Passage

I was working on a new track and was 90% finished with the composition and 40% done with the mixing. I was having problems writing the ending and had not managed to advance the composition for 4 or 5 days. I hate it when that happens. I decided to leave it for a while and have a play with Reaktor with the intention of having some fun.

This track materialised very quickly indeed. This took me a total of 6 or 7 hours work over 4 evenings (including the mixing and mastering). Unprecedented productivity by my snail-like standards. I love it when that happens.

A rework of "In Light of Darkness", a track that I made a year ago...since then I received a lot of good inputs and tried to incorporate all of them and give another shot at the track. The aim is to have more effects, change the sound of the beats, and give more pump to the bass. I didn't do anything on the MIDI and VSTs. 

Comment on the original In Light of Darkness on CM Magazine 136, Listening Lounge:

"It's flawed, but this is a great piece of techno that builds and builds. It starts out like a William Orbit track, with ambient pads and sequences, before the beat comes in. The big crashes are a bit naff, but the main problem is the rhythm track. The beat gets lost in the melee - it needs to be tougher, punchier, and brighter to cut through. The long tail of the kick is clouding the bass, which is confusing. Shortening the kick, giving it a brighter attack and using compression, should sort it out. The bass sound is probably pretty good as it is, but it needs to be heard above the kick."
