An absolutely epic house CD released in 1996 by the fine folks at MOS. This one was actually a swap with a certain ginger friend for something else (hope he doesn't ask for it back) although it was swapped for something good so maybe it's not a bad thing. This Frankie Knuckles mix features some incredible tracks including all time favourites Ken Lou - The Bounce, Lil Mo Yin Yang - Reach, X Press 2 - The Sound and many many more. It is indeed, a banger.

About this CD:
I first discovered what Lazy Dog was all about when tuning into one of Danny Rampling's many Love Groove Dance Party saturday night shows on Radio 1. The deep sounding, sexier and feel good vibes got me interested and I always remember having it taped to cassette on my train trip down to live in London in 2001. When I arrived, I picked up the double disc from a Virgin Megastore on Kings Road and it's soundtrack went onto be the anthem of my year.

007 - Lazy Dog mixed by Jay Hannah - Disc 2 (2000)

Disorient, the Haj and Psyclone were my bases for Burning Man 2013, and here's the soundtrack, minus a few crackles, cackles and distant explosions. True to Journeyman's Balearic inclinations, a selection of stand-out chewns with a range of influences and a rich vein of F-U-N-K running through the middle. Party starter for the young'uns, more like peak time gear for the rest of us. Stay in there, it builds to the end. And check the first comment for download link. For fun I made a new track using the amazing funky and catchy melody from Can't Stop Playing (2005) by Dr Kucho! & Gregor Salto and played it in my sets. It got such great responses and Spinnin' Records also loved it! Later I finished it with @GregorSalto himself and now it will be released 29th of august on @SpinninRecords :)

This was inspired by a recent trip to Costa Rica's Osa Peninsular, where we partied c/o the infinite generosity of our good friend Caractacus D Wildefunk. As the new year's sun rose over the jungle and howler monkeys hooted from the surrounding canopy, we rummaged through the crates for some ripe 2012 deep house fruit. In Senor D's front lawn stands a fine Mata Palo fig, called 'tree killer' because it destroys the host palm that it grows up around. As well as providing Central American artists with an endless supply of sexual imagery, it seems a fit metaphor for a nice long mix, as the extending sonic fronds insinuate and entwine the stem of the groove and one track swallows up another. Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
