Moulding the laid back sounds I started listening to by mixing laid back house, downtempo, hip hop, soul and plain and simple incredible music into one cd. About the CD:
So the truth is we actually uploaded this by accident instead of Sasha's GU009 San Francisco disc... but as it got so many plays we thought it only fair to get it back up asap. The album cover, Space Ibiza sponsorship and epic Ibiza setting for the Global Underground series felt like it had come home when this release came out. The stars were aligned, everyone was buying it, and everyone was still mesmerised by Sasha's sound unlike any other dj in the world. It was magical, dreamy, dark and epic. Listening back to it makes you want to be 19 and on a plane to Ibiza... enjoy the mix. x

About the CD:
Wow, 3 disc's of (as the title suggests) absolute stone cold classics. This disc really was the soundtrack of my pre 'proper clubbing' days trying to get into the bars and clubs of Sunderland City Centre. This CD features some absolute bangers like Tony Di Bart's 'The Real Thing', Hard Drive's legendary 'Deep Inside', Felix's 'Don't You Want Me", Sub Sub's "Ain't No Love" and well... the list really does go on, and on, and on, and on. I hope you all enjoy this mix as many of us have. Play it LOUD!

About the CD:
For our 23rd episode we once again asked a friend of the site for their favourite all time CD. Andy Buchan is editor of Dubai's leading music and events publication, the fortnightly Infusion magazine. He's written for Mix Mag, DJ mag and Q magazine so he know's a thing or two about music. He's also one of the Dubai's best DJ's. Running his award winning alternative night Loaded and the famous dubstep and bass night SYNF amongst others. Andy has warmed up for anyone and everyone from 2ManyDJ's, to Norman Jay, Beardyman to Chase and Status and held down residencies at pretty much every quality venue in Dubai.

He originally picked Francios K's Choice disc... but as we just had a Choice disc from our last guest (We Luv's Ian Blevins) he also recommended Francios K's superb Essential Mix (Disc One). Which is a storming journey of starting with house and quickly moving into funk, disco, soul and everything in between. With from James Brown, Level 42, Maurizio, George Benson, Chaka Khan, Kyoto Jazz Massive to name a few... it's easy to see why Francios K has formed such legendary status with many of the finest selectors out there. If you love this mix... you're amongst very good company. Salute!

Derrick May is one of our main headliners at Rejected's Amsterdam Dance Event 2012 night at Studio 80, 18th of october.
Since my early dj days, I consider Derrick May as a huge inspiration, and in particular this dj set. Broadcasted live in 1996 from the legendary Chemistry night at Escape, Amsterdam. It was recorded from midnight radio by my partner in crime Edwin Oosterwal who borrowed me the cassette tape which I never gave back to him, which reminds me I should do that sometime soon.

In this mix, Derrick May shows us that in 1996 dance wasn't pigeonholed to one style or sound. He mixes Moodymann's groovy deephouse with Jeff Mills and Surgeon's raw techno. He goes from Donna Summer's disco to Tyree Cooper's jacking electronic funk, from Masters of Work's new york house to Ian Pooley's epic chord techno. All of this is mixed in a fast and skillful pace, a style that so clearly carries Derrick's signature.

There's some truly magical moments in this mix, how he get's out of Surgeon's 'Syllable' into Global Communication's 'Sensorama' at 1:09 leaves me speechless..

Even though by now I know most of the record he plays here, there's still a few I've been looking since the very first time I heard this mix. Would be great to get the tracklist completed, any help is greatly appreciated!

To celebrate our 700th CD. We've connected with an originator of the scene. John Acquaviva. Who introduces his mix with a look back at his early career and talks about the importance of the mix CD as an art form.

Here's a few words from John:
'It's a pleasure to come together with The Classic Mix CD Series to celebrate their 700th release that reflects and honors what for many is a lost art. That of the mix CD. Cutting my own teeth as a teenager before getting my nightclub gigs, i would make my  mix cassettes and hand them out to shops and friends.  Once I started to tour the world and as our seen grew i treated my mix cds as my album releases. for me these albums were a collage of other peoples works but newly interpreted though my mixing. The title BACK TO BASICS resonates with me as much today as it did around 2004 when techno was too hard, house was to easy and many artist re-energized by going back to the middle where it felt right. Not all the songs aged well, but listening to this brought me back to a wonderful time when it made sense to step back reflect and realize that sometimes, the best way to recalibrate is to get BACK TO BASICS, enjoy the mix'.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
