Berlin's Boris Dolinski, the famed Ostgut Ton artist that has played Berghain more than ANY other DJ in the last 12 years, delivers this week's Global Vibe Radio mix.

Last May, 30D Records (@30drecords) offered its unique streaming showcase, recorded live in LAUT Barcelona. Traveling from Berlin for this special occasion, Boris offered one of his acclaimed sets, always unpredictable, inspiring, full of energy and plenty of unexpected tracks. On July 17th, Boris will release an exclusive cassette with 30D Records, an ambient mix limited to 25 copies

Boris' musical roots reach back to the mid-80s, when he lived in New York for four years where he absorbed the unique spirit of the seminal club Paradise Garage weekend after weekend. From the Club’s mentor Larry Levan, Boris learned to believe in his musical intuition as well as a broad musical spectrum, which nowadays ranges from Disco, Hi-NRG, Post-Punk, and (Kraut-) Rock to House and Techno, all of which Boris loves to throw into one set. „Music was most important for Levan. He was uncompromising and he knew how to convey it. That’s what I’m trying to achieve, too, when I’m djing.“

Many years later, Boris became a resident at Panorama Bar’s first incarnation in Berlin, where he was able to build a loyal following by playing long sets lasting until noon. „The crowd is always a lot more receptive to music at the end than at the beginning. That’s when I rather have the opportunity to present unusual stuff and that’s when I’m able to let my feelings run freely.“

After the old OstGut/Panorama Bar closed, Boris played in almost every club in Berlin, but when the follow-up club Berghain opened its doors in 2004, he quickly focused on playing out here again. From 2005 till 2010 he had another musical platform, as he was taking care of the label Careless Records as an A&R. As a DJ, he is not exactly keen on refining a certain genre, but rather pushing music with a certain twist.

Hey guys,

i am really proud to present a very new episode of the Global Grooves Radioshow. 
For this show i invited a really special artist. I just love what she is doing! 
Here some facts out of her BIO she is telling you:

"I dreamed of making music back in the 70s. At that time I was an absolute Hard Rock fan and I loved the
sound of Status Quo and AC/DC later on. I always wanted to play electric guitar and I kept bugging my
parents about it until they finally bought me a cheap Strat copy and a small amp in a departement store.
I was then the guitarist in our school band. We played the songs of our idols and partly our own. No one
new notes, everything by ear. We were well known in our town and had a great time.
Then in the 80s funk and soul music made me sit up and take notice. This driving groovy sound had done it
to me. I was by chance (in the early 80s) Djane in a small disco in our town and played the popular disco,
soul and funk hits of the 70s and 80s.
That was also the time when i first got in touch with sythesizers. We still had our band and one day we had
a keyboard player. He had a Yamaha synth that caught my attention. And then came the time of synth pop
with Depeche Mode, Human League, Duran Duran, just to name a few.
I don't remember exactly when I first came aware of techno music. Artists like Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Steve
Stoll, Richie Hawtin, K.Hand etc. flashed me with their minimalist sound. The sound of the drummachines
that was so incredibly on point and those blubbing basslines and never heard before sounds and
rhythms...outstanding! That's what I wanted to do.
But I always torn between Techno (Detroit, Minimal, Acid) and House music (Acid house, Chicage, New York,
Vocal, Minimal).
I put together a small setup with Atari computer, Steinberg Cubase, Roland D20, Juno 106, TR-707, Akai
S700 and various outboard, mixer and speakers. That's how it started with electronic music and ended in
1999. I sold everything, did nothing for 10 years. This was for family reasons.
In 2009 it started again, but only in the box. Propellerhead Reason, Ableton Live and so on.
That was fun, but I was always dissatisfied with the results.
I can't do arrangements, that's horror for me. I love to jam and with software and controllers I didn't enjoy
that.
So I bought hardware again. Elektrons, Volcas, Roland Airas and some more. But I wasn't happy with all the
great gear.
I knew that modular synths and eurorack existed, but never believed that this would be something for me.
And then it happened: I watched a YT video in which someone was doing techno music with his eurorack
system. I was blown away and immediately excited, but I didnt know how it worked.
I had no idea about the individual modules and their functions, because I didn't know how a synth is built,
not to mention synthesis.
So I first bought a case. This stood unused in the room for one year, because I didn't know with which
modules I shoul start.
After watching a lot of YT vids and tutorials, I've started with the construction of the system. And I could
make sounds, but they were far from techno ;)
It was a very long way and I paid a lot of dues. But with the eurorack system I have found my ideal
instrument."

KiNK:
Say what you wanna say, but you have to give Strahil Velchev this: the man’s a powerhouse. Recording and playing live under the KiNK alias, he went on to become one of the finest purveyor’s of funk in techno and house. What it is, by definition, ain’t exactly clear. And that is the beauty of it.

KiNK’s music is unifying in the best possible way. Channeling the spirit and feeling of a time where it didn’t really matter who the faces behind the music were, KiNK plays with the elements of genres and sub-genres as if the future of it all is still wide-open. At the same time it could be accused of retro-fetishism, as much as the Pope himself is infallible.

The pure need to recreate moments, feelings and experience – rather than carbon copies of existing designs – was what started KiNK’s production work. Hailing from Bulgaria, it was nearly impossible to get your hands on all the records and music that fed into a system of raves, clubs and record shops that seemed far away from Sofia, and financially it might as well have meant another galaxy. Wanting to DJ without having access to the tracks that spun the carousel meant that you had to create them yourselves. So, here we go with a private bootlegger gone public mastermind and one of the loudest voices in house, techno and beyond.

From KiNK’s early productions with Neville Watson to his smash-hit for Ovum, a cerebral album for Macro, tons of remixes & tracks and his mind-bending live act, Playground seems to take all that into a blender. Simultaneously a sound- summary, the harvest of a field of ideas, and the exhibition of an artist in his prime, it also works as a sort of KiNK dictionary: avant-garde soundscapes stand next to boisterous bangers, classic club tracks and peak time emotions find their idiosyncratic and contemplative counterparts – all of it coming down like a torrent in a drought.

Raredub:
Raredub is a Sofia-based music producer and DJ. Known for his high-octane energy, he infuses every set with a distinctive and dynamic vibe, regardless of when he plays.

Drawing inspiration from the early ’90s rave culture, Raredub puts a unique spin on his tracks. His music pulsates with raw beats and cutting-edge grooves, making a signature and bold statement.

In 2021, he dropped his first EP on KiNK’s Sofia Records, stepping onto the global music scene. His work has gained recognition by artists like Paul Woolford, Fjaak, Paggy Gou, Partiboi69, Skin On Skin, just to name a few.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
