Mark Farina Recorded Live at Funky Tekno Tribes Paleolithic Tour at The Grand Olympic Auditorium in Downtown LA on November 11th 1995. The evening started with DJ Omar and Graeme as they turned it over to Donald Glaude for some funky breaks. Barry Weaver then hit the decks with a sick and dark @ss set! Dj Dan then got on the decks and put the funk back into the crowd as he handed it over to John Williams for some techno mastery... This is the closing set for the evening/morning as the fog came rolling in and Mark Farina put his records on the tables... A short but brilliant house set that is unforgettable! All vinyl on two turntables and a mixer... This was a legendary night and we can never thank the boys from TBC enough for the honor of recording such a great night of music... 

Our memories of the LA underground will live on as Digital History! Enjoy!!

Starting with a take on Green Velvet's 'The Answering Machine' (Featured on the seminal 'The Cosmic Disco - By Derrick Carter)... this mix is a recent collection of the electronic groovers I've been buying over the last 6 months whilst playing out a lot more regularly for both the Audio Tonic Agency and Leftbank, Souk Madinat here in Dubai. Deep and techy with warm baselines and chunky kicks throughout. I also made this mix a little longer to get show a little more of what I was feeling at the time. So if you want it to get your party rocking, be patient... good things come in time!

Sick Freak

Set the way back machine to 1998 and the mixtape that sums up an era for me. With the help of some close chums we put together this mixtape DIY style complete with graphic design work from Ray Nolan, photography by Tim Fromer, and the mix itself for which I put in quite a bit of work for those days. The Chicago underground was smashing it hard at that time and I lived in a massive loft with a crew of DJ's all pushing hard to break out into the touring circuit which we all did. And I believe this was the mix that put me on the radar in a lot of places I would eventually play. Tracks here from Blair, Derrick Carter, Constipated Monkeys, Eurythmics, Eddie Amador, and Hebert on the shortlist. Just like Shelter Nightclub in Chicago (which is where the photo was taken) those days are gone forever but the effects are everlasting. I even left the old A Side/B Side break in there! Hope you dig it.

Here's the first 1.5hrs of the set from Saturday.  Though mixing in a basement of a frat house in West Philly wasn't my initial idea of a good time, it soon turned from "Alright, let's just get through this..." to "Hot damn!  This is kind of jumping!".  Mixing in some new stuff, some classics and some of what I consider "DC Favs", I rather liked this session.  I hope that you do too.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
