It's a wondrous life. Yesterday I listened to Michael Singer: "it's not about finding truth. It's about releasing ignorance". About letting go.

Relax and release. Try to feel into what your body requires, each moment. To meditate? To go for a run? To tap? To talk to someone? To experience nature? To read? To write? To compose? To sleep?

This is the most complex, but also maybe the most self-sufficient phase I've experienced so far, in this weird little life. Once my anxiety subsides, life brims. Even when that fear is still active, life keeps rolling – it's just that it becomes harder for me to notice it.

As Galya asked: me earlier this year: "if that fear would never go away, would you still love all of it?"

Natasha Moreno  [ sama recordings, BLR / AT ] 

Between 2023 and 2024 Natasha Moreno has already released 2 EPs and one album – all self published on her bandcamp page. On her first release „Unaware“ with viennese label Sama Recordings her interest in exploring psychoacoustic effects of repetition continues. Starting with analog feedback loops, she mainly uses acoustic instruments (guitar & piano), modular synthesizer (Buchla Easel Command), and vocals to create a homogenous sound. By enriching her compositions with personal narratives, Natasha is able to transform everyday memories into powerful sonic experiences.

With his moniker A_Phan, Manuel Cyrill shifts his focus to the outer reaches of techno.
Modulation sources, tape loops, and field recordings become anchor points in his sonified alpine
mountain wall, situated at the borders between syncopated rhythms and intricate sound
structures. A_Phan never sounds detached, but always remains grounded. The element of
chance that lends patronage to improvisation is the essence of a counter-movement that neither
predicts nor attempts to calculate the listeners. It's an altruistic approach that A_Phan reveals,
whispering through modulated tension: "Let yourself fall!".

Welia [ sama recordings, AT ] 

Welia is an integral part of Viennas dj scene since almost a decade and hosts her own bi-monthly show on Malmö based Retreat Radio. On her 2023 solo debut EP Vienna-based artist Alexandra Anthea alias Welia presented a wide range of stylistic infuences ranging from ambient to breakbeat, UK bass and techno. Her sound cosmos is carried by metallic sounds and synthesizers, unexpected drum patterns and heavily manipulated vocal fragments, which she records herself and elaborately enriches with FX layers. Behind the decks she shows an innate sensitivity towards selecting and combining various directions in and beyond electronic music. Her closing set at „sama recordings pres. s c h w e b e n“ at celeste last December has engraved vital memories in many tanzbearish hearts.

Luca Carlotta  [ DE ] 

Luca Carlotta is a DJ and a producer of various styles in experimental music. In his sets he recently has been intrigued by genres such as digi-dub, synth pop, cosmic, rather ethereal, sometimes odd approaches to dance and non-dance music. It's a joy for him to be playful in his approach to music and appreciate breaks and unexpected mood changes. Based in Vienna, he is involved in the community project Bestand, co-organizes a new event series called non sai together with hiff, and has played radio shows on NTS, Radio 80000, Noods Radio, Vlan Radio and others.

Renowned Vienna-based keyboardist and producer Philipp Quehenberger is known for his improvisational approach to electronic music. With a history of notable releases on respected labels like Cheap Records and Editions Mego and his energetic live sets, Quehenberger has built a reputation for a distinctive sound.

His latest release, the vinyl EP "Hot Water", comes as the inaugural offering from the newly established label “other machines”.

Opening with “Emortal” a slowed down four on the floor beat is acompanied by a heavy bassriff and wobbly psychedelic synthlines, the record picks up speed but maintains its dark but catchy vibe with the house -like "Heaven" featuring  strings and another wallshaking  bassline.

The B-side starts off with "Trytrance", combining filtered melodic fragments with an acid infused synth bassline and a wonky but speedy disco beat. The title track "Hot Water" that sounds like from the inside of a steamroller, and the final track "Thirty Three" each escalate tempo and intensity into a pulsating wall of sound.

Quehenberger's improvisational ethos shines throughout the EP, allowing for spontaneity and exploration while maintaining a cohesive sonic narrative, mirroring his live performance style, where moments of unpredictability often lead to surprising revelations.
