangelists for this new music. R.E.M. blazed a trail for every independent band to follow from Nirvana to Pearl Jam.

Hello everybody, it took a long time until we were emotionally able to record and release this song. It is dedicated to a very good friend and former band member, who unfortunately left this world much too early.

I didn´t thought that this would be the way I see you again. 
Me blind from tears and you in a chest, 
never known parents and friends. 
I´m bleeding on since two and half weeks, 
it seems there is no end in sight. 
Now they play your song, that makes everything worse, 
because  it´s beautiful and the sound is so bright.
Look everything is perfekt. 
Even the sun shines from a sky of blue. 
God it feels nearly like celebration, only we are missing you.
I leaned in the roses, I don´t felt the thorns, 
so I lost one drop blood down the way.
But the sun will be shining, there´s a smile on each face, 
when we all meet again, one day.
