New episode... 026. This CD is from Tyrant aka Craig Richards, Lee Burridge (& occasionally Sasha). The disc was released in the year 2002 on via Fabric and holds special memories for the 40 of us on the bus heading down to The Bomb in Nottingham each month, a tiny basement club with white walls, low ceilings and just a red and blue strobe light (if I remember correctly). At the time... this party was without doubt the one to be at in the country and arguably the world. The trio created a dubby, sexy sound which went onto create some of the most respected underground dj careers in the world. Awesome music and great times indeed.

@RalphLawson from @2020Vision made his Sub Club debut on the very same night as a young Glaswegian DJ called Domenic Cappello in 1992.  He has since been a regular guest over the years while Domenic went on to become the resident DJ for Subculture. It seems fitting that both 2020Vision and Subculture celebrate 20 years in the game in 2014 as they have both stuck to their guns and consistently provided people with sounds from the underground over those years. 

This mix was recorded the week before 2020Vision brought their Content tour to Subculture on October 4th with Lawson and Ejeca taking over the controls. Lawson dives into his memories of times spent in The Subbie over those years and pulls out a selection of bona fide classics that have rocked the club. Recorded in one take to get a live feel. One of the hottest residencies in dance music during the late 90's was the Josh Wink and King Britt's seminal party entitled "The Womb" at Fluid Nightclub. The night started as an outlet for the Ovum co-founders as a residency on the last Wednesday of each month where they could play for they local fanbase an intimate setting as most weekends had them on the road.  Over time the duo invited friends to join them and it became "the party" you had to play whether you were a US artist or someone coming in from abroad. During the residency the likes of Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, DJ Sneak, and of course our brother Doc Martin joined the dynamic duo. We are happy to share with you this special evening from June of 1997 and Wink, Britt, and Doc took the Philly faithful on epic journey. Kick back and enjoy and please stay safe!

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

Hey, Gareth here, I'm a graphic designer who start designing for clubs, parties, and labels in the late 90s. Back then, mix CDs were the holy grail of both design and music. I loved them.

But I wasn't the only one, mix cds were the soundtracks of our nights, our days, our afterparties and lives, for everyone. Yet in today's internet age, the art form has been lost (or just changed) to 2-3 hour online mixes and streaming videos, which just don't create the same magic your CD collection did. Just 60 minutes of music and incredible artwork.

The Classic Mix CD Series celebrates these discs, their soundtrack, their box art and your memories. We hope you enjoy it.
