A series of new mixes from The Classic Mix CD Series. _SESSIONS brings you choice cuts from our friends, family and maybe a few special guests along the way. Sharing our own personal take on dj mixes which we've grown up listening to, and sometimes doing ourselves. More often than not, these mixes aim to contemporary selection of our favourite tracks both old and new.

I recorded a brand new mix for you all. 150 Minutes of fresh house, deep house, soulful house, classic house, disco and what not. 

As you might have noticed, I have not deejayed for quite some time. I took some time off, since Nov 19. But now, I am back, back riding that saddle again, and that felt good. 

Special thanks to DJ I.M.X. for letting me do my thing in his home studio, right here in Singapore.

The first in a series of new mixes from The Classic Mix CD Series...  _SESSIONS brings you choice cuts from our friends, family and maybe a few special guests along the way. For the third instalment of the new _SESSIONS series we invited old friend Eddie Leader from Hudd Traxx for what is a mix of the highest house calibre. We originally met in the early 2000s in our student years, djing at our local party and since then Eddie has gone on to run a successful label, Hudd Traxx for over 12 years now and dj all around the world.

The label has received worldwide support from DJ's like Luciano, Loco Dice, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Josh Wink & more. Hudd Traxx music has been licensed to various compilations including Ministry Of Sound, Fabric & OM. If that's not house music royalty we don't know what is.

SESSIONS_04 comes from friend of the show, Antony Daly aka 586 of the most excellent 586 Records in Newcastle, England. We've actually had this on the iPod for years but Tony has very kindly offered it up again for a re-airing. It really it quite seminal stuff. Be sure to call into 586 Records when you're in town and here's a few words from the man himself...

'Recorded, late into the Night, January 2003. A live, one hit mix via Suade's Studio in Sandyford, Newcastle upon Tyne. A personal soundtrack to a difficult time in my life. Poor health and unrequited love. Hopefully, the lyrics in these great songs and the overall mood of the mix, reflect that. Enjoy and thanks for listening'.

For the 5th instalment, we hooked up with Dubai's number one hat wearing, vinyl addict... Shadi Megallaa. He's got links to some of the city's finest musical happenings, such as the immensely good Analog Room (which is nothing short of a Dubai institution) and also runs the Ark to Ashes label. This mix called... 'Less is More' is over 15 years old, yet remains one of his favourite personal selections. We agree, it's exceptional. Many thanks fella!

Some words from Shadi:
'Less is More is my 2nd proper mix from back in the early 2000s. The 1st one being a mix called Impulse. It was recorded on a Philips CDR 775 Recorder. Back in those days there were no daws or digital recording. The mix was recorded in real time on a cd. One mistake & you had to throw away the cd and start all over.  I guess you can feel that tension in the mix & hence why it still sounds good almost 15 years later. Hope you enjoy it.'

Rick Preston - Live at 20 Years of Viva Recordings

Great to finally get some music in from Rick Prior, a fellow north east England lad, hailing from the mighty Darlington. Rick and I share a lot of the same friends and many of the same musical influences. This mix reflects that, maximum house music, disco and feel good vibes that manages to feel completely fresh, but laced with a classic sounds accessible to everyone. Creating a sound defines the dance floor in Barbary, one which everyone can enjoy regardless if you're a die hard or just there to have a good time.

Here's a few words from Rick:
"This mix is a great interpretation of how we do thing at Barbary (Dubai) every weekend. I’ve been a resident there for 2 years and shared the controls with the likes of Dimitri from Paris and DJ Spinna, to the amazing residents we have which any club in the world would be proud of. We do things a little differently than the ‘usual’ Dubai Party and I can safely say that supplying the music there has been one of my favourite gigs to date. Leave your egos at the door, come give us a visit and enjoy the vibe. Enjoy the mix! Cheers, Rick."

#StayHomeDisco with Redux: Love Freedom Synchronicity

A true vibe master, Robbie Lowe’s love for playing timeless records remains as strong as the day he first jumped on the turntables at a house party back in 1993. With a reputation as ‘the nicest guy in Australian dance music,’ Robbie’s affable nature coupled with an innate sense of how to move a dance floor has seen him endure as one of the country’s most respected and in-demand DJs.

A rising star throughout the early 2000s at iconic Sydney parties like Sweetchilli and Sounds on Sunday, Robbie’s impeccable taste, technical ability, and adept programming secured him as a crowd favorite. With a style indebted to progressive house, the genre’s ethos remains at the foundation of his signature sound, whether he’s dropping sun-drenched deep house, melodic late-night tech, or early morning chug.

From the legendary early morning Spice Cellar sets and ‘all night long’ marathons at Civic Underground and S.A.S.H, to rocking the Electric Gardens Festival main stage after Armand Van Helden, Robbie’s accolades are many. He has warmed up floors for some of the biggest names in the business and in 2019 was personally selected by Sasha and John Digweed as warm-up DJ for their first Australian shows together in 13 years. Across the seas, he has played and toured regularly in the USA, UK, China, Indonesia, and Fiji.

In the mix series realm, Robbie has contributed to the esteemed Balance podcast, John Digweed’s Transitions radio show and released a compilation on the revered Ministry Of Sound label. He has also produced a handful of celebrated EPs, including collaborations with fellow Sydneysider Matt Rowan. Their latest release, ‘Luminary’, drops in June 2020.

Unfazed by his standing in the scene, Robbie continues to hone his craft with a humble and quiet determination. You can tell by the perpetual smile planted across his face – he’s just a guy that loves to play music. It’s as simple as that.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
