In anticipation of the No Way Back 10 Year Anniversary - New York edition on November 4 (http://thebunkerny.com/events/2017-11-04-he-bunker-it-present-no-way-back-10-year-anniversary-new-york-edition), we asked our resident DJ @mikeservito to prepare a studio mix that summoned the spirit of NWB. He recorded this in one take at The Bunker HQ last week on a standard set up of 2xCDJ-2000, 2 Technics 1200 turntables, and a Rane MP2015 mixer.  Like No Way Back itself, this mix is a celebration of the lost art of the late night Midwestern DJ.

Occa­sion­al­ly, new DJs are thrust onto the glob­al club and fes­ti­val cir­cuit before they’re quite ready. It could be off the back of their pop­u­lar pro­duc­tions, or part­ly thanks to their con­tacts, or an engag­ing social media pres­ence. By the time Mike Servi­to reached the sta­tus of an ​‘inter­na­tion­al DJ’, he’d spent years earn­ing his stripes. 

Born and raised in Detroit, Servi­to expe­ri­enced the tech­no scene which is so dear­ly respect­ed, ref­er­enced and researched by ravers across the world. Mov­ing to NYC in the ​‘00s, he grad­u­al­ly built up a rep­u­ta­tion as a pas­sion­ate, ener­getic skil­ful DJ, and he became res­i­dent at Brook­lyn club­night The Bunker – a posi­tion he still holds to this day.

Five years ago, Res­i­dent Advi­sor referred to Mike Servi­to as one of Detroit and New York City’s ​“best kept secrets.” For some time now, the secret’s been out – Panora­ma Bar, Move­ment Detroit and Dek­man­tel are a few of the big gigs he’s ticked off the list. For The Face’s mix series, Servi­to has deliv­ered a pas­sion­ate blend of tech­no, house, elec­tro and acid that’ll con­jure up hazy mem­o­ries of the sweaty dance­floor expe­ri­ence from the com­fort of your home or desk.

For the 87th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome DJ Pocket Rock-it! @dj-pocketrock-it is from Portland, Oregon and a part of the queer DJ collective Bridge Club(@bridgeclubpdx). His love for house, disco, and techno come through in this hour long mix. Enjoy!

Honcho Podcast Series 87: DJ Pocket Rock-it

Eddie Reynolds aka Tr One is a DJ and producer based in Carlow, Ireland. A much-respected figure within Ireland’s fertile electronic music scene, Reynolds cites the likes of Dublin’s D1 Recordings, Kraftwerk and J Dilla as early influences. Equally inspired by vintage sounds from Chicago and Detroit, he started dabbling in production in the early 00s alongside fellow Irish producer, Dean Feeney. As Tr One the duo released their first EP, ‘Inner Thoughts’ via the much-respected Fine Art imprint back in 2007. An auspicious slice of deep, acid-led techno, the title track quickly introduced the duo to a whole new audience outside of their native land.

Fast-forward over a decade and although the project may now consist of Reynolds only, his dedication to all things house, techno and electro remains unwavering. A prolific producer, Reynolds’ sounds have led him to some of his country’s most-renowned labels, including Lunar Disko, Apartment, Bodytonic and Pogo. What’s more, his music has earned the respect of numerous high-profile names, and has been remixed by a stellar cast including Sonja Moonear, Lerosa and John Heckle.

From a DJ perspective, Reynolds has played in all of Dublin’s foremost nightspots including Twisted Pepper, Wigwam, Twitch Belfast and District 8. A DJ with a truly eclectic vision, this is represented in the names he has played alongside. From Juan Atkins to DJ Stingray to Helena Hauff, Dave Clarke, Surgeon, Maurice Fulton and Steffi, Reynolds is a DJ capable of stepping up under any occasion.

Reynolds’ latest endeavours have brought him to scene-shaping British label Don’t Be Afraid (where last year he released one of his most-cherished releases to date, the magnificent ‘A Month Has Passed’ EP), as well as Lunar Disko, where he collaborated again, this time alongside compatriot R Kitt on the no-less-emphatic sounds of LDRX7. With future releases in the pipeline for Lunar Disko as well as numerous others to follow, these are exciting times for one of Ireland’s most consistent electronic music producers.
