Mana is a song of many levels – how do you live when you can’t get access to the ‘pillness’ you need to survive, how do you live when you’re physically bound by a broken body, how do you celebrate life from the armchair out on the porch. Mana is a song for the people who can’t get away from their lives and need to use imagination as their vehicle of adventure.  Looking at ourselves looking out from behind our windows and making sure we don’t wish it all away in our haste to get through each day … when the only mandate is to take the pills that provide the life we hold on tightly too

2021 is set to be an exceptional year for Perth veterans The Date.  Not only are they on course to release their sixth album Mandate, they will do so unveiling one track per month, leaving no idle time throughout the year.  Questioning, probing, illuminating and honest, mandate continues The Date's ethos of looking at the ways of individuals and their connections to each other and the people who lead them.  As they always have been, The Date remain a band that writes what they see and above all, what they feel.
 
Writing as a two-piece and recording as a three-piece, The Date have produced Mandate between their own Dating 42 Studios and Hammerspace Studios with engineer Troy Nababan... and the results speak for themselves. Lead single Manage is strident but elegant, wrapping sleek guitar runs, courtesy of Rob Susanto around the distinctive voice of David Moran, as it crescendos with a call to the people to review themselves and their leaders  and make sure they’re getting what they pay for.

After spending 2019 releasing their fourth album Premedidated and 2020 releasing their fifth album Dating, one track every month, the band are working to deliver this year’s album with another set of 12 songs again released on the last day of each month of 2021.

On their first single from Manage, Moran elaborates, “As the people of the world start to look harder at the leadership within their governments and how they deliver the basic necessities of health, housing, employment and safety, more often than not those in power are found wanting. When a change in leadership doesn’t create the change needed for the people, what do they do and how do they go about reinstating their rights and are those rights even accepted by those who represent them.  Manage is the first release from our 2021 album Mandate and it begins a yearlong look at how the world is being managed and how individuals are managing themselves.”

As one of Perth's most enduring bands that writes for itself but plays for its fans, each month The Date will present the fruit of their hard work until Mandate is fully realised.
